Hey DL!

Just wondering what we'd all like to see during the JLT?

For mine:

-Fritch and Weidermann having a solid crack up forward

-Trac, Bugg, Jones, Oliver and ANB in the middle (pre-Geelong setups)

-GNinja and Petty roaming on half forward

Thoughts?

Seeing how Keilty looks, and maybe a decent run for Tim Smith.

That's about it for me too, OD.  Players will be rotated, we'll look rusty and pretty good in patches and the results are meaningless.  If we can get some run into the players and minimise any injuries then that's a big win for me.

Yeah good points, Keilty is another I forgot we had, might be a good look. But agree, don't need to see wins (per se) but just some game time, the younger fellas feeling the pace and the bigger bodies and as you quite rightly said - no bloody injuries!

I'd like to see some positives come out of the JLT personally.

When you say defensive skill did you mean forward pressure (lock it in) type skills?

Yep.

Remember reading about D.J when he was drafted, and the hype was all about his defensive pressure.

If he applies the pressure I read about, and Spargo is the "fierce competitor" people say he is,  they could be very useful additions to the team, as we have lacked manic defensive pressure in our forward half for quite some time.

If he were to pull through, that would send a message to Geelong for Rd 1, but if not, we might be tagged as heavy underdogs. Because I'm flying down to Melbourne for that Rd 1 clash, I want to give Viney every chance of success - so cotton wool for me during JLT..

New players, bigger bodies, altered game plan......HOPE.....

For the last two or three years, we've put we've played with a fairly strong side during the JLT. Rather than give the new kids a taste or experiment too much, we seem to go with our best 26 and start to fine tune. I expect the same - much as I'd like to see what the draftees are capable of.

I don't really expect to see anyone who isn't cherry ripe with a full preseason, so I'm not expecting to see Weids, Spargo, Tim Smith, McKenna, Joel Smith or anyone who's been in the rehab group for an extended period. Of the rehab group I'd only expect to see Kent, Jones (both back in full training) and, maybe at the last minute, Viney.

Love to see anyone that's ready and new to the club but don't think it will really happen - maybe Fritsch and/or Keilty

They are the sponsors of the preseason comp. I doubt too many of us would have a clue who they actually are. 

It's a bit like AHG - very had to pack a punch with a bunch of nothing letters (with a few exceptions like... AFL)

...To play our "bottom 22" players, so that our "top 22" play 3 games less during the year, and win matches toward the end, instead of hitting the wall again when it counts.....

With only two JLT games I wouldn't expect too much in terms of experimenting either. 

Like you stated, I expect a strong 26 or thereabouts to get ready for the season proper. 

Last year in the opening JLT game we went with Spencer as starting ruck and Gawn up forward and created some headaches for the Dogs defence. 

I wouldn't mind seeing a similar set-up with King getting some time in the ruck.

two games only will be interesting.

Traditionally teams go light on round one and end with best 22 by round 3. With two games .. who knows

The dreaded intra club may now be regarded as the old round 1...(I say dreaded because of its past injury history)

I think pretty much the whole list of healthy players will play some part in the AFLX, but I hope it's mainly the fringe and young players. Maybe one or two games of the round robin for the best 10 or so players.

Pick the best side of healthy players for the first practice match but pull the best 6 at half time.

Pick as close to a full strength squad for the final practice match.

Use the VFL practice games to give a lot of guys a run there.

Can we get excited yet?!?!  Im already there

With only 2 hit outs before round 1 I would expect the best and fittest ~29 to play.
