Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lever No. 8 - Will locjer up next too Viney.

Balic No. 20 - Obvious choice I think.

Corey Maynard No. 9 - Corey has a tonne of characteristics you want in a player. Will play 22 games this season I think.

Joel Smith No. 27 - True backman number for the Dees. Sean Wight, Anthony Ingerson.

No. 4 - Who knows?

Like Lever in 8.

Don't quite know why (probably because I think of 33 as more of a speedster/Wizz type number), but I'd prefer to see Maynard in 20.

Would like to see Joel Smith in 27, as I think he has a bit of Sean Wight about him, the way he plays hard and athletically at the footy and as a defender, that make it a good fit to honor that number (can't recall if Shaun and Sean ever played together).

Well according to Demon army reports, looks like I got Lever and Maynard, but Balic has 27.

With 4, 8, 9, 20, 27, 31, 33 & 41 Vacant.

What numbers do Jake Lever & Harley Balic get?

Do any current players get an upgrade?

Jayden Hunt upgrade to 4.

Joel Smith gets 29 (that his father wore).

Weideman gets 9.

Lever gets 8 (next locker to Jack Viney).

Balic gets 20.

Is this confirmed or your wish list?

...well the last is a bit of a wish list, as I understand that Maynard has 20.

I somewhat like the thought of Smith in 29, but Hunt also has ties to 29, being some relation to Andrew Obst as I understand.

Spargo in the No.4, then all the little kids won't have to look up to a new player in the number, they can look him straight in the eyes. ?

(Edit: And I think he'll get plenty of game time)

Why the changes?  Will it make them better players? If not then wtf?

Why not? What is the harm or cost in changing jumper numbers?

Agree, who knows maybe James Harmes wore #4 regularly as a junior , maybe it's his lucky number , maybe he thinks he can run faster with less weight on his back

Who cares - good on him for asking and thank goodness we didn't leave it vacant in some pathetic gesture to honour the departure of someone who is no longer on our list

I for one think Harmes can be a regular member of a very competitive football team - don't remember not putting in when it was his time to go - hope he has a blinder of a season

Yep. I think if I were a player I'd want to make history in whatever number I got first up, be it 1 or 50, but if it gives another player a nice little buzz to get a number more of their choosing, I don't understand why supporters would throw dirt on it. It's a gift the club can give its player that literally doesn't cost anyone anything.

It's being pedantic, I know, and I'm probably fighting a losing battle, but I don't like the idea that moving to a lower number is in any way an "upgrade". It's just a meaningless change which serves no purpose other than to annoy those supporters who have already purchased a jumper with that player's original number.

I know that if I was rewarded with a spot on the list and given any number from 1 to 99 I'd want to keep that number for the whole of my career, however long it may last. Players should be encouraged to stick with the one number and to make their own history with it. And the idea that a lower number is somehow a more privileged asset just seems like another way to differentiate players into the "haves" and "have nots" (meaning, in this instance, having the confidence of the coaches). I would have thought that's not the best way to unify a squad.

It's a throwback to the 70s and 80s where your jumper number was indicative of your place in the world, and the senior players all had lower ones. I would have thought we would have moved past that by now too, but when was the last time you saw a player freshly drafted on the rookie list get a jumper number lower than 30? Hell, it wasn't that long ago that we had Chris Connolly putting Blease and Strauss in 46 and 47 because they had to "earn" lower ones.

It all seems silly from the outside, but once an idea becomes ingrained in culture it becomes hard to break. Just need a few confident young stars to strut in and go "jumper number 95, please" and it'll start to get some momentum. In the mean time, we can have this conversation over and over again every year on Demonland!

If we're giving Petty number 33, surely his nickname has to be LP.

Clever!!  (I wonder how many of the young posters on here will get that?)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
