Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How about Tippett for Watts as a straight swap?

Too slow and cumbersome to play forward these days. I'd take him on the list as a back up ruck but I wouldn't trade a good pick or pay the cash for him.

If we can have him for a 3rd round pick on 300k a year for 2 years then he'd be a handy player at Casey and come in to the side if Max was injured.

There's a kid, I forget who he plays for. Young developing tall forward, pretty mobile, doesn't yet have the body strength to really be a full key position player. But if he gets another preseason into him, works on his fitness, he'd be a really handy long-term option to fill the gap left by Watts while also maturing into a great key forward pairing with Hogan. He's probably worth a top-10 pick, we should get him.

I would be sad to see Watts go, from an emotional attachment perspective, but, when I thought about our structures 'post-Watts' suddenly the writing on the wall appeared. Watts doesn't quite fill any given 'team role' and in that situation you have to really be outstanding at what you do, to hold your place.

Personally I think the next evolution of forward lines will be a 2xCHF set up where both spend almost the whole game on the field, alternating roles between long leads and target closer to goal, to allow for recovery from the different types of efforts. The rest of the 'forwards' are really just midfielders who worked hard to get to the spot first. I didn't think the Demons would be able to do it with their list, but with Garlett proving he can work up the ground, Watts (the 3rd tall, even when he's the second tall) leaving, and our overall large number of medium or small forward-midfielders or midfielder-forwards (Hannan, Kent, Kennedy, Neal-Bullen, Vandenberg, Petracca, Brayshaw, Harmes) I think it can all fit together.

Hmm, I've just used a lot of words to say "Oh hell no not Tippet, I'd rather get nothing than get Tippet".

Well played..

Thanks WWS. I had a four-page diatribe ready to go for the 'big one', but I thought I'd bury a 4-word throwaway in a nonsense thread that will be forgotten in a matter of days.

watts IS going - it is simply what we can get for him (listen to Trade Radio if you don’t believe me). They report the MFC have indicated they will accept a second round choice - I think remarkably, but we are where we are.

I find it remarkable that we say what we will accept before they explore options. At the moment there are at least three clubs looking at Watts (including the Swans - hence the suggestion), yet we say second round is ok..

In my my business career we have always practised you play one off against the other, to maximise the outcome. We are giving everything away...

Another example is delisting Spencer, and we now know a couple of clubs are after him. We need to monetarise these opportunities!

Gee that doesn't sound like much does it. Cant we swap Jack for a mosquito fleet?

Spencer is an unrestricted free agent.

There is only one very unlikely scenario where he holds any trade value, and that would've been another club asking for a trade to avoid free agency compensation dilution. And that would've been something token like pick 72 anyway.

There was nothing's to monetise.

Rohan or Tippett for Watts.  I would keep Wattsy.

I say yes for Rohan as we have laid our cards on the table ahead of time with Watts so I originally expected Jackshyte compo. Why pay anything much for a player who has been cast loose by their club?

But with the Swans interested we can deal on salary cap issues. We may have to take on Rohan's salary and most of Watts remaining 2 year contract as well. We only get this because the Swans have salary cap problems. This is lose lose but modern AFL reality.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
