Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack Viney will Return to the Track in January.

Looks like they're easing him back in after 6 months off. Hopefully that means they've learnt from previous foot injuries at the club destroying careers.

We need him fit and firing during finals next year.

Yeh, the thing to remember about Trenners of course is that he actually has fully recovered from the foot injury. It's his loss of pace that has done him in. Who knows if that permanent loss of speed is due to the injury or just his natural pace.

Viney is super human!!

If his foot is ready there will be no stopping him next year.

Cannot spell cow but can lift one.

Nah, love it, and awesome motivating in his ear. From decades of lifting, I can attest to the benefits of the mob screaming in your ear when you are at your maximum.

IMV mismanaged throughout this whole episode with his Foot injury last year. Should have taken rest of year of and rehab done without the view to get him back ASAP.

He is in all sorts, Mark my words!!

Agreed with the first paragraph, the second was classic PF hyperbole.

He definitely came back early from the injury.  Whether a couple of extra weeks of would have helped, who knows.  We just have to hope the issue doesn't linger.

It has now been put back to 'early next month' ie early Feb.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/jack-viney-on-track-to-take-on-geelong-in-round-1-as-he-recovers-from-nasty-foot-injury/news-story/aabb7b0156b9db0b954365c33e765d33

We play our first JLT game on Feb 24 and he may be 'put in cotton wool' for the preseason games.  Round 1 of the season vs Geelong is March 25.

I would love to share the club's optimism that he will be ready for round 1 but gee it is hard to see that happening with virtually no preseason.

At this stage I'm hoping he will be able to recover full stop. Foot injuries have a habit of causing reoccurring issues.

The club was Misson in action when it came to managing players returns from injury last season. It cost us badly and it angers me that it could now cause our most influential player to be out for a fair chunk of the year and also have potential long term impacts.

The whole club seems to have taken a step forward, but the physical preparation of the players has gone backwards. Time for a change

Agree with you PF, it very worrying.

What is worse is that he was not the only player returning from injury last year that was mismanaged and it cost us.

I have absolutely no confidence that Jack will be right for round 1, and little confidence that he will make a meaningful contribution this year. This is just one delay / setback after another, some six months or so after the original injury.

The club can periodically release little fluff pieces such as this story as often as it likes, to kid us into believing that all is well, but it has no credibility on this issue.

As I have posted previously on other threads, this was abysmal player and injury management by the club and it will hurt us big time this year, as it hurt us big time last year.

As far as I am aware the timetable was always for him to start running in January. He's doing that. Looks like he will build his running up through January and with that month of running under his belt will join the main group in February. According to Saty he told him he was going to schedule.

Not sure why you are all so concerned. The setback in round 21 was a stress fracture to a different part of his foot close to his toes brought on by his foot compensating for the original injury. Doubt that could have been predicted. The original injury was ok at that point. They are being super conservative this time to make sure no other stress fractures occur.

Don't forget they did get Trenners foot right in the end and as a result probably know more about foot injuries than a lot of others.

I will also be a bit surprised if he plays round 1 if he's only joining the main group in Feb but I'll only start panicking if his foot plays up again from now on. So far so good from what I am reading.

Joel selwood was in rehab all of 2017, preseason, played all year had a good year, I find it stupid how some people think you can't get fit swimming and riding, all which works on a person lungs, he is running, he does not need to train in main group if he is running, then he will make a impact this season, if he is not running then he will not.

Viney will be fine, for Round 1 following a successful pre=season. My concern might be that he may not see the next season through to be plagued by such injuries in the longer-term. Viney, himself, almost dictated his return and this may well be the cause of any unanticipated delays or interruptions to his 'normal' season - yet he is, at the same time - largely invincible. Best wishes, Jay.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
