Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't want Jack to leave. Absolutely love him. I'm sure many posters can put forward plausible, well founded arguments for Jack and the clubs to part ways ...and I'm not saying they're wrong. It may be a good move for club and player. But I'll miss him if he moves on. For all his faults (which are relentlessly scrutinized), I have no doubt he loves the club. So I'm hoping for a miracle...

RtG you will have to ask Goodwin he is pparently the only one who knows the problem with Jackie boy

Yawn yawn yawn who cares ?

the world moves on and so does the MFC

I  normally consider myself to be fairly hard hearted about underperforming players, but your post is hugely disrespectful to a bloke who loves the club as much as the supporters do, and is loved by the playing group.

He may have had an underwhelming career with us, and justifiably be on his way out the door, but let us at least show some class about it.

But you said the players weren't happy, texting each other etc - I just asked whether you knew that for a fact or were just spitballing. Not having a go mate, I think you're a good poster and don't want to get involved in a [censored] for tat.

I love this club. My loyalty is absolutely to it, not Jack Watts.

I'm very worried about the terms of this trade. And the genesis of it. Doesn't really make sense to me.

That's it.

not much choice after the way this game has been played.

To say it was amateur is a gross understatement.

Remind me never to ask the MFC list management team to negotiate on my behalf.

Explain to us how else you can do it

I for one have lost any respect i might have had for him

Roos soft managed him back into the club in 2015

Just a complete waste in my opinion

You and the othe biscuitdunkers have  a different opinion. So be it

And if he loves the club as much as you say wahy doesnt he have a go? 9 years bye bye Jack

this is becoming more of a farce by the hour...

why am I not surprised anymore by the MFC.

By the way... anyone remember Woewodin who we traded to Collingwood and then part paid his salary while he became a valuable cog in their Grand Final Team.

We are the team that keeps giving !!

And yes... we were paying W way too much based on his Brownlow year in 2000

Shane Woewodin played for collingwood from 2003-2005, collingwood won the premiership in 2010. Not sure the link can be made between him playing in 2005 and them winning in 2010.

I am happy to see the club make a move on Jack, as he has certainly failed to make the most of his ability for us. He could have been, but couldn't bother to be, great.

We will convert him into a draft pick that will bring a new player into the club, and I trust that Jason Taylor can identify the characteristics that will make successful players out of those draftees.

I just think bagging him in that way is unnecessary venting, that is better left for your own living room.

So your saying he played a valuable cog in them loosing a grand final?

He did the same for us in 2000.

Um, it takes a fair side to make a grand final. A vital cog in that team is a decent player. I think that's the take-home message here.

That's what the recruiting officer in all clubs hope. It is a huge gamble to bring in a late pick for an established and creative player. Even if the kid has great potential, he is not going to help us rise up the ladder next year. It takes time and a lot of us are sick of hearing of success in the far, far future. We want success next season but it just ain't going to happen if we are one experienced player down.

If he ends up staying, we might as well create a sub forum for Jack. Do doubt there'll be a 100 page thread on how his pre-season is going and critiquing his daily decisions like doing bicep curls rather than Romanian deadlifts in the weights room.

My take on it is the coaches have decided that he is not part of our forward planning, and as such, his experience is irrelevant

A handy pick can be packaged with another handy pick, for a good pick. All clubs need to turn over the list. Might be turned into an experienced player who plays the role that Watts played, but the way the coaches expect.

I wrote the following 5 years ago.  I'm not sure who I wrote it to, but I've archived the odd comment over the years for ease of repeating it as necessary.

I expect Watts to put his body on the line and he simply doesn't.  My point about others being quality talls at 21 shows that the age excuse wears thin.  James Frawley was AA at 21, likewise Jack Riewodt.  Neitz was an AA backman at 20.  All of these players committed their body to the contest.  How was Tom McDonald last year as a 19 year old when he finished top 5 in the B&F ?  Did he put his body on the line ?  He's shorter than Watts and hardly a behemoth, but he mans talls.  Watts doesn't.

This is a massive year for Watts.  If in his fifth year he still doesn't use AFL intensity he's in a world of trouble.

I don't mind if Watts drops an easy chest mark, I don't mind if he makes an errant kick, or three, I don't mind if a handball goes astray, and I'll even put up with the odd slipped tackle.  But I won't tolerate a player that gives half dedicated efforts when he's required to attack a contest with physicality.  Or when a player doesn't commit to spoil or mark in an aerial contest, because it exposes his body.  They are the reasons that I don't rate Watts and doubt I ever will.  And his age has nothing to do with it.  Go and watch Nathan Fyfe, or Jeremy Cameron play.

If he starts attacking contests and putting his body on the line I'll be the first to acknowledge it.  I expect tumbleweeds.

He did improve his intensity, but not to great levels, which is why he's been inconsistent.

That said, the game has changed a lot since I wrote the above.  And it has changed in a way that has suited Jack.  He doesn't need to improve much to be a very handy player.

It's his fault it will be elsewhere.

Who are you thinking might be the experienced player to take Jacks place. We are not doing as well as Port and other clubs in our trading are we?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
