Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would someone be able to send me 666s link of the photos with frosty pushing up the ground?

You have no idea how good Lyon is, he is the leading wicket taker in the world, pedo will never win the Coleman, he is not that good, pedo also was one of the worse players in around 23, with finals on the line he sat back and rested on his good game in around 22, he just went through the motions.

Saty, I know it's your opinion but not really his choice if he is a fan of the running or not, you want to be the best then you need to do it.

Agreed.

Got to be able to run. Fitness in the modern game requires aerobic and anaerobic fitness.

Petracca's skills and strength gives him a great advantage in the contest, but I felt that in the season past, he had too much bulk.

There are doubts on both Oscar and Weideman. These are 'readiness'-related and exposed by attribute displays. I believe we have the 'grit' in some others of our 'young brigade' to better fill these gaps and lapses in performance and drive. Not many will agree with me but that is footy and supporter thoughts, of which we are all entitled. I know what Devil's... Detail means when mentioning '...that sick feeling in the stomach...'  and its frequency as these two players are called upon to contribute to the team's success. Anyway, 'Carna Dees!

If we are dependent on this two to get us into the finals in 2018 we can safely book holidays For September.

Oscar is a marginal AFL level Talent who has contributed in 2017 however I fear we wont see much improvement from here on. Lever should easily cover his place in the back line.

The Weid has yet to demonstrate he can cut it at VFL level. I am hopeful he will become  regularly amongst the best five at Casey in 2018.

However don't book holidays before mid September as you will miss our first finals appearances for a long time.

Just a couple of quick notes from training today

Oscar Mac is now a healthy 99kg and is working on core strength, from the player

Standout in running today that involved Trac, Clarry, Gus, Tyson, in other words the younger mids. was Salem

Hogan was again a standout as was Vince, anybody who thinks Bern is just going to go quietly is mistaken

Lewis' left foot is a thing of beauty

Lot of craft drills today, including an interesting one where they were torping in from the square and the forwards were attempting to mark

Viney was out in the fresh air today

Kent is back with main group and looking really fit

Pics on Insta later if Mr Demonland wants to move them over

And the younger players are not involved in a boot camp, from Mr Mahoney, and the boot camp last year is showing  the benefits this year

Thanks Saty, appreciated as always. Just a question about the boot camp. Are you saying that although the 2016 Boot Camp has produced good results, the club has chosen not to do it again? That just seems odd.

I must have missed this "footage" of Oscar's training drill failure vs Lever.  The footage I saw looked like a positioning drill more than a true one-on-one contest.

Glad you can tell that from the short footage. Who was positioning themselves and what was the other player doing?

Not really. Maybe I didn’t articulate myself well enough.

I read a poster talking about Lever’s ability to read the ball drop quicker than Oscar in that drill. And that is something I witnessed many times this year from Oscar.

The moment described was just exemplary of where they’re at as players and just confirms my fears that Oscar doesn’t possess ‘enough’ to succeed long term at AFL level.

If he’s not a gorilla or a zone player, what is he?

A boot camp is something you do once, keep doing it and the players 'relax' into it, knowing Goody and Macca they will have something 'unpleasant 'to replace it?

Amidst the Oscar talk, I wish to again express my concern without ‘potting’ him.

Whilst the Lever Vs O-Mac moment isn’t of any significance at this stage of pre-season, it does give me a bit of a sick feeling in the stomach.

Generally, posters are of the opinion that Oscar will be our ‘Gorilla defender’. But I want to ask how that can be the case given the way we defend as a back six? Aside from assigned tasks, our defenders are nearly almost always on the roll, covering different opponents, guarding space, pressing up aggressively and rebounding even more aggressively.

My concern is that Oscar’s lack of attribute diversity, athleticism, speed and reaction time is completely non-conducive to a modern day zone defence. This year proved that to be the case time and time again. If you’re a slow and athletically poor defender, you almost certainly have to have a strong intercept/spoiling game or be a smart ball reader who positions themselves really well. And Oscar is neither of those things either.

I understand he is ‘improving’ etc. But it doesn’t change the fact that he is not yet strong in any one given area of his game. And unless the Lever addition is going to mean a change to our zone play as a defensive unit, I can’t see how Oscar is going to be of any really benefit to the way we’ve been playing as a back six given how average/poor he is in many aspects of the game.

Or in short; if Oscar is being easily beaten in body-on-body drills against a player who many demonlanders thought to be poor in that area, then I’m concerned for Oscar’s future as a best 22 defender.

This is the one point of the rest that is harder to substantiate. As the season progressed and Oscar become more comfortable at AFL level his judgement around intercept marking / spoiling improved markedly. He is actually a strong mark and added intercept marking - through better positioning - to his game. He could work on spoiling to advantage - Lever is the competition benchmark for this - although he isn't poor in this facet of the game.

@stevethemanjordan  understand where you are coming from on Omac, but watched him do the same drill again today and he was fine, it is December and apart from building him physically as I posted, they are working hard on his craft and the coaches rate him

It might be that as a 'tall' he needed more time to develop...  Realistically, now we have Lever, there is quite some pressure on Omac and Frosty to step up and demand a spot.  With TMac, Kielty and even Pedo able to play tall roles down back (not including our new draftees), We should be able to craft a really strong back 6 (Add Hunt, Jetta and Hibbard, as well as Lewis, apparently!).  If Oscar is going to be the giant killer, then the work on skills and size will be well spent.  It may be that he now gets time to develop in a better, more competitive environment to become the player that the club thinks he can be.  I think he really came a long way in his development last year, and with Lever and the coaching team helping him further, I look to see where he gets to with much interest.  Perhaps he might spend time back at Casey as part of this development.

Last year it was obvious that we had some 'holes' in our list, including down back.  Lets see where Oscar is at the end of the year.

Thanks Saty great stuff

Just to clarify the younger/new players are on a 'getting to know each other' camp, last year they went to Adelaide and went fishing and swimming with sharks and things

This year they've just gone out bush somewhere to do some fun stuff

Here it is again.   Lever is clearly playing the defender in this contest, and Oscar a makeshift forward.  Oscar is at the fall of the ball in time, and has no intention of spoiling, given that Lever "beat" him.

I'm not an Oscar lover, but if you can't see that it's a positioning drill more than a full-blown contested contest, I can't help you.

EDIT (Demonland): Here is the video.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
