Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agreed. A massive pick up. And Omac is still a kid. Give him 10kgs and 50 games and we have a very, very good backline in the making. Backs don't win Norm Smiths, but they do win most flags.

What is OMac's number 1 asset?

Once again... Lever??? Hibberd???

If you want to make an Omac thread... then go for it.

BUT... and this is the only time I'll derail here... he makes it to the contest. That can't be taught. The rest can.

I can't help but disagree.

Tom McDonald has had great difficulty in trying to rectify his disposal and decision making throughout his entire career.

There's only so much improvement that can be developed, if your base is a low one the ceiling will be much lower.

I can't see how you would judge a footballer on this criteria...

Most footballers have a strength or several areas where they can dominate - pace, height, hands, strength etc. That's not unusual at all. I am surprised you find it so.

I am not judging him by any one criteria but I also don't think he does anything particularly well and was interested to here what Fester thought. Feel free to pipe up.

And BTW you are setting the bar pretty low if you think making it to a contest is his key asset. You might as well say he puts his boots on the correct feet.

Jnr, I agree that  a few more arrows in the quiver is useful, however, given our recent much publicised delisting, the ability to "make it to a contest" appears to be very highly valued at the club.

Agree sort of. Making it a contest is better than just arriving at the contest and doing nothing....

I would be more inclined to talk strengths and weaknesses not focus on what his number 1 asset is and you seem to have agreed in your last post..

'stevetheman' seems a bit preoccupied by this number 1 asset thing too.

As a young player he seems to have something to work with, he reads the ball quite well, sometimes spoils or marks well, other times doesn't get it right...he panics sometimes with the ball in hand and other times uses quite well.

At the moment I see a young tall defender with some promise who is still a ways off. A bit more strength and experience and he may well be a player.

I think Oscar's no.1 trait as a 196cm tall is that he's a competitor.  As he physically matures, gains more experience and in turn becomes more confident he'll be that steady last line defender you can rely on.

There's no elite trait, but he'll be dependable and do most things required by a defender really well.

Yep spot on. A good assessment of where he is at i reckon. I'd add that he is smart and a pretty good kick. For a big young defender he is tracking really well (better than his brother at the same stage of his career) and as you say he is a competitor, which Goody has made clear is his number one KPI. Plenty of upside, which is exciting.

Like his brother, he will work super hard over the pre season on his strength and fitness and on aspects of his game he needs to improve.

He'll put on at least 5kg from last season (and he might even still get a bit taller) and be the key defender we need to free up Lever to play the role we have recruited him for and allow his brother to go forward, as noted in this article (if it doesn't work just do a search on the title of the article and it will unlock it).

I really wonder why I keep coming back to this place. 50% is mindless point scoring on mindless points, and the other 50% is insults. Most of you people have no idea. You really don't. You read the Age or watch the news and think you actually know something. Then when people that do know a little bit about the game say something you all line up with BS stats or insults. Most of the best posters here are the ones that get the biggest kicking.

Hmmm.

Garland didn't play an intelligent brand of football. Even at his best. It will be seared in my memory forever in the first 10m of a game against the Saints at the MCG  where Garland left Reiwoldt to run to a contest on the members wing. He got to the contest but opted not to jump at the ball or impact the contest in any way. He stood at the back of the pack doing nothing. Needless to say Reiwoldt ran back to towards the goal and received the ball and kicked a goal - Nathan Jones tried valiantly to dive on the ball and nearly killed himself in the process. Garland jogged back to the defence after the goal.

I have seen numerous times Garland doing supid things like that which are unforgiveable for a senior player.  He had one good year finishing, I think 3rd, in the Bluey. Other than that he has very average.

Don't suppose you remember what year this was? For some reason I'm keen to hunt down footage and see this.

On the outside it had the all the makings of a benign communal love-in, like one of those threads with 'Neville Jetta' in the title. Michael Hibberd speaks about Jake Lever coming to the club - two recent AA-quality recruits to our defensive unit. We express our mutual happiness, congratulate the club, and look forward to our bright future with a warm fuzzy glow in our hearts.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
