Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2017 Player Reviews: # 9 Jack Trengove

THE FORGOTTEN MAN

Jack Trengove has been a wonderful servant of the Melbourne Football Club. He was thrust into the co-captaincy at a young age in a team that was beset by problems at a time when serious foot injuries prevented him from playing at all for two seasons and ultimately stifled his ability to return to the form of the prodigious young talent who was once a #2 draft pick.

Our forgotten man fought his way back into the AFL side for short stints on two occasions in the past two years but he wasn’t able to sustain his place and was better suited to the pace of the VFL. Sadly, even fairy tales don't come true and he might was delisted last week but it would be a good touch to keep him around the club helping out the younger players at Casey as a mature age rookie and then, who knows what might happen then?

Very sad what happened to Trengove

Unfortunately he is too slow and moderately skilled for the modern game; if you are bereft of speed, you have to make up front with other attributes that Jack has clearly lacked since the foot injury

His story is a tale of symptomatic woe since joining us and unfortunately he is probably best served playing out a fine career at lower levels

A wretched shame given how strong his first couple of seasons were

A Great Person no doubt, but he should never have gone at number 2 in the draft, he was never that good.

Being made Captain was just ludicrous, not his fault but i wish he had declined the offer.

But the real sad one was playing weekly with such an injury for tthe best part of 2 years. Many on here could see there was a problem, but Jack was continually played. I am suprised Legal action was not instigated tbh.

The thought of playing Senior AFL with a serious bone injury i cannot even imagine, but i question why it was allowed to go on for those 2 seasons.

The club really was a shell back then...

He is one of the last reminders of our darkest days. He deserved better than what he got career wise, but he got to live his dream of being a league footballer which is more than many of us achieve.

Thanks for being a bright spot during our darkest days.

I wish him nothing but luck in the future, he really deserves it. It would be nice to see him picked up by another AFL club, even perhaps as a mature age rookie but as much as I would like to see it happen I doubt it. He doesn't look up to the speed of AFL footy and his weapons when he was a young player, power to bust through and accurate penetrating kick, appear to be behind him.

We will never know whether it was the clubs poor management of him that affected/created the injury that crippled his career, but it doesn't take a genius to know it was a bad decision making him and Grimes co-captains. There weren't good options back then, but that wrong the wrong one.

Good luck Jack.

I have said it before in other threads that we should keep Trengove as a Demon. Not as a mature age rookie as suggested but off our AFL list (and outside our salary cap) as a part of our Casey team where he has shown that he has lots to offer. Hopefully players graduating from our Casey Development League Premiership side can show the senior VFL and AFL sides that a Demon Premiership is possible in our lifetime and Trenners can be an integral part of that! ?

Men like Jack dont come along everyday. He's earnt his pay even if he wasnt able to repay  it in a kind we would have hoped.  I totally agree he should be kept at the club in some capacity even part time  (to allow him his own avenues of interest )

If anyone knows how hard it is, and how to keep focused and how to push through...it's this bloke.

Again..I have absolute respect for Jack. I feel those coming through would instantly have it too.

another thought

Often in footy it's not the out and out champions that make the best mentors/coaches. Many players can go through their careers enjoying the fruits of their talents but not necessarily ever being pushed to the brink emotionally nor experiencing the 'black dog' effect.  It's often those that have survived adversities; personal, physical or otherwise that have that insight and ability to understand it in others and convey the methods of dealing with it in return. These often are ones who can nurture and elevate others to be their best.

memo to MFC....keep Jack close ;)

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
