Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There seems to be a lot of sentiment online that a "supporter" won't buy a membership if player X is let go?

In this case player X is of course Jack Watts. The Melbourne Football Club posted a post on Facebook plugging the purchasing of your 2018 membership and the majority of comments center around people claiming that they won't purchase a membership if Jack Watts is traded.

Do you subscribe to this? Would you not buy a membership based on a players retention, trade or delisting?

I sort of agree but there is a place for a protest against stupid decisions. I think members have a right to withdraw financial support if they think necessary.

I have kept my membership going through good times and ( mostly ) bad but if Hogan left, for example, it would but my patience to the test.

Its a marriage...and an old fashioned one. No back door exits.

If I want to complain I write a letter or an email but the only three things that would stop me buying a membership are dementia, poverty or death.

Goodwin has had massive wraps on him from coaches and players alike....we really gotta get behind his decisions. Full respect to you Nasher but if Hogan leaves it will be to go back home. Which is  the very same as lever is doing right now. Its the modern game. We survived Neeld ( ok... only just) , we survived Scully leaving....and we'd survive a hogan exit if it came.

I qualify on 2 of those 3 criteria and I'm not far off the third.

With all due respect to all on the site. Many people are prone to making rash emotional decisions, then on social media feel they have to have their say about what they think today. However, aka the Watts decisions we wont be able to truly access the decision for maybe 3-5 years. In social media people get way too caught up in the moment and subsequently handle criticism very poorly. There has been much study into this phenomenon and some companies understand that "instant feedback" is just that a snap shot of an instant.

As much as the club shits me off I will always buy a membership.

I dont c the point in hurting the club financially by withholding my membership cause I don’t ageee with axing player x or recruiting player x.

I'm in.  I even bought a membership every year for the 6 years I lived overseas.  Sometimes being a Melbourne supporter is painful, but they are my team.  If you tell me you are dropping your membership because we are trading out a player you are not a supporter of the club.  It is generally self-important twats that think they have some sort of leverage to change the actions of the club through these kiddie tantrums.  Your membership is 1/40,000.  You carry 0.0025% of the 'membership' - and you think your antics will change anything?  Nope.  The FD are invested with the decision making for a reason.  If you want to have that sort of say, join the board, or get qualified enough to join the FD.

As a general principle, its about supporting the club,

We are not going to agree with all decisions made by the coaches or club thats just life.

There are decisions made by players and club that may rock the foundations of the club and damage support.

Barassi leaving Melbourne to go to Carlton probably the best example. And you can imagine what would have happened if Robbie Flower had left the club or been treated badly by the club.

However, it is not just the decision. Often its about how the club has behaved, how it has communicated or gone about the decision. Has it behaved ethically or fairly in the eyes of its supporters, players and those involved with the club.

I may not buy a membership if I thought the club or coach had behaved badly or acted in an unprincipled or unethical way.

An example, would be if the club supported a player that had acted illegally or in a criminal manner. Or a coach.

Will I buy a membership this year? Yes.

This has to be a trick question surely! (I understand the reason for asking it)

I would buy my membership regardless of who is in the team. As far as list management goes I don't think its an excuse to stop. No player is bigger than the club, ever.

Not a trick and this is probably not the venue to ask that question which is why I will also pose the question on the Demonland Facebook page.

I will be renewing my membership until the day i'm six feet under regardless of who is traded, delisted or retained.

To be fair, if the club brought in Ty Vickery and made him captain I'd be hard pressed not to have a gap year.

Maybe the reaction isn't because of the name of the player, or that we view him as some kind of Messiah. Maybe it is because we were burnt by Neeld, then got to experience some semblance of sanity with Roos, only to have the same tired tough man talk return to the Melbourne corridors with the next wannabe.

On the same website atm we have an article saying we're delisting Ben Ken, and then another article saying we're interested in small forwards. That doesn't make sense to me because I actually rated Ben. But it doesn't upset me. I'm not in control of these decisions - and I recognise I don't know enough about Ben's on field performance to judge what was holding him back (tho I can't remember any of his performances quite as bad as some of Garlett's games). But they didn't come out and belittle his character in the departure article did they?

All I know is in the most crucial game last season Watts was one of our best. And now the same bs rhetoric that supported Neeld's time in power is  being repeated to support this decision. Fool me once?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
