Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

MFC really never benefitted from an historic home support base a la Collingwood and for that matter every one of the VFL teams.

If we had one I suppose it was along the train line to Caulfield, ie South Yarra, Prahran etc. Simplistic but they were never your traditional hotbed of passionate supporters.

The league of supporters posted I think by yourself LDC a few weeks back shows how badly we fare in the sheer number of supporters.

Not sure the Irish catholic anecdote quite holds up as I think that table showed Essendon at or near the top. Not sure of the traditional demographics of the Essendon area but it never struck me as being Catholic, Irish or otherwise

The MFC’s main problem was not capitalizing on the new TV ? coverage  that began replaying games in the mid 60’s. We were very rarely on TV when i was a kid.

I watched everyone else.

I saw the Demons at the ‘G in colour, all the other teams i watched on TV in

I wonder if we'd beaten Cats x 2, STK and Port where we'd be.

+1,000?

+5,000?

+10,000?

I reckon the losses against Hawthorn and Collingwood hurt us more, not the fact we lost the way we played I reckon put a few likely people back on the bench and St Kilda loss was the sealer.

Would be talking about 1000-1500 members extra.

If we can take that next step on field 50K is achievable  next season.  Next 5 weeks mean so much to our club

44,227 today.

Memberships close today so could be close to the final tally.  Just on 2,000 over last year's figure 42,233 ie 4.8% increase.  Pretty good given the dramas at the end of last season/year.

Importantly we have increased memberships by 25% since the Jackson/Roos era began.  Light years from the Tigers 100,000+ but also light years from where me might have been without Jackson/Roos.

A long way to go but we have come a very long way.  Some finals and wins should get us to 50,000 next year!

we picked up (somehow) another 131 after the supposed close of memberships last year, so with today (and there being 3 home games to go) and the after-flow we might scrape to 44,400. my 44,444 prediction might still have a chance - lol

Our draw also didn't help, only 4 home games (at the 'G) before the bye (yes I know we played 2 away games at the 'G in that time), as compared to Richmond who played 9 games at the 'G in the same time period.

Surely the way we play will give us a few more cracks at prime time as well, which in turn helps to drive memberships. The Tigs get 6 Sunday games while we're left with 11.

MELBOURNE has notched-up a new membership record, passing 45,000 members on Friday afternoon.

It’s the first time the club has gone past the 45,000 mark, after Melbourne surpassed last year’s membership record of 42,233.

Chairman Glen Bartlett said he was delighted with the result.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the club and something everyone has been working hard to achieve,” he said.

“On behalf of the Melbourne Football Club, I’d like to thank our members for their support and in reaching 45,000 members this year.”

It’s come at a great time for the club, leading into member thank you round on Sunday and with memberships being cut off at 5pm on Friday afternoon.

Melbourne has increased its membership each season since 2014. Last year, was the first time the club went past 40,000 members.

That means we have sold 721 new memberships this month!  Great response by supporters to the likelihood of making finals!

Would imagine there will be a very good crowd on Sunday:  good weather, winning form, big game!

Plus the club is giving away free tickets via members bringing friends.

maybe more lucy, that article was written before cutoff at 5pm. they are probably still counting

anyway it represents about a 6% increase yoy. we need about 11% increase next year to make 50k

I hope no more than 50k. It gets too hard to go to any game outside of interstate teams.

If we win one final I reckon 50,000 is a no brainer!

Weirdly I was actually barracking for your 44,444 pick to get up but can’t complain about 45,000+

What do you reckon, make the prelim this year and then get 50,000 members in 2019? Talk about becoming relevant again

As I’ve said before a Tiger supporting mate reckons it is now a pain in the bottom to go to Richmond games. No more just rocking up just before the first bounce. Requires much more planning.

Just an aside but what if Demonland becomes too popular? Will there be a need for a Casey Demonland? Or perhaps go with a Demonland Premium? Demonland Black? Diamond Demonland? Or Demonland Elite?

50k+ and I move to a 3 game membership. 50+ is great for the club but not so much for OD.

It was a topic on SEN this week, have we been just incredibly lucky with our sport/footy viewing over the journey.

When you think about US and UK sports yes we have been.

Cheap and easy to get into or just roll in and get a ticket. Now it is a lot harder especially for the large member based clubs.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
