Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melbourne player investigated over alleged assault whilst overseas

Looks like no charges will be laid

It didn't happen in Australia, ergo Australian Police can only assist the investigating jurisdiction, that being Indonesia.  If charges are to be laid they must be done by the Indonesian Police who would then seek to extradite the alleged offender.  I'd suggest there's next to no chance of that happening.

Couple of points. (some already noted).

There was an incident in Indonesia according to the claimant and now acknowledged by the MFC. So far unsubstantiated in law and fact. This is the salient point. The media might be all over it but it doesn't matter a whit.

It occurred outside any jurisdictional aegis of any Australian authority. Tell the Victorian police all you want, true or not. It doesn't matter. The claimant can pursue absolutely nothing unless a complaint is lodged with the Indonesian police. Evidence will be required, hard evidence and believe me the Indonesians are used to dealing with this particularly in Bali.

It's a serious allegation and not what we need on our (for me brief )holiday break.

I will welcome due process but hanging anyone out to dry at this stage is  way off the mark.

I think it's too early for these sentiments.

I'd at least want to know the allegations, circumstances, etc.

My sympathy will be determined by the facts.  Right now it may, or may not be warranted.

While I can understand your view. The only fact I need to know is a girl has come forward that she believes she has been sexually assaulted.

You don't need to have sympathy, although maybe try some empathy. What would she be feeling? What would she be going through. I'm not saying any player is guilty or not guilty. Just that this person feels she has been violated. That is fact.

You don't know what she "believes".  All you know is what she's reported.

That's fact.

That is correct. Just ponder this question... under what circumstances would you or any person for that matter go and make a report of such things? To put your own name out there under such circumstances requires courage. There is nothing good that comes for the girl to report this and have the media attention. None whatsoever.

That is why I take her word immediately and place more weight on it than presuming the innocence of a footy player.

again, personal opinion only. And everyone is entitled to their view.

But there is such a thing as a vexatious complaint.  So it is not yet 'a fact' that she feels violated.   She may well be, she may not.  Assign probabilities as you wish.  But we have no fact at this stage.  I know in the Trump era facts can be fluid, but let's stick to using the word in its original meaning.

As I said, assign probabilities as you wish (and I'd lean heavily in your direction personally).  But if someone is making a vexatious complaint then while what I've bolded above may well be true in the long run, the complainant may not have realised that yet.  So it proves nothing about the facts.

I don't think it would be from within the integrity unit. The AFL could do without this story.

I suggested the Integrity Unit/AFL as Peter Ryan (The Age) broke the story.  Until April 2017 he was an AFL staff reporter.  Of the 5 possible leak options, for me the AFL is the most likely the culprit.

Maybe Ryan knew for a while and kept it quiet, maybe he picked it up at a Christmas party.  But it came from one of his sources.

You can presume all you like.  And I won't guess motives.

I'll wait for facts.

It's called the law.  Try it some time.

The AFL might investigate if a complain is made to them but surely shouldn't get involved until legal avenues are pursued.

You haven't been watching the AFL for the last, say, 10 years.

The AFL mission statement is "Get involved!"

Do you think either party should stop to "ponder" questions? Or even us?

Given the clear lack of information and that media are pulling and pushing stories, let's not assume too much.

I'm not going to be as black and white as prodee, because as we all know, the law is an ass and far from perfect (sorry Jack and Redleg) , but it's not our place to take sides with very, very little detail known.

I don't normally like commenting on these situations until more is known, mainly because only suffering will result, but let's wait to hear more before tipping the scales, hey.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
