Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The second, well I'm not sure that being left behind in Darwin for nearly three months without even a pillow can be really considered a holiday.

I have no idea what this means.

Please explain Skuit.

I poked my head in for 15 minutes this morning at Gosch's. I'll leave the observations on the minutiae of the drills etc to those who care more about that, but  my biggest take out from my limited time there was the increased size of Weideman across his whole upper body. He's now a really good size.

Whether he gets much game time this year I don't know, with TMac likely to go forward, but physically, he's now just about ready.

I thought that too from the training photos of him this week.

Was he training? He wasn't on Monday. I think his tank is the bigger issue about him getting a game. Strength is important for confidence with big guys but the run in his legs is what he needs to make more of an impact.

I'm not a huge Kent fan but these sort of comments interest me.  Do you know this for a fact or are you deducing it from your observations?

Educated observation.  Loved Kent prior to the day I saw him, lost a lot of respect for him after that day.

Definitely wasn't a clean up.  Was more extensive surgery than that, but not sure of it was a full reco.

And Saty, I would be astonished if the club has told him that "he has to put it together this year or the door will be beckoning".  It would be a terrible way to start any player in a new preseason, especially one coming back from a serious should injury.  All it would take would be a minor setback during preseason, then the mind will likely take over and pack it in.  Players put that pressure on themselves, they know where they are at from a contract perspective, as well as a pecking order perspective.  The club doesn't need to put extra pressure on them, especially 12 months out from a possible list management conversation.

Pedo was told in no uncertain terms what he needed to do to stay on the list

What the players have liked about both Roos and Goodwin, is there is no sugar coating, they know exactly what they need to do

Listen to Mahoney 'the players attitude was excellent' and has been rewarded'  they know what is required, it's whether they respond

Also why every player up to now has returned in ripping shape

See what I've done above?  The message is the same, but the outcome is different.

All players would know what they need to do this year to improve.  Some will indirectly know the outcome if they don't, others won't (just have to see this year's trade period to see that).

I agree, no sugar coating with Roos, but he has a reputation of his people management ability.  He wouldn't get that by telling a bloke 12 months out that if he doesn't do "this" then he's delisted.

I don't expect you to agree, but have a think about it.

Everyone but apparently one, now ex Dees player.

Peds, if I recall didn’t come back “early” last year but when he did he came in great nick. Hope Kenty does the same and gives himself one last shot at the big time.

I think you're underestimating a players ability to know where they stand in terms of staying on the list.  Blokes like McKenna, Bugg, Kent, Pedo, AVB and JKH (this is not an exhaustive list) know that if they don't perform the chances of getting another contract are slim.

Telling them what they need to do is telling them they'll be delisted if they don't.

All players would be told of the things they need to work on.  How would they know where to improve if they weren't told?

My point was, Saty seems to think they are told of the consequences if they don't do what's asked.  I highly doubt that would happen.

I'm not sure you're right but whatever the situation they would know if they didn't perform they wouldn't be a MFC next year.

Misson's take on pre season so far:  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-11-15/nealbullen-stretch-impress-early

He applauds Stretch and ANB.

Not everyone showed up as would have liked:  “They’ve come back in OK shape – some that we would’ve liked to have come back a bit better and there are some we are pleasantly surprised with,” he said.   Can any of our track watches tell which players look just ok?

He talks about the players that were/are on injury list.  Kent gets a mention:   "Kenty, with his shoulder, has been able to do a fair bit of running work, but still needs to improve that strength and range in his shoulder"So while he isn't getting a mention in reports and photos he is obviously working out, somewhere".  Good on him.

A notable mention is Viney:  "...He’s still got to work on getting his range in that ankle back. We’re not going to rush him back into football work...".  The latter bit is especially good to hear.

I just read this and was also concerned about who wasn't back in the shape they wanted. I know every club has them but I'd be disappointed given the end to the year we had

Chazz.  No doubt he is fully aware of what he needs to do to stay on the list without being told straight out.......and if he doesn’t know then he doesn’t care enough to be retained.

Really have a good deal of support for Kent, as I have stated previously. He has some great attributes culled by a shoulder dislocation that is a cruel, longer-term injury at best. Yep, it would be nice to see him back on the training track and interacting with the team very closely, particularly after the season that he has endured. It is not a great sign that he has perhaps missed early sessions by remaining on his holidays, if that is the reason - despite the 20 November schedule for return. Kent is capable of great movement and positioning, and can actually kick some wonderful goals 'on the run'. He is tough, although not as tough as he was prior to his injury, of course. Really looking forward to his return to the body of the kirk - a needed player and I hope his injury can largely be regarded as 'behind him'.

I'm sure I saw footage of Kent on the track for the first run last week. Lay off, you guys..

Also saw Vandenberg. They're still in rehab...

About to turn 45 years old. First run back tonight after bilateral hernia surgery after just recovering from shoulder reco.

Talked shyte with the boys.

The usual hitting of chests.

One grabs.

Put away a few tins.

Batted away mozzies.

Home to cooked snags.

Love my footy training nights.

I thought he had a full shoulder reco?

Was a full reconstruction. You don’t just get a cleanup after you dislocate your shoulder. You need a stabilisation procedure which is otherwise known as a “shoulder reconstruction”. Usually involves a keyhole (arthroscopic) repair of the labrum. 4 month rehab process minimum before return to play. If he had it done just before the end of the season, he is still miles away from full training.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
