Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

HIGH FLYING SON

The son of high flying Shaun Smith promised much during the pre season and it was disappointing that he hurt his shoulder early in his first game after doing so well. Joel Smith's return in mid season was also stopped in its tracks by injury - this time a season ending knee injury.

I think Joel Smith is going to be great for us going forward. So athletic and courageous. Skills aren't great so I'm not sure how a backline of Oscar McDonald, potentially Tom McDonald too at times and Smith would fit in but promising.

He has plenty of good physical characteristics, not sure about the football characteristics just yet.

Unfortunately he had so many injuries this year, that it is almost a wasted year of development, despite the (brief) taste of AFL football.

I do wonder where he fits into a defence that contains Lever, Frost, McDonald, Hibberd & Jetta.

Dude why are you so negative in like 2/3rds of all the season review threads?

The players on the list have worked they absolute ****s off to be able to run with the best of the best yet you seem to treat the majority of them like they're a disposable and not worthy. You need to chillax mate.

... being a little harsh?  I actually think poita is presenting a fairly objective perspective on Smith. Smith had a really solid preseason, and a lot of us were excited by what he could bring to the team, the Rnd1 Injury killed his season, and  he did qualify the comment by saying it was 'almost a wasted year' of development. Smith didn't come back anywhere near as strong as most would have hoped after the injury (Watts anyone?) but I think Smith will play more VFL than AFL, but still got a lot to offer the club at present I believe.

The question of where does he fit into that defence is valid given the inclusion of Lever to the side.

I wasn't talking about his exact criticism of Smith, well apart from not being sure about his football characteristics which are very good having watched a lot of his VFL games, but just his overall demeanor when it comes to the majority of the players.

In fact this whole site seems to be quite negative when talking about most players, and it just makes me mad since I personally know the blood, sweat and tears that go into becoming and then staying an AFL player, yet people here talk about them like they're cattle.

I guess I just hoped a site used by dedicated fans of this awesome club would be a lot more positive of it's players then talking crap about them all the time.

From the average supporters perspective, these players are 'playing a sport' sure its at a high level, but it's a sport. So those who aren't as invested in the 'personal' aspect of the players, what they go through etc will never understand what they go through.

This time of the year will bring up a lot of crap... just be selective of how deeply you dip your toe into the swill! :)

Drunkin   I did warn you when you started posting, do what I do, like imagining your bully of boss naked and [censored], review some of the previous posts over the years, the number of players written off on here   Try Nathan Jones in his early years, absolute gold some of them

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
