Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2017 Player Reviews: # 26 Sam Weideman

SLOWDOWN SAM

Weideman showed some promise when he broke into the Melbourne team late last year but suffered from "second year blues" in 2017 and late in the season was struggling for kicks with the Casey Demons. Some hard work in the off season is prescribed.

Another year in the Gym  for me

Prepared to wait 12 months

Low expectations at the moment from what I saw this year

Really hope he develops

I still have faith he will be good support for Hogan in the years to come. Needs to eat lots of steak over summer and hit the iron hard.

I find it hard to question the FD in terms of recruiting lately as they have been stellar - so I trust they see something we may necessarily not.

Still early days for me, showed in a couple of VFL games that he can be a focal point, but his role in the VFL is unlikely to be the same in the AFL at this point. Hogan and TMac are the key forwards.

Would like to see maybe a 6-10 games and a little more impact on the scoreboard in those games, but building mass and and the frame to support it will be key to 2018 for him.

Is he going to need to start learning some ruckcraft as well?

For me, his reading and awareness need to improve first and foremost. I spent a little time watching him when he did play in the AFL side and the game just seemed to move around him. Second to that, a little more time in the gym should be beneficial. From VFL reports he did show some glimpses of brilliance, which at his age and height, is the least we can ask for. Hopefully, he takes a few steps ahead over the off-season and in the new year.

Basically a wasted season for Sam, as I saw no improvement from year 1 to year 2. I have little hope at this point that he will become the player we need him to be, but clearly the club will give him every possible chance to make his mark, and then some.

The biggest mistake we made was giving him AFL games that he didn't deserve. Far better to make him so hungry and desperate to get in the AFL side that he never lets his standards drop, than hoping he steps up when games are gifted to him. The talent is there, but that is all at this point.

Essentially Sam needs to be much harder and more committed in his attack at the football and at the contest. Part of that is getting bigger and stronger, but it is also the mindset that he is going to play with a lot more physicality than he has to date. He has to get fitter so he can cover more ground and make repeat leads. He has to keep himself in the game for longer by tackling and chasing. Plenty for him to work on over the break.

Aside from a couple of cracking VFL games, I'd would've liked to have seen more from Sam this year. Saying that, he'll be given plenty of time by the club. He's a key position forward who only just turned 20 a couple of months ago.

Not concerned yet.

In the games I saw when he was playing at Casey and AFL level he has next to no presence on the ground.

As you say the game seems to go on around him. Even at Casey he had little impact on the results.

He’s super young, and I think it’s worth remembering he barely played at underage level due to injury etc

His frame looks like he will be able to build a decent size in time, but it’s going to be a slow build

He has the talent, now a matter of building the body to allow him to use it

Not sure that is the case DA.

I have seen bugger all of it so far.

Blease kicked five once at AFL level.

Yeah I understand that, however he has to be given time to fill out first.

GC's Tom Lynch didn't do anything until about his fourth year.

Not saying he's Lynch but he has time.

He has the talent, just needs to gain about 10kg

Mark 1 and 5 were strong. Still not convinced he knows how to read the ball off the boot.

He is a beautiful kick I will give him that. Wish Hogan could kick with that kind of distance.

First time I've posted in a long time.

We have shown great faith in Sam ever since we grabbed him in the draft. He was supposed to slot in beside Jessie as an attacking key to a succession of premierships.

Sadly I'm afraid that he has shown us absolutely nothing. He might have played 2 good quarters with Casey in 2 years. Hulett who has been delisted was certainly no worse

He doesn't get the ball and he has no onfield presence.

On present indications- he's on his way to the flop club to join Lucas Cook and Luke Molan.

I'd love to be proved wrong - but for all it's brilliant recruiting efforts over recent years - the FD is still prone to serious errors!

Big year for the Lad, needs to show something to go forward with, especially the way the game is going with the small midfield/forward types could be an obsolete type player if he doesn't show dramatic improvement e.g. Contested marking and physical aggression at the contest.

His best game was against Hawthorn  o late 2016. it was also his first game .

He has not done much since.

He played no football in his under 18 year and is physically under developed for a KPF.  I'm of the belief that rather than not reading the ball in flight, he is moved of it too easily by mature defenders.  Needs time in the gym; another 10kg and a stronger core will help him a lot.

Realistically, he shouldn't have played the early rounds this year- especially with Hogan out- hes a kid, and played like it.  Will be hoping for him to feature in the second halo of 2018, if not, then it's the time to get concerned.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
