Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Some of the worst comments were from people here hoping he would be sacked etc.

The week after Houli got four for the same thing ,his penalty apparently lower than Buggs because he is from a different theology.

I hope Callum Mills learnt his lesson.

He certainly did in his Final

What??? Yeah sure, thats exactly why he got a different penalty Biff....

Got nothing to do with it.

Really?

Waleed Aly,Ali Fahour, and Malcolm Turnbull were in Houlis corner-3 upstanding  men of unquestionable integrity defending another.Ha!

Bugg just got left to cop the full force of the falsely outraged football media.Houli was defended as an ornament the game with the words  "completely out of character" used ad infinitum.

Bugg- on the other hand is a "serial pest', "antagonist", etc and deserved up to ten weeks according to some.

I've never seen a greater case of cultural bias and the idiocies of it play out.

Houli's hit was alongside the play and he flung his arm back concussing the player. Bugg's was a direct punch to the face half a ground away from play, in fact the ball wasn't in play as it was yet to be kicked in from a behind.

Look at each player's history and reputation on the field, Bugg is a serial pest and antagonist.

Doubt you'd be saying this if he was Christian or Jewish, Biff

without going into details, moonie, i'd rate both incidents pretty much on par for penalty purposes

The point is Tom has written a refreshingly candid and insightful piece. It wouldn't have been easy and I for one believe in his sincerity. A stupid act and he paid the price.  Importantly he accepts this and seems to have learned the lessons. It is all we can expect in the circumstances and I hope to see him in the team for years to come.

A well written and presented article by Tom - it will be interesting to see whether his playing style will be different next year, for better or for worse.

And without excusing his actions in any way at all, I wonder if the AFL will ever crack down on those niggling elbows to the kidneys and the guts off the play that we see every week, especially before the ball is bounced.  I can only remember one being penalised - of course against MFC to CarlTank resulting in their first or maybe their second goal.

It is ugly and does result in what could almost be described as reflex actions with occasional serious outcomes.

No the AFL won't crackdown as long as those idiot TV commentators fawn over how competetoive and manly it is to push and shove and kidney punch before the game.  All the umpires have to do is award a free kick (consistently)  to the first one they see, regardless as to how unfair it is and the players will think of some other way to show how competitive they are.

Trouble is when kicking for goal he cannot kit the side of a barn with a cow.

I'd like to see you try kicking a cow AND hit the side of a barn!

I reckon if you kicked a cow near a barn you might hit the barn.

I doubt the kick would budge the cow more than a centimetre or two... however, in response, the cow may well kick the kicker into the side of the barn, yes.

Whats there to open up about?    It was a smart hit that took an opponent out of the game, a game we would have won if not for all the 6 day breaks surrounding it.

Hope he does it again next season, keep up the good work Buggy.

I found the article very interesting on a couple of fronts.

Firstly I think that Bugg came across as a thoughtful person who deeply regrets what has happened and has taken full responsibility for his actions and is learning from it. He has learnt from the impact it has had on the team, the impact it has had on him personally and he has learnt of the possible impact it could have had on Mills.

Secondly, I found it interesting the reaction of Goodwin as the coach. from this article it looks as if it has been a correctly balanced response.

I hope that Bugg comes back a better player from this and that the playing group as a whole learn from the whole episode.

These days footballers certainly go over the top. There is an enormous pile of garnish on that article.

He punched him in the head, got suspended.

Move on.

Sort of feel the same way but the kids nowadays are so tuned into social media they get slammed for chit like this. He fkd up, if you're genuine say sorry, mean it and move on.

Stood out his desire to be successful as a footy player is only recent. Glad the penny has finally dropped.

Hopefully not playing will spur him on to be better and I hope it makes the club better.

Social Media makes it a lot harder than just move on.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
