 I'm not interested in a slanging match but suggesting goodw8n might resign is just plain silly. Defending that idea even sillier.

So the best NRL team does bootcamps and the best AFL team sends all young players up Kokoda.

Otherwise it isn't really fair to compare to overseas leagues and sports.

NFL teams only get access to their players in minimal preseason time so they pretty much have to spend it all learning the play book.

Soccer have huge seasons packed with games and it's a skill and athleticism based sport. I'm not trying to start code wars and say soccer players are soft but the game itself has far less physical contact. You can't send a team out to physically intimidate the opposition either, you'll end up with 8 men on the field.

The AFL is the pinnacle sporting league for physical and mental demands in that it requires endurance, strength and speed combined with skills all performed under the threat of physical danger and as a team. Whether it's bootcamp methods or otherwise I think part of preseason surely has to involve stressing the team as close to breaking point and having them work through it together. How can a team excel on match day under severe stress if they've never trained for it?

We should have won the flag last year we are the only one's who did the camp last year, and only the hawks send up there first to 2 nd year players to kokoda, were did they come this year, not the best anymore, their flag was 3 seasons ago, no other club does this camp it has no value what so ever, the players are all going to the camp up north, which will be hard enough, by the sounds of it, it was only a few young players if it were the leadership group going to the alfpa then there is a problem, Richmond did no boot camp and won the flag, they mostly got in touch with their feelings, that was seen as soft Once Upon a Time.

You don't get sacked for going to the Union, and if they do as long  you have been there for more then 6 months, thats unfair dismissal, sometimes you have to go to the Union before the boss, who can represent you better than you can, if we make finals it will be nothing to do with a boot camp. Let's end this stupidity. Wait and see if we don't do well, than the told you so's will beat their chest and be happy in the their  misery.

He’s basically saying this will be regurgitated as the reason we didn’t make finals if that eventuates (not injuries etc). Graham Cornes said exactly this on the radio yesterday in support of the argument.

The number of posts has nothing to do with it - seems you’re getting a little defensive there. I’m saying the fact that you make a general, sweeping statement that you know for a fact that the coach is far from happy, holds little water... so maybe if you could provide a little more, that would at least give it some credence.

What seems odd is that apparently the camp was 'scheduled' for some time, but it was only late in the picture that some players decided that they did not want to go. Quite poor judgement from the players given the organisation that is required and all the work that would have gone into preparing for the camp to pull the pin so late when there was plenty of opportunity earlier to raise any issues.

Doesn't paint a good picture of the communication and leadership structure at the club, both between the players and coaches/administration but also the players and leadership group, given that both seem to have been bypassed by some of the players directly to the AFL players association...

Goody has already come out and addressed the issue. He's happy with where things are at and is already happily moved on. I'm he's put it back on the players now, it' up to them to show if they can do it on field.

The camp is irrelevant.

The issue is the players going to the AFLPA instead of speaking to the coaches and administration directly.

Admittedly I haven’t read everything written on this topic, but is it public knowledge that the players involved definitely went to the AFLPA without trying other avenues first? Is it possible that they were left with no other option?

Even without getting the info i got, i would of been very surprised if people didnt get the nose out of joint the way all this panned out. In the end, like most topics on here, you just have to take it all with a grain of salt and make your own mind up. Im only trying to share some info with you because i know that you love this club as much as i do even when we get kicked in the gutsfrom time to time. P.s. i only meant SWYL was there abouts on this topic. Sorry if i affended anyone.

I personally don’t care what perception outsiders have of our club......they know very little of the “in’s & outs” of MFC & so jump on the drivel that’s spewed out by media desperate for a headline.  I mentioned this before...(.it seems such a long time ago) ....Christian Salem said it was an absolute beat up by the media and that if the coaches had wanted them to do the camp...they would have done it.....they were all on the same page!!!!  (I asked him the question & he answered it unequivocally)  It is such a non-issue so let’s all move on

I mean i don't doubt your intel that there was a good deal of angst around this whole issue but how would it look to potential AFL employers if he quit at the first sign of trouble and left a club that he is contracted to? His currency would be zero and rightfully so. Sheesh.
