Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What would you pay more money for to help the MFC further stabilize?

I think all of us dees supporters should start up a Go Fund Me Page and encourage them to stick it up the AFL and Foxtel !

The pledge per win is a well used idea - I would be interested to know how much it raises per round. Going back to the supporters time after time for me is not the answer - we need to find ways of getting non-MFC supporters to contribute.

Please understand, this was a tongue in cheek comment

No. As you were not aware of the report was the reason I posted it. I made no comment about its content. K

If you are logical and agree that this is a ridiculous assertion then it raises a few questions, namely who is behind this "study" and what is their agenda?

The agenda as I said from post 1 is remove poker machines from Victorian AFL clubs, hence why we need to find alternative sources of income

Maybe 2/3 of the staff that are employed within the walls of AFL House could be cut and the $Millions saved could then be distributed to the clubs

would equal about $200 Million...

Maybe that’s a question you need to direct to our AFL recommend CEO Peter Jackson & our AFL approved Board of Directors - best of luck - you are laughable. It’s quite clear you have no understanding of how your own club is run.

Unlike you I support our current MFC administration & the AFL

Perer Jackson has got nothing to do with it, stop mentioning his name.

I have no time for the AFL. They are now too big for themselves.

The Building of Docklands Stadium, the handling of the Essendrug Saga and the farce that is the $Billion Broadcast deals is part of my miss trust.

I have no care as to what your views are Dr. Who

Hahaha - interesting.

Did the AFL “recommend” Peter Jackson our CEO?

Did the AFL “loan” us 1 million dollar plus for the MFC to survive?

Did the AFL approve our Board of Directors?

Now how does the future of of playing stocks look like - very positive if you ask me

Oh but that doesn’t suit you - you just want to pick fights with the AFL and argue with our current CEO & Board of Directors.

Im happy to look for alternative revenue streams

You need to toddle off and talk about the important issues like our clash guersey, who we play and where we play them, Jack Watts etc etc etc

Unlike you I don’t let personal issues get in the way of my support for the MFC. I’m happy with the AFL, I’m happy with our CEO and board of Directors, hell I will support whoever we play at full-back full forward or any position on the ground - I will even support our boot stuffer.

You on the other hand - we’ll its all about your personal issues - best of luck with that.

Have you finished yet. You keep repeating yourself for months now.

We all know you are happy being bent over, i prefer to stand up.

Haha “the AFL lent us a $1 million” does that now explain why we are given such a great draw to grow the club each year?

the 2018 draw for the MFC in business terms is an absolute nightmare.

No, it’s time for you to toddle off sunshine.

So the AFL is using Monash to provide studies that help them convince/coerce clubs to remove pokies?

You talk about AFL leans us 1 million, at the same time they gave us 1 million they gave port Adelaide 9 million over 3 years, I am sick of people bring that 1 million up when other clubs have been given 9 times more.

Again that’s a topic you would have to discuss with our AFL recommend CEO ... the AFL’ s & SANFL agreement is very complicated and not the idea of the thread

That’s actually not a bad idea - I worked/employed a Professor at Swinburne University for years on sports betting analysis sadly these days Professor Clark is retired but he was a huge fan of sports betting.

Not all forms of gambling are the same the AFL and educational institutions understand that.

Maybe you create some sort of sellable report discussing - How a mug and their money are easily parted. However, there will be large amounts of mathematical information in it - so tough reading for the English students - but such is life.

So what i would like to know is how you replace $Million revenue streams legally so that 8-9 Clubs can continue to be competitive.

Those things aren't mutually exclusive. You want to just accept any old agenda pushed by the AFL I'm more inclined to actually question the agendas, the motives and the personal interests of those peddling them. When you get studies from educational institutions pushing an AFL agenda you've got to wonder what's going on here. It is akin to Monash releasing a study on the health dangers of Hungry Jack's and never mentioning McDonald's.

No no no, Pokies aren't bad - AFL club-owned Pokies are bad.

If you are implying Monash University are "agenda pushers" and clearly discrediting their reputation - That is a comment you need to direct towards The Chazz - who bumped the thread.

But it is an interesting twist in your line of discussion - first you where of the opinion that the mere existence of a report was "laughable" now you are discrediting the institutions themselves.

I'm personally more than comfortable with our association with Educational Institutions - as I said to The Chazz.

Finally, now its clear what is up for discussion. Hopefully we can get back on topic and find ways to deliver alternative revenue streams. Sorry, to repeat myself, I dont care if they stay or go.

Look forward to reading your ideas on growing our revenue streams.

Here are the views of Monash University

https://www.monash.edu/news/articles/link-revealed-between-afl-controlled-pokies-and-rise-in-family-violence

Again as I said looks clear cut now the pressure is going onto the Victorian AFL clubs - but I said that in the first post in the thread. It’s now when not if

Sounds like a few Victorian clubs have broke ranks and agreed to get out of them.

Collingwood, Tigers, Cats & Bulldogs have agreed in principle to get rid of them.

Hawks, Blues & MFC have been isolated - bye bye poker machines

The author of the Monash study is a well-known anti-pokies advocate, Charles Livingstone. He has linked family violence with AFL pokies venues solely on the basis that there are rates of higher family violence recorded in the same locations as there are AFL pokies venues. There is no causality in his assessment - just linking one set of numbers with another with no evidence showing there is a link between the two. (It's very poor research and I'm amazed Monash Uni has published it.)

I suspect his article is an opportunistic attack through an opening made by the Chairman of the AFL Commission who has made his distaste for poker machines very public.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
