Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My kids are a bit younger and got the "Little Devils" pack and they were stoked. They got a backpack, stickers, colouring book, fake tattoos and the creased Viney poster. They were wearing their backpacks and lanyards with stickers all up and down their arms last night

My sons 19. I wonder if I can get one of these for him.

Here's something to aspire to.

According to today's "Sunday Sin" the toiges membership has reached 70000 before Christmas. The article also indicates that there membership was around 35000 in 2010 and has risen progressively each year.

We can only dream

when every club gets to at least 70k members it would make you wonder if it's worth buying a membership

I wonder that now DC. Games against big teams are already hard to attend.

i have friends who are colliwobble and bummer members. They pay much more for membership then they have a lot of games they have to book online and pay even more for entry. Makes foxtel look a cheap option. At least us demon members can just generally rock up or pay a relatively small amount for a reserved seat at the start of the season.

I look at the schedule and ink in the games against interstate sides plus Nth and saints the rest get a ? Mark I then decide to attend the day before based on how many I think will attend. The day is fast approaching when I will buy a limited game number membership or an interstate membership and just pay at the gate for games I attend.

Indeed dc! Seating will become tricky - not to mention guaranteed GF tickets.

in a previous life i used to go to minnesotta a lot. nobody (but the rich) bought season tickets for the vikings. it was just too expensive yet there was only 8 home games a season. people used to form groups to buy season tickets and company social clubs would buy slabs of season tickets then onsell to members for individual games based on methods like lucky draws etc. every game had scalpers.

Sadly we are fast approaching that here dc. I used to go to the USA quite a lot for work. None of the people I dealt with were poor however none of them went to games of any of the major sports. Strictly a TV event for them. They did have a well developed system for group events with barbecues and back yard parties etc. I might add the NFL is not very enjoyable at a game constant stop start. From my experience it is a lot better on TV.

agree with the stop start. but they do fill the stadiums. which is not surprising for cities the size of melbourne with only 1 team and 8 home games. most fans i met try to get to 1 game a season and they make a big day of it, otherwise the sports bars do well

I agree old dee we are heading down the US track very quickly. Grand Finals will soon be for the rich and a select few.

As an interstate member I make 2 to 3 games a year at the G and the Subi games. I go and watch junior footy/wafl colts every weekend and local footy on Saturday.

Love my Amateur footy in a Saturday arvo with a group of mates and our kids can't beat $4 beers.

The AFL needs to be careful pricing out the regular punter and killing the goose who laid the golden egg

Minneapolis StPaul has a population of around 3.3 million according to Wikipedia and the stadium capacity is 67k for the 8 or so games of NFL.

Many years ago I lived in Washington DC. Even then tickets to a Redskins game were impossible to obtain. People literally left their entitlements by will to family members. I managed to get to a practice game two rounds before the start of the regular season. The stadium was full even for that. In the year before I went to live in DC, Congress passed a law requiring the NFL to broadcast matches into cities where they were played if no tickets were available. This was almost 15 years or so before the AFL allowed live broadcasts of the Grand Final when they were sell outs.

We are very lucky with our ability to attend games and the price while not insubstantial is low by comparison to followers overseas. I often wonder how traditional supporters of the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool ever afford to follow their teams.

I manage a few Amos games here PSD. To be honest I enjoy them as much as the Dees. You are much closer to the action and there are no problems getting to or away from games.

That's the aim of the AFL/clubs is to have so many members that games are on a reserved basis only, just like the WA/SA clubs and Essendon (when playing at Docklands). Makes them more money and the TV rights will go up when that is the only way people can watch. It's why I've held on to my AFL Membership and why I signed my kids up for it at birth, will never have a problem getting a great seat and if the Demons ever make the big one I'll be all but guaranteed a ticket.

Interesting Dr G... I very much agree

Geelong is  a god case in point. Would not be surprised if they play some of their bigger games down at Karidinia Park and make it a high priced ticket affair. I suspect that they would do better with 35k ticketed game as compared to 65k at the MCG where 20k or so are MCC and AFL members

Cats already do this - I looked at getting tickets to the Geelong/Richmond game there this year (my wife is a cats fan) and it was going to cost about $120 combined for seats at the top level on the wing. She has a Geelong AFL membership but that only gets her GA admission there so she had to pay an extra 45 or so to reserve a ticket and mine was $65

The game is now out of our hands, largely. One corporate ticket is worth more to the AFL than 10 general admission tickets - and the fanfare for catering and refreshments and ego-time seems to have surpassed the general principles of spectatorship and team loyalties. In a very short time, footy will be out of the reach of those who made it great with their loyalties and affiliations. If this is going to be the case and in fact, does eventuate, its 'goodbye' from me and 'farewell' from him. All we really wanted was a seat, a beer and a pie with sauce - for two hours per week during the season - or even more occasionally. Shame really, the AFL hierarchy seem to prefer to behave like politicians with their accumulated largess.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
