Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We didn't pay overs for Lever. The reason we're part paying Watts wage is because he has low market value. That's not the clubs fault that's because he's never worked hard enough or hit enough contests

Called for an extra shovel given what is being served up here

I agree but this doesn’t give me much confidence in the club and I still don’t trust them that they r making the right decision.

I wish that Roos was still at the club tbh.

Fair enough. I guess i look at it as we have a first year coach who will make mistakes (time will tell if this is a mistake), but as long as he makes less mistakes that what he does great we will be just fine.

im more concerned about our fitness staff and will be very interested if we see the same traits as last year (fading at the end of the season, soft tissue injuries etc).

hopefully it’s a great year and we will all forget what we were worried about.

I hope it was a Spear & Jackson #9 with brass binding around the handle.

No. It’s because he has a contract with the Melbourne Football Club. That’s why we have to pay him. Like we paid Travis Johnstone to play for the bears.

If he worked really hard and hit contests we wouldn't even be having this discussion

I remember the 2016 b&f. Jack said he felt awkward on stage and he was usually in the audience  getting pizzed.

roos implored the players to choose greatness and watts returned to be dropped from the pre season games.

you remember what you want. I'll remember another in a long line of unfulfilled talent.

Why do you try to change reality.  Jack said something along the lines of 'it's taken me a long time to get up here so bear  with me' I don't recall anything about him say I'm normally in the audience getting pizzed

It's ironic that people are upset over the cost of bringing in a pick 4 equivalent player who's playign to his potential and turfing out a pick 1 that didn't.

Pick 4 equivalent ??

Just set aside your rose colored glasses and look at the deal in itself!

It ain"t Lever for Watts !!

Too simplistic!

JW has been right royally Shafted ! Any way you cut it the scapegoat for last year!

I repeat Goodwin and his band of illusionists better get it right for next year!

I'm not sure!

Many should have gone before Jack !

History will judge the quality of this decision.

Now this statement has been repeated ad nauseum, and is hard to comprehend.

If we were a premiership team, and Watts was an integral part of the success, I could understand if there was some residual backlash from his teammates. The Whale Roberts being traded from Richmond, and Bradbury and Carey from Essendon, are examples where trades had an underlying impact on the playing group. But these teams had multiple premiership success behind them.

The MFC is a team that hasn't played finals in 11 years, and is still seen as mentally fragile. If the players arc up because the FD want to weed out players who don't exhibit elite standards of professionalism, then we will go backwards. But that falls on the players, not the FD.

While not disagreeing that the club badly mismanaged his initial career Watts has never shown the drive to improve- Jones, Jetta and Pedersen are examples of less naturally gifted players who worked hard on improving their games and have cemented their places in the best 22. Watts has been kicked up the arse multiple times by different coaches (Neeld, Roos & Goodwin have all dropped or challenged him at one stage or another to improve his game) and it still hasn't clicked for him. I'm not sure moving to Port will change that as I think it's all above the shoulders for Jack.

The club has made a statement .

Do not invest in players, they are just a number, loyalty doesn't exist and don't bother buying jumper numbers for your kids only to have their hearts broken down the track.

This is the first time I have posted this year .

Yes I am still here if anyone remembers me :)

If not it doesn't really Matter LOL

All have to "Say is watch this space" . If Melbourne goes one better or more next Year everyone here will be lauding Goodwin's expertise and foresight

If we do worse everyone will be calling for his head me included and pointing to the Jack Watts decision

Personally i am peeved not so much that we have got rid of Jack though that rankles me,  but that our Club is still making the same mistakes !!!!

My membership and that of my Family is hanging by a thread . Lack of success or even something to pin our hopes on till now has left a bitter taste , and finally when we seem to be making real Progress and there seems to be some light at the end of the Tunnel we get this !

After being a Melbourne Supporter for over 51 years I'm fed up with personalities and their own agendas in our Club

We are supposed to be a club and what is best for the Club should be at the forefront of everyone' concern especially those  involved in the club

All I have to say now is Make it so !

 Enough Said  !

Fire away folks :)

I get what you're saying rpfc but I don't think any right-minded posters supportive of the Watts trade think he was 'Ground Zero' for poor commitment and preparation - rather, that his personal commitment and preparation as a senior member of our team and in a position of influence wasn't sufficient.

Further, I don't think anyone supportive of the trade is saying Watts is directly responsible for our failure, and as a footballer will be the difference between a flag or not (although plenty are arguing that we will have no chance without Watts), but that we're continuing to develop a culture that will push us towards success.

Lastly, Jack Watts was unfairly made the face of the MFC through a combination of factors - Melbourne supporter criticism was the least of these. And I'm happy to concede that this may well have played a part in his departure - Goodwin, when asked yet another question about Watts in a late-season post-match presser (when Watts had been demoted), was the testiest I have seen him.

The powers-that-be no longer want Watts as the face of the MFC and the centre of attention as the club seeks to re-brand itself - and Watts' poster-boy status extending back into our dark past, while not the reason for our failure, is symbolic of it.

Snowflakes are alive and well.

I am sorry to see Jack go but I can see valid reasons for his exit. So be it.

We have ousted Watts at what some may consider unders and included Lever at what some consider overs. That discussion is now irrelevant .

Goodwin has clearly set the bar.

However, the "snowflakes" will certainly turn to nastily pointy icicles if team success  does not follow.

For mine we must make the finals next year but not just fall in. We must win at least one and demonstrate we are serious improvers/contenders.

Because we traded Jack Watts.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
