Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

They are now sponsoring the Melbourne Cup so can't see them doing us as well, so maybe the boys will be in Vitaras or Datsuns.

but not as a principal (emirites) or major sponsor (aami, james boag, kennedy, myer)

i still hope it is lexus

Toyota are long term sponsors of the Crows so if Lexus sponsor Demons they may dilute each others marketing a bit ie both marketing to the same AFL watching audience.

Perhaps it is Honda?  They are one of the few car makers who don't sponsor an AFL club.  Honda is a great brand and have very nice cars.

Anyway, we should keep guessing as we don't want to steal the club's thunder of a big announcement and spoil their PR efforts or for some journo to read this and start pestering the club for a statement.

On that note who are the other Japanese car makers with who don't sponsor an AFL team?

I wouldn’t consider Honda to be a luxury car though LH. My guess is Infiniti.

Honda make some high spec SUV and Civics and a pretty neat sports car.

But yes, Infiniti is a good guess - I believe owned by Nissan who don't sponsor an AFL team.

Also Suzuki.  Not sure how high their range goes.  They do sponsor Melbourne Storm.  Could leverage the 'Melbourne' name and that sort of stuff which suits the direction of our branding.   Also, potential joint branding of Gosch's Paddock...?

Curious as to why car manufacturers are such common sponsors of AFL clubs? Anyone with some marketing insight care to postulate?

Might be better to ask an economist rather than a marketing person. My recollection of my pretty rudimentary economics training is that those industries with very high fixed costs (car manufacturers, airlines) spend a lot on marketing; companies with low fixed costs do not.

Be good if it was Subaru as I am looking to buy an Outback in the next few months.

Subaru would be a good get.

Like the three game membership perhaps we could use that particular model as a 2 game sponsor for our " Home Games" out there.

Well the Toyota brand that sponsors the Crows is the Toyota line of cars, not the Toyota that's the paent company of Lexus. There's a difference. While Lexus is a division of Toyota, it's its own brand and line, with its own board, branding and marketing. The audience for a Toyota is different than that of a Lexus. I think a lot of people here are making the mistake of seeing Toyota and Lexus as one in the same, which they're not. You have Toyota the corporation, then the Toyota line and the Lexus line. I don't think there's any sort of market cannibialisation there. Besides, Lexus has lent its name to Collingwood in the past.

I'm happy to offer the opinion that AFL clubs will be scrambling for sponsors in 10-15 years as no car companies are willing to sponsor footy clubs.

We should play off the stereotype, get Range Rover and Mt Buller or Auski as sponsors. May as well, at least we have an opportunity, not like Collingwood will get Centrelink as a sponsor or Richmond the Australian Dental Association.

Have been saying this for years. Too obvious for some perhaps?

Would like to see a brand that provides some metaphor to performance.

Caterpillar provides more grunt than any suburban vehicle and could get improved exposure in NT.

I worked in the industry for a long time so I understand the difference between Toyota and Lexus, their products and marketing strategies. (I have a slightly different view as to when their products are competing against each other but that isn't relevant to this thread).

Nonetheless, your post is important for those that don't know how Toyota and Lexus are connected.

My post was primarily to direct attention away from Lexus in case the attention given to it in this thread undermines the MFC's launch strategy (if it is Lexus).  Hence my invitation to posters to suggest other Japanese brands with luxury cars.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
