Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The popular view is that Melbourne will be looking to draft an outside midfielder as one of its main priorities with its four selections between #29 & 47 in the draft.

But there was one player who was mentioned on Fox Footy Channel's Combine and Draft programme last night as being within that range who is an inside midfielder and who really impressed me. Here's the profile from AFL Draft Central ~ Draft Profile: James Worpel

Swap the best kick in the League to secure a draft pick to snare the worst kick in the League (but who is tenacious at the ball)! ?It might work?

omg, what a buffoon. Why would you use 'best kick in the league' as a way to describe Watts? lol. How about a player who probably isn't a top 200 player in the league, came 21st in our best and fairest and has had 1 good season in 9 years to snare a young draft pick who is hungry and tackles well.

Impressed you in what way WJ?

I also saw him in a couple of occasions and he possesses nothing that we need

And of all the talked about inside contested players I saw, he was the least impressive.

Looks hard at the ball and dedicated to the contest in the limited amount of vision that I saw.

I haven't seen enough of him to come to a conclusion as to his disposal but I remember one Nathan Jones at the beginning of his career and his disposal wasn't all that flash when he started but he worked on it as dedicated players do with their weaknesses.

We're not talking a top 10 pick here.

We should've just kept his legs and sent the rest of his body to Port Adelaide.

Clot! In case you hadn't noticed, Watts is acknowledged by most as the best kick at Melbourne and being the best kick is not stating ' the best player '. If you think that he "probably isn't" top 200, maybe you might reel off the 200 players ahead of him? I mentioned his tenaciousnous so there is no argument there but just because somebody has a higher regard for Watts kicking ability than you do doesn't necessarily qualify them as a buffoon.

Worpel reminds me of Sam Powell-Pepper and Matt Couch. He simply gets the footy and is a true footballer.  He is at the contest and ready to play in 2018. Disposal is 50:50 so not a fit for the Dees.

Probably goes to Kangas at 23, Cats at 24 or Giants at 27.

I have one for you this kid seems very level headed, good size and looks to have good footy smarts, good winner of the ball - thomas north eastern ranges

A fair point, time will tell and all that.

But as others have already alluded to, I think contested-heavy, one-paced and average-skilled mids are the least of our needs at present.

We already have several and it becomes problematic when there's not a lot of attribute diversity between them.

Aside from Oliver and Petracca, nearly all of our mids share similar strengths and weaknesses.

Agree, of all the contested-heavy type of players I saw at Tac cup level, North impressed me the most.

best kick for goal yes. Best field kick probably not. I'd say Salem, Hibberd are Lewis are all better and you could make a case for garlett too.

So this is 160 odd players that I rate higher than Watts. There is probably a few debatable ones but there's a truckload more that you could make a case for to be ahead of him also. Either way you look at it, we certainly aren't giving away a player that is top 150. I think  175-200 is about right.

Salem, Hibberd and Garlett, I won't argue with as far as being good disposers of the ball, but Lewis is shocking for turning the ball over.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
