Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Do Melbourne supporters dislike hard players?

To me there seems to be a trend where fans favorites are usually nice boys.

Players like Bugg, Kent, Silvia and Moloney to name a few, may have issues with club rules, but having had too passive a playing list for so long surely they should be encouraged not condemned.

In my opinion there's a club bias towards clean cut players like Oliver, Watts, Trengrove,  and so on. Quicknote, I'm not slandering those players just mentioned.

'When the going gets tuff, what do we sing!'

Thoughts?

you neglected to give some examples of hard players

No-one more well liked than Viney and no-one harder in the league

Judging by your spelling of Grammar I can see you didn't go to school there. No more Jayden Hunts from Brighton Grammar?

The problem is that our "hard" players are never of the Selwood or Dangerfield or Hodge variety. We seem to draft a whole bunch of Mitch Robinson's who seem to embrace the fact they're AFL players and that's it. Go through the motions, do what you need and get the pay check.

A "hard" player is either one driven by success or driven by the symbolism attached to what it is to be recognised as a "hard" player.

Moloney and Sylvia were both equally good players as they were dumb and lazy. As soon as the going actually got tough, they were ineffective.

I think Melbourne supporters just hate losers. We've had a lot of those players over the years. Perennial losers who could easy notch flags at VFL level but don't have the mental capacity or drive at AFL level.

Equating where you went to school with your hardness is a rubbish argument

Having played against plenty of teams from "tough" suburbs i have found as many squibbers in non grammar backgrounds

Tough enough to whack you behind play from behind but not so tough getting the hard ball

You might be right that privilege breeds complacency but it might easily be seen to demand higher standards than the riff raff

He also loved Pikey and would always point them out excitedly whenever they got into a shoving match or bumped players off the ball. I guess he saw them as standard setters.

We got rid of him because he liked to drink beer in his undies when he wasn't training.

Leigh Matthews let him do it as long as he never missed a (training) session.

I didn't know that. Funny. He became very important for the Lions.

Perhaps he only meant the 'on field physicality or pub fight standard setters'

The issue  Dino is about the  Melbourne supporters and what they percieve.

Nothing to do with being wacked or any other on fileld behaviour

The thesis is  whether the mainstraem MFC supporters dislike hard players

ok? My argument is that in the members they are a very very conservative lot who do dislike hard players(read not good guys from good schools)

Lets keep the discussion on track

What happens outside the members Iwill admit I have no idea.I would apprecciate some  illumination from there.

By the way, complacency doesn't begin to describe some supporters lack of understanding.

Jackaub, you didn't answer my question on Brighton Grammar product Jayden Hunt. Do you not think he is tough and courageous? I guess you think Christian Salem a squib because he went to Brighton.

Love the hard nuts like Viney, Jetta, Oliver, Hibberd and a guy like Jayden Hunt who will throw his body in to contests. Players willing to put their bodies on the line will always be endearing to me.

Not so sold on someone like Bugg who can be a pest but when it works it does give the team a bit of swagger. His punch was out of character and I didn't like that we left him by himself on that.

Not convinced by Lewis and Vince getting suspensions as their careers age and they slow down and get frustrated. Especially when it's off the ball strikes or rather soft little elbows that are just silly.

Think there's room in this side for a forward line aggressive player who might suspended for rough tackles or bumps but is a physical presence and serves it up to teams. Enter Aaron vandenBerg possibly.

My understanding is we let him go as he allegedly assaulted a female MFC employee while under the influence?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
