Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Couldn’t let the weekend go past without a mock draft (courtesy of Callum Twomey) ... and an article about which VFL players are putting their hand up for this year’s drafts.

Surely Ben would be ahead of Max due to the knee reco.

Can't get past the pay wall for the VFL players, is there any chance of getting past it?

How is Bailey Scott playing? Late season bolter?

Bailey's been around the mark as a top 20 prospect coming into the Champs, and has held/improved his standing with some good, consistent footy. Can win his own ball, runs hard and has popped up for the odd goal resting forward. Probably in the 15-20 range at this stage.

it's funny, but if you look at our history of 'down years' over the last twenty years, we always seem to be at the bottom when the draft class is nowhere near as strong as our middling / good years

they're raving about this year's draft class, and of course we've traded out of it

1997: arguably got this one right with pick 1 and pick 2 - trapper and jeff white (traded)
1999: banned from first round, our pick 4 gifted to freo cos they were wayne jackson's baby, same as gc17 and gw$ are gil's
2001: stuffed it up, picking molan
2003: chook mclean and 'one big pre-season away from superstardom' sylvia
2007: cale morton and jack grimes, sigh
2008: jack watts, double sigh
2009: $cully [later converted into hogan] and trengove
2010: pick 5 became pick 12 as we were shunted down the draft order via the introduction of gc17, stuffed it up by picking cook anyway
2011: same as above, except this time it was gw$, and we traded it for mitch clark
2012: pick 3 traded to ensure gw$ didn't nominate viney, wasted pick 4 on the toump
2013: 2 and 20 converted into tyson and 9
2014: 2 and 3 used on trac and gus
2015: oliver and weed
2016: used on above trade
2017 and 2018: used as leverage for lever

at the time i thought it was a good deal, but clearly the pick 2 and 20 for tyson and pick 9 was a complete mistake given just how good kelly has become

Midfielders: Luke English (Western Australia), Kieren Briggs (Allies), Bailey Smith (Vic Metro), Luke Valente (South Australia), Sam Walsh (Vic Country), Chayce Jones (Allies)

Forwards: Bailey Scott (Allies), Jack Lukosius (South Australia), Jackson Hately (South Australia), Izak Rankine (South Australia), Ben King (Vic Metro), Rhylee West (Vic Metro)

Interchange: Sydney Stack (Western Australia), Connor McFadyen (Allies), Mitch O’Neill (Allies), Will Gould (South Australia), Jeremy Sharp (Western Australia)

Coach: Tony Bamford (South Australia)

Assistant coach: Lance Spaulding (Tasmania)

Captain: Sam Walsh

Vice-captain: Luke Valente

The All-Australia side was picked by Kevin Sheehan (AFL Talent Ambassador), Luke Power (AFL Academy Head Coach), Marcus Ashcroft (AFL Talent Competition and Operations), Dom Milesi (Collingwood recruiting manager), Troy Selwood (Geelong recruiting manager), Matt Clarke (Richmond recruiting manager) and Chris Liberatore (St Kilda recruiting manager).

Unless we do some trading, it’s unlikely any of the above will end up at Melbourne.

Must admit really concerned about these Next generation academies, looks like North, Collingwood and the doggies could be real winners this year with Father sons and NGA players.  The kid North will get from Tasmania will be a gun and if no one bids for him prior to there first round pick they will get him for a high 20's pick.  Collingwood have pick 15 and from memory next pick is in the 50s, they are set to get 2 players that should be top 20 picks for basically pick 15 and change.

Probably have 6 off. ((Bugg, Pedersen, vdnberg, Johnstone, JKH, mckenna))  Vince to get one more year. Filipivic off rookie list

trade out Dean Kent to Freo (pick 52)

get Gaff (eagles) Free agent

get Tom Campbell (dogs) trade pick 52 backup ruck

We will likely have picks 31, 44,49 + Toby Bedford as Next Generation.

Pick 31- Tom Lewis or Mitch Riordan

pick 44 - Ely Smith or Lachlan McDonnell (Smokey)

pick 49 - perhaps VFL Marty Hore from Collingwood or Charlie Thompson (Tigers)

rookie list - add Jay Lockhart (Casey)

No doubt we lost in this trade,  but would Kelly turn out as good if he was drafted to us?

Of course he would. I blame our recruiters ahead of development.

Kent is worth more to us than pick 52 keep him.

Bugg, Pedersen, JKH delist, Vince retire and Tyson trade.

Campbell is wasted if Gawn doesn't get injured. Weideman can take Gawn's spot if we are desperate. I think Filipovic would be just as promising as pick 52.

Can you give us some information on your draft picks don't know much about the under 18's.

Any thoughts on Sam Walsh

he is a natural type outside mid like Darcy Parish but better !!

demons maybe should try to package some players and get a early pick

Suns pick 2 or 3 likely at seasons end (they make have both if as predicted Lynch goes)

Pick 2 and Jack Scrimshaw for Tyson, Frost & ANB ??

Interesting article in The Rage today by Wayne Carey about the numerous father/son prospects in this year's draft. More than most other years apparently.  If clubs bid for these it will push other draftees further back in the selection order. This might prove handy for us, given we currently have no 1st rounder

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
