Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Colin Garland

He had an interesting start to his Melbourne career when his unflattering pre draft posting on Bigfooty re David Neitz came back to haunt him.

A great clubman whose stint at Melbourne must have been character building.

Cam he coach ?  No idea.  Being a great servant of the club with incredibly noble sentiments doesn't mean he can coach.  But it would certainly be a happy ending.

Garland on one leg playing out his career at Casey next season would probably still have more value than any of the bottom 10 players on our list.

I can only assume we are keen to move on players in the key 26 -29 age bracket so we can continue to bleat about how we are the youngest and least experienced team in the competition, thereby buying the coach more time to get his act together.

He'll know how not to coach.  Has had plenty of "great" role models in his time at the MFC.

Col was a semi frequent poster on bigfooty before being drafted.

Shortly before being drafted, a thread was created on the main board asking who was the greatest forward of all time (or something similar).

The opening post listed potential candidates including the usual suspects... Carey, Lockett, Dunstal etc. Neitz name was also mentioned.

Colin replied to the thread explaining that Neitz shouldn't be included in the conversation. It said something like. 'You must be joking if you are including Neitz'

He was correct.

Not sure there is much sense to that post.  King was always going to get another year having shown some promise and only being one year removed from a knee reco.  Filipovic is irrelevant because he is on the rookie list and not taking up a list spot relevant to the Garland situation.    With Spencer being delisted, surely they will be able to play King and Filipovic in the same side anyway.

Not sure if you have seen the 2016 or 17 GFs yet, but if you do you may have noticed that tall, immobile, dinosaur ruckmen are obsolete, unless they are incredibly talented or can play forward as well - eg: Roughead and Nank.

Not sure either if you saw a VFL game, but if you did can you let me know which game you thought King showed promise. I watched a fair few and I can't recall many moments when I thought "Gee, he's a talent".

Not sure if you watched Flipper train pre-season before he got injured, but I know I did.

One back-up dinosaur is a luxury. Two is downright stupid. And even more so given we already have the best dinosaur-style ruckman in the business and there is now no VFL development league.

Which club doesn't have at least 2 back up rucks?

It doesn't work that way because clubs could rort the cap. That's why the length of the Buddy to Sydney deal raised so many eyebrows. If he retired before the 9 years, his salary is still included in the cap.

Yes it does. The player of course has to agree.

The Buddy clause is Buddy specific, or 9 year contract specific, and is perhaps more free agency related.

How many premierships have the swans won with buddy? Zero.

How many parked cars did he run into?

Who pulled out of the finals last year because of ‘mental health issues’?

Too much money. Spoiled the brat. Spoiled the culture at the club.

Sorry I may need to explain more.

Richmond had Hampson and Maric as dinosaur-style rucks and chose not to play either, instead opting for Nank, who they brought in as a likely forward/ruck before altering their makeup to use in tandem with Grigg. They have retired Maric and are deciding on whether to bother keeping Hampson.

The Dogs had Campbell and Minson in 2015 and chose neither, instead turning Roughead from a defender into a ruck. As with the Tigers they wanted more mobility.

We have plenty of back-up tapmen already - we saw how good Pedo played this season and T-Mac was very competitive when he was used their as well. Both Frost and O-Mac can also be used in the role - especially now that we have Lever and we also have Weid, if he can get fit enough.

So we don't need two young dinosaur-style back-ups in King and Flipper on top of all the others IMO.  It is an old-school list approach that is overkill and it gives me the s... if we are trying to oust Garland for their sake.

Yes Flipper and King are on peanuts, but we could have had two potentially hardworking forward/mids instead and also pay them peanuts and Casey would get way more benefit out of that.

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate the effort. I just think that clubs might have a different idea.

You said 'Two is downright stupid'. Most clubs still have at least 2 first choice ruck back ups. It will be interesting to see what clubs do from here on in. Personally I would love for us to try for a 200cm forward who can play ruck. But good ones are very rare.

I have no problem with holding both King and Filipovic. It would be great to have a clear stand out 2nd choice though.

Both King and Filipovic aren't likely to show anything good for a few more years. So I see your frustration when Garland is the one to pay for it. I hope the club is doing the right thing by him. I have met him a few times and he seems very genuine and has gone through the worst time in our history.

Umm? He's retiring. So the loyalty and contract statement can only logically be taken as a dig at Colin?

No. I spoke to Col in August before the Lions game. Said he was looking forward to 2018.  Maybe a throwaway line but not sure it will be a retirement or a ‘suggestion by the coach for list management’. He had a contract for 2018.

Col is a great bloke, loyal and gave it 100% despite our lowly positions.

Good man that Colin Garland. From the Jack Trengove school of unlucky buggers.

Personally I would prefer that Casey employed them both in coaching/playing roles, particularly Jack who was last year's B&F and has a lot to offer both Casey and MFC players!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
