The tail has been wagging the dog here since the back end of Daniher's time...and not only has it got is nowhere but along the way the tail has disgraced the club.

I remember talking to one of Goodwins friends just after he was appointed...they told me he was one of the most passionate and determined people in the industry...i told them he doesn't know what he's getting himself into with this club. How can you be successful as a coach at a club that doesn't want to get its hands dirty?

Every other club come out and boast how physically tough their training and fitness regimes are. WTF is going on? Looking at you leadership group and captains.

They didn't boycott 'Lucifer', they were asked and gave their opinion.

It's good the FD are listening.

The problem is you can't hand over a bunch of highly trained and well payed professional footballers to a bunch of nut jobs are not qualified to train highly tuned athletes...it was a dumb idea last year and not well handled, it might be handled better this year but still a dumb idea.

We were lucky we didn't get more injuries last year.

Does that suggest players had tried to negotiate with the club and failed so took an official grievance to the 'Union'. 

Should have been sorted without players going to the 'Union'.

It might explain why it was cancelled so late but for mine, makes the situation look even worse.

It's such a non-issue.  Seriously.

The players saw it coming up and were worried about things going pear-shaped as they did last year.  They didn't want to ruffle any feathers, so they went to the AFLPA so find out the best course of action.  They went through the right channels and the club called it off.

Imagine if they hadn't listened and forced them to go.  THAT would have been far worse.  

The players aren't complaining about anything to do with their training loads, tactics, positioning etc.  They just didn't want to do a boot camp that they clearly saw no benefit in.  That's fair enough in my opinion.

I'm completely of the opposite view.

Our coaches decided that there was a benefit to be gained from the players doing the camp.

The players didn't like the idea, so sought advice from the union on how to go about getting it canned. To me the chain of command is not the relevant issue, its the fact the players weaselled  their way out of a training camp.

Our player leadership has not improved one iota it seems.

Not surprised at all, normal behaviour from the underachievers that represent the club, just referring back to Mark Neeld who tried to turn them into a hard club, it is what it is, going nowhere for 50 years, and It continues without respite.

I'd say we are a maturing team which collectively now has a more acute idea of where they are and what it will take to improve next year. As if they don't talk to each other all the time. They don't always need a whack from the headmaster. I see it as a positive. They're taking some responsibility and initiative. They're not slacking off. Quite the opposite.

That surprises me a little.

The players are the ones doing the training - if a large chunk of them felt the boot camp was unnecessary, then it's unnecessary.  

I'll say it again - it's not as if they are changing training, not turning up for something etc.  They just felt that, for their benefit for the season ahead, the boot camp wasn't a worthwhile thing to do.  

It's a total non issue.

If the players felt the need to run off to the AFLPA instead of speaking to the coaches directly then I feel there are problems. I think it’s rather pathetic.

Military boot camp didn't help last year when we still weren't mentally strong enough to win when it really mattered....get on with footy and forget this psychological garbage they're training to be elite footballers, not take down ISIS

This is like a Warnie delivery - spin it left, spin it right - still gets the crowd up in arms!  One side can say something like the inmates are running the asylum, and the coaching group have lost control.  The other side can say that we have a maturing bunch of footballers who felt seriously enough about the program and its lack of benefits that they went to the club to raise their concerns.  The AFLPA could have given them guidance in how to do this.

Which is right?  Who knows.  I would prefer them to do sports specific training that they buy into, rather than non-specific and potentially dangerous training that they do not.  Goody can make them gut run and chuck on Gosch’s all week now.

Goody covered this at the AGM that has just finished, after a ' question' from the floor

Stressed it wasn't a 'boot camp' , same as last year's wasnt either, and was being run by professionals

It was again an exercise to take the players out of their comfort zone

Obviously the players had some concerns and raised them, the Club has a duty of care towards the players and this was obviously taken into consideration

Clubs will try anything and everything, if the players have concerns about the exercise and not what benefits it will bring, what is the point continuing with it

One thing Goody said was the players thought it impacted their conditioning, nice opportunity next week to top it up?

Forgot to add, apologies to Brent Moloney and co who were hauled through the mud for canning a time trial. Seems it is the acceptable thing to do at the Dees.
