Sounds like you have some experience in the Television industry - sounds like a good idea. You should share it with the club. Im not experienced in this area, but if it was good for the MFC hell I would do my best to support you.

could not agree more Dr G. The EPL is a league for the power clubs with the rest in the role of paid extras.

Not sure but I am getting the feeling that increasingly the Champions League is now where it's at. Out of interest who controls those media rights?

Will be interesting to see if there is any impact from the drop in oil prices given the ownership of some of the larger clubs.

Agreed....however in order to keep the associated poker machines ( and licenses) you have to transfer them to somewhere in the geographical boundaries specified by the Govt ( Gaming authority), or you lose them.

So you need to buy something else close which will generate similar traffic, or the exercise is pointless. 

Bottom line is that you will need $20M+ to do all of this sort of thing, and the proposals in this thread to date about how to make more money are simply chicken feed.

It takes time to build the necessary capital to engage in any serious money making ventures, and that's not the aim of football clubs....it's to win football games.  Occasionally and opportunity arises and if the right people are in charge something can be achieved.

Ian Dicker at Hawthorn, Joseph Gutnick at Melbourne, Paul Little at Essendon, Frank Costa at Geelong and Bruce Matthieson at Carlton, all put in substantial amounts of their own money to create external revenue sources for their respective clubs.  That then creates the genuine continuous cash flow to help the on-field activities.

Dr G Channel 7 and FTA Television is dying. We need the broadcast rights to be streamed onto computer platforms asap. This is a chance for the MFC to be proactive. The broadcast deal we have now is a disgrace. How can we make any cash out of it?

The race to the bottom.

The weaker supported clubs will die off, (killing the competition as we know it) in a free market style media rights.

This is not "monopoly" the game,  It is Aussie Rules footy.

The AFL, has to be run as a Socialist Venture, to survive & be healthy.

Lets be clear I'm not taking about anything membership or seating related - I'm taking about what would further motivate you to send the MFC some extra dollars on a yearly/weekly basis. 

AFL has made its stance clear, poker machines are on the way out, we have a very heavy reliance on the income from those machines and we need to find alternatives. We cant rely that "Project Fruit" will un-cover a satisfactory result for all clubs. 

So in a nutshell - what would you do to further help stabilise the MFC financially. 

A suburban social base H/Q's with board room, & Training facility.

To attract a business person of this quality and this type of dedication would be outstanding for the MFC.

However, if there is one thing I know about many. many business men & large corporations is they have a very "thin skin" when it comes to criticism of their brands and they seek positive vibrant energetic communities to invest in. You would have to somewhat control all elements of your community - However, these days with the internet I wish you well.

I agree with your premise re: FTA TV, although most tv channels are realising streaming is the future and already trying to shift their product to streaming devices such as AppleTV, Chromecast, Roku etc. I just don't understand how we could do better negotiating for a media rights deal on our own. If we were negotiating our own media rights and so were Collingwood who would get more? It would widen the gap between the haves and have nots and probably kill off a third (or more) of clubs. The current media rights are fine, it is the distribution of funds by the AFL and their unfair fixturing that is the issue.

Lets be brutally honest about things like poker machines, they are designed to take money off elderly people ( time rich entertainment poor )  who think all forms of gambling are the same. Ethically, think the AFL is opposed to that they are a bit smarter than that, they fully understand all forms of gambling are not the same. So they are moving exclusively to remove poker machine revenues. 

That could have a massive impact on the MFC. 

This thread is designed to say - its not a matter of if its a matter of when AFL clubs exit poker machines, we need to find alternatives sources of income. But in the off chance machines do stay heavens we have a win-win we keep our poker machine revenues & we have an alternative source of income.

I hope you are right, the anti-Poker Machine lobby get a fair amount of funding they have an agenda to push. I agree with you we are still in-front at this stage. But balls of crystal are their to be broken, things are a changin. You cant hide the truth forever, you can mask it with bright lights, bells and whistles but eventually people will understand a zero sum games - but then again you might be right some will never learn. 

Re your Goyder comments, again Im with you I understand the "review" process as discussed on another thread. But "none of this happens quickly" could also mean Diamond Jim we cant get rid of them tomorrow but we need time to find alternative sources of income. But I hope you are right - Go Dees

I won’t touch the AFL product at the moment. The streaming of their product is appalling and i certainly won’t be giving FOX any hard earned. 

I want to stream MFC games live and have access to replays and game analysis

Can’t get worse than it is now. 

We have weeks and weeks away from the MCG on Fox Coverage. It’s a graveyard. 

People are not prepared to admit the old way of TV Viewing is dead. 

Siphoning off Media Rights has to be done the right way. 

Engage the viewer 5-7 days a week
