WOW - just for the record it was not a "business proposal" - it was an idea.

I'm not wedded to the idea. So far my fav is "unique MFC gear" I would wear that - hell Id even spend money on it.

I have shot your idea down, and you didn't like it.  You have done that to several people already on this thread.  Irrespective of what their ideas are (even if it is as black and white as "winning"), it's their idea.

Unique MFC gear would be great, but would be a long way from covering the loss of your expected pokie revenue ban.

Interestingly, I've given you an example of how the Richmond FC are generating additional income, which would be far greater than that of a business directory or unique merchandise, yet you have completely avoided commenting on that.  Perhaps your connections with the Richmond FC have told you not to discuss it as it is an income producer for them, and they may feel threatened if we get involved with the University of Melbourne.

But its only a basic idea, I happy to hear some from others .... I like the just win idea and the player lawn mowing services. But again happy to hear more.

It would be either through an application/membership/listing fee (most likely an annual fee), or through a % of the total transaction cost (with a capped amount).  The other option would be a standard "spotters fee", but this would be a bit harder to do given one transaction may be worth $5, and another one could be worth $50,000.

A majority of businesses in Victoria, especially the non-MFC related entities, would absolutely back their marketing departments/sales people to generate business through means other than a MFC Business Directory.

Anyway - But I'm not wedded to the idea, its a bit technical not everybodies cup of tea - I really like the unique clothing items in Demon Shop - I'm a buyer for sure on Ignitions suggestion.

Yeah he still posts on bigfooty but had the Giants as his team of support, never misses an opportunity to bag the die hard Demon supporters and blame the supporters for anything and everything that is wrong with the club. Even in this thread he blames the supporters for the club being unable to land a back of jumper sponsor earlier in the year I mean FFS

It's a bad idea with little merit and not worth the mfcs time investing in for little to no gain, probably even a loss. It certainly isn't going to cover $4m.

While I agree unique and good quality apparel would be nice it also isn't going to cover $4m and I'm not even sure we can do it considering the AFL's licensing agreements.

Any other ideas?

You've got to wonder what would compel anyone to do such a thing Gonzo.  I actually feel sorry for people like that,  they really do need to seek some help. 

I've engaged in spirited debate with any number of people on this site but at least I know I'm almost certainly conversing with an actual Demon supporter.  Same deal for anyone else for that matter. 

But a fake/pretend Demon?  It's just nonsensical.

Yes, unique good quality apparel is also my fav idea - I like wearing red & blue sports apparel but not sure even I would purchase 4 million dollars per year worth of it - unless I could on sell it into another market elsewhere. Also these days I spend quite a bit of money on American NFL gear - I like the Green Bay Packers colours of Green & Grey but it is a bit wintery.

The biggest threat to the MFC is beyond our own club's control. I suspect everyone agrees that the major source of revenue for the competition is media rights. So what happens if the revenue to the AFL, which eventually filters through to the clubs, goes backwards? And that's a real possibility. This article in today's Age (and perhaps other Fairfax publications) is about the NFL. But its key message about the drop off in viewership could happen here, too. It's not really about the popularity of the game; it's more about the viewing habits of younger people.

And, indirectly, I think it's why AFL clubs getting out of the poker machine business is an unlikely option. Clubs are going to have to retain their current major revenue sources if TV viewership drops, especially as reduced TV popularity will presumably also lead to lower prices paid for sponsorship.

A large part of the NFL ratings slump would be due to poor Thursday night matches every week and a lot of people opting to watch ESPN's Redzone channel on Sundays (which covers every game, up to 9 games at a time) rather than watch one channel covering one game. It's also due to the quality of the league being down overall a couple of good teams a couple of poor teams and about 25-28 teams in the middle. Combine this with a lot of people opting for streaming options of games and I think it's more about changing viewing habits rather than eyes off the product completely.

Good points and another way of putting that Dr G is that NFL has reached saturation point such that growing the media revenue pie in these days of media diversity is a challenge.

In 5 years time or whenever the AFL rights are renewed who would be surprised if the internet rights (assuming they are unrestricted) are worth as much as the FTA/pay TV rights. In fact that will be where the battle is... ie between the pay TV dinosaurs and the emerging internet streaming behemoths

I totally agree, i would love some Golf gear done by the MFC, polo shirts, hats/visors, shorts.  Nothing over the top just a small logo.  I would be many....

ahhh - golf the other great American game ( although it was invented elsewhere ) - great idea thanks for the contribution. At this rate looks like opening a sports apparel business has a small edge, all be it in a very small sample size.
