Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No, done for the day.

The thick plottens. For the record, I'm not one of those "I hope all their stars are injured" types... but in terms of selection, without Viney, the implications are huge. A bit like if Dusty misses for the Tigers. They're that good that the entire complexion of the game changes.

Still lots there to worry about. Danger, though, I just don't think we have an answer. I don't know that anyone does really.

Looks like the word has come from The Age's Michael Gleeson; " Patrick Dangerfield has injured his hamstring in Geelong's final pre-season hit out before the AFL season.

Right. Usually if it's a serious injury, you get the news within 10 minutes on what it is. If they stay coy for the rest of the game, then it's usually because the injury isn't serious.

Massive, massive implications.

Look out now for the media to say all week that he's had two weeks off... he MIGHT play.

Suspected foot injury according to the AFL Update.  Can't speak for the reliability of this source.

Wow, you got that just now? I've been getting hamstring... This is all very strange.

Now I'm hearing slight calf from some Geelong supporting friends.  Best off waiting for the official report I guess!  The rumour mill is in overdrive.

My breakout summation is for Harmes. He is developing so well and blending with his teammates almost perfectly. I have been watching him closely, quietly and see enormous motor skills. He'd be my morphing agent to emulate Dusty in the future - and he is tough as nails. Great on the outside heading forward.

I've always thought the only thing holding Harmes back is his kicking and decision making.

Often I've felt his poor kicking has been tied to his exhaustion.

Perhaps now with increased fitness and a few pre seasons under his belt, Harmes' kicking has improved. This will make him a very dangerous prospect and I can certainly see the Dusty comparisons. It's not as ridiculous as it sounds.

He's a really fascinating player, isn't he. Has everything an AFL player needs. And will crack the all-important 50 game mark in round 6. These late picks/rookies... they're an absolute requirement for any successful team. We've got some already with the Hunt types. I want to see this guy play 22 and not be a cusp player anymore. ANB the same.

GEELONG superstar Patrick Dangerfield will miss the season opener after tweaking his hamstring early in the Cats final pre-season hitout.

Yep, if we can continue to convert and develop our later/rookie picks, our best 22 will be well on the way. Development and the "Melbourne way" game style are key.

The elite younger talent we have: Hogan, Oliver, Lever, Petracca, Salem, Viney, Tyson, Brayshaw, Gawn.

Convert the later picks such as: Tom McDonald, Oscar McDonald, Hunt, Neal-Bullen, Harmes, Hannan, Fritsch.

Couple these with our elite elderstatemen: Lewis, Jones, Vince, Hibberd, Garlett and Jetta.

And the consistent role players we have: Melksham, Frost.

There's 24 that make weaknesses hard to pick and it's certainly a strong bottom 6.

One more year of list clean out and player development and hopefully we should be looking at 25-30 players able to step into the 22.

See now... this is why I was one of the few that didn't really care about the last round last year. The main bulk of the list is still so young.

Also. Our last 6 are really very good. Not saying it's a flag for us this year, I still think there's some work to do... But we're building the right way.

How sad. Bernie gets a tick - too much of a confrontation - intimidating poor little 'umpires' mate, Patrick via the selectors' pen. Very sad. Oh well, it's allegedly his football, and he is taking it home, I guess.

Thought to have a crack a the team now that ins and outs are becoming clearer.

B:        Jetta     O'Mac    Hibberd

HB:      Lewis   Lever       Hunt

C:         Brayshaw       Oliver      Petracca

HF:      Melksham      TMac/Pedo      Neil-Bullen

F:         Garlett   Hogan    Hannan

Fol:      Gawn     Jones     Tyson

Int: Stretch, Harmes, Salem, Vince

A lot of flexibility in that team with TMac or Pedo, whichever one plays, able to cover resting ruck and, if required slot into the back key positions. Of the 22 named, 15 of them can run through the midfield not counting the likes of Hogan.

Fritch, Frost and Bugg as emergencies

Backline: Think the preferred 7 is just about picked, although ideally I'd replace on of the fossils with a solid two way defender or slide Gus or Salem to half back and play an extra mid.

Mids: Without Viney but hopefully with Clarry I think the best 8 pick themselves

Forwards: Sounds more and more like Tom misses. Still could go any of 4 directions with the very last spot - Bugg/Fritsch/Hannan/Garlett but at the end of the day I think the game plan is built on contested ball and work rate and that's not Jeff's strengths

I like this team; I think that Garlett will get in before many here (Fritsch, Hannan, Harmes and ANB).

My guess would be Garlett in and Harmes in the Emergencies.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
