Simple question; On the whole were you happy with our Draft Picks?

Right now I'm comfortably satisfied, primarily because over the last few years I've developed a fair degree of confidence in Jason, Todd and team to make sound  calls on draft night.  But as always, it's got to be a question of  'wait and see'!  This time  two years ago I was ambivalent about Clarrie (sight unseen), but I now wear a bit of residual egg on my face ..........  and conversely, Col Sylvia was an outstanding pickup in his year,  but sadly, we waited too far long for him to have that one decent pre-season.

As long as none of them are "A Grade" Basketballers or top of their class at athletics, then yeah.....they seem pretty good. To be honest i wasnt expecting much with the picks we had.

One the whole - yes, I am, although as with anything only time will tell.

What I do like is that the club was able to fill a few gaps on our list - Spargo and Baker gives us some pace, Fritsch is the forward to replace Watts (not direct replacement, but you get my drift), while Petty will either develop nicely at Casey or replace someone in our backline as we send Tom McDonald forward.

The only slight gripe, if I could call it that, is that we didn't take a ruckman.  We must be happy with how King is tracking with Pedersen and McDonald able to fill in where needed.  I'm happy to back them on that one.

Edit - we also need to remember that we effectively got Lever as our first round pick, while we got Balic in the fourth round as well.  We did everything we needed to do.

You didn't need the "Time will tell" option. This is Demonland, and most have made up their minds already.

I'm going with, they are all superstars, until Saty tells me otherwise.

As long as they are all competitive beasts, bring their own skillset to the team and make competition for spots fierce we should be happy.

They are part of the MFC family now and good luck to them, hopefully a couple of them surprise us in the upcoming season.

Goodwin seems to value ruthless desire and competitiveness. Oliver, Viney, Hibberd, Lewis, Lever, Hunt, ANB, Jonesy, Brayshaw Jetta and more. The draft picks seem to fit the mould and Spargo in particular looks a likely type, if he can handle the physical side of it. Building a strong group with a ‘win every week’ attitude.

A few less injuries and a bit of luck and we will be trouble for anybody IMO.

Obvious gaps have been manned for development and depth, it seems. Each contribute to a more mobile team and with Goodwin's influences, should display and affect a greater competitive, defensive and attacking playing style.

Trading for a star player affected the moves we could make in the draft but with two kids and a couple of boys who have played some senior footy at a decent level at least we have provided the current team with some more options.

It is definitely true that improvement comes from the players you have - Lever will make that a rule excepted.

Fritsch, Balic and Baker will provide some competition for spots in the bottom 6 of the team in 2018 and that will be valuable assuming our best players are fit and healthy.

I’m indifferent but time will tell if I’ll vote yes or no.

Are any of our new recruits competitive beasts?

it takes 4-6 years before you can grade a draft

my vote is ‘time will tell’

spargo - ok. Would have selected Constable but young Spargo has the competitive streak that appeals

fritsch - a yes vote 7 days a week

petty - not so sure given he is a pure negator. Would have selected Houlahan

baker - like the punt ... pace is needed. Let the ginger ninja loose

I suspect I'll have issues with our drafting for as long as Goodwin is coach.  His philosophy is all about hard-working grunts who will put in the extra effort at training and work hard on-field.  He doesn't seem to value skills at all.  I on the other hand think that while work ethic is a requirement, so is the ability to hit targets.  As long as he keeps the focus on competitive hard-nuts and ignores skills I won't be overly thrilled with the picks we make.

We picked players with skills.

Fritsch in particular is a superb kick and skilled all around, and Petty also is a fantastic kick especially considering hes a KPD.   Spargo and Baker also use the ball well.

I give us an A for this draft, I reckon we nailed every pick but as always, time will tell.
