Watts said something similar in a post trade interview.  I don't think either meant to chip Goodwin or Macca but it makes one wonder about positive motivation vs 'carrot and stick', post Roos.  

On a lighter note JT is the designated 'chaperone' for Watts:  "Ken was pretty keen for me to live with (Jack) to keep him on the straight and narrow."  Watts said in a recent interview they will share a house at Henley Beach. 

Having his mate who knows his way round Adelaide, is a known hard worker/trainer to buddy with, may just be the making of Jack Watts.

No, it doesn't.  Of course he is going to say something very positive about a coach who has given him a lifeline.  He'll do anything to stay in the good books.

Absolutely spot on.  He played with Trenners for 8 years and saw how hard the bloke worked to get his body right again, and even that wasn't enough.  I don't think that will change now.

Decided to have a looksy at how Trenners is doing in the SANFL. 

Leading the league for disposals and DT points. 2nd in the league for clearances. 3rd for inside 50s. 4th for tackles. He’s killing it.

If he doesn’t get named tonight with all of Port’s outs including some of their inside brigade in Wines and the like, it’s hard to imagine it happening. 

Hopefully another call up isn’t far away. He’s doing everything possible to get one.

Agree.  I've been looking at his stats.  he is averaging around 40 touches and often getting 2 goals per game!

Trengove would be a massive upgrade on the likes of Maynard, C.Wagner & Kennedy-Harris who are just clogging the list. That said, there is no point him being on the list either if Goodwin won't play him.

Trenner's story is definitely not a happy one, started so bloody well and looked like he was going to be a 200+ game player for our club and a gun to boot. Then that foot problem (with a little help from the club and Neeld) ruined him.

Another one for the the "what could've been" book.

I still find it facinating that the mental weight of the captiancy actually resulted in physical stress on Trenner's foot. Quite remarkable really.

Wouldn't surprise me if he is still there in a leadership capacity. 

 

I suspect it would be unprecedented for an AFL captain to still be on a list 6 seasons after stepping down as captain.  

 

Hopefully he can snare a few more games before he's done.

I'd take him back if he wanted to come.  I still remember the quality of his kicking when he and the other new draftees arrived at the club.  The four of them were doing some kick to kick and his targets never had to move to mark the ball.  It was always in front of their eyes.

I'm not blaming Neeld for all of the club's woes and certainly not the currently predicament. The captaincy and the stresses put on such a young body must've played their part. Trengove and others have admitted that despite there being concerns he continued to be played and pushed way too hard. The mental weight is a completely different story, I actually don't necessarily blame the club for going to down that direction. It was a gamble and Jones was no more ready than either Grimes or Trenners, fact was at that time we were actually void of any true leaders.

But the club (and as the coach of the time Neeld) played a part in Jack's mismanagement, to ignore this is to not learn form your mistakes. Unfortunately I don't think we did because we pushed Viney back too soon in 2017 for a last ditch push at the finals, ultimately it was a mistake and it cost us in 2018 with limited matches. Like Neeld, Goodwin should shoulder a portion of that blame as well.

Well he just so happens to have played a couple games alongside JKH in 2017 so we have some ready-made comparative data we can turn to - Jack picking up a collective 29 possessions (3 contested, 1 clearance) to Jay's 33 (14 contested, 3 clearances), with 4 tackles compared to 10. Yes, they played in different positions. No, Trenners wouldn't be a massive upgrade - and I think little of JKH as a footballer. Corey Maynard, in his last two games, also has Trengove covered on the stats-sheet across every column.

Two games from two years ago? Not sure that tells us much of anything. I don’t see JKH or Corey Maynard dominating allcomers at the state level. Maybe I’m not imagining hard enough.

I’m not advocating for a Trenners return, partly because there is next to no chance of that happening, but his form surely warrants another roll of the dice when half your team is out injured.

I am now quietly hoping Port get thrashed this weekend.

Jack Trengove started his AFL career in 2010

A foot injury in the 2013 pre-season hurt his campaign, and he was more successful with defensive duties during the season than as an attacking midfielder. After playing 20 games for the season he relinquished the captaincy at the end of 2013. Dropped after two games of the 2014 season scans after two games in the VFL revealed that Trengove had a fractured navicular bone ...

You're right P-Man. Two games doesn't tell us anything. Watching almost his entire career and the fact that he can't make the depleted Port team-sheet however tells us that he wouldn't be a massive upgrade on the likes of JKH as contended - who, if I recall correctly, had a crazy patch of state-level form leading up to those two matches.

We all saw what happened to Trenners. He lost his pace, and he didn't have much penetration on his kick to begin with. Without any elite skills, he doesn't now have the physical attributes to successfully step up to the next level. It's the same case with JKH I'm afraid.
