Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I’ve had doubts from start on this but have warmed to the trade last week now for sure.  What id love to know from those posters who say the club hasn’t handled it wel is this.  How would you have done it any better?   Before end of season   Right on trade week or now    I’m hindsighht now and time will play this out further but I think they’ve handled it well and good timing for both parties

The point is not so much the timing, it's how they have aired the dirt in the press. Regardless of whether he should be kept / traded,  a loyal and long time player at the club deserved to be treated better on the way out publicly. The public can be told a different story to the message being conveyed via the FD & LG.. Very poorly handled.

Peter Jackson also gone MIA.  The fish rots at the head guys.  And there's not an old Demon bone amongst the lot, other than one Mr Todd Viney.  Care factor!!???

The irony is that if he does leave, he most likely will start to train harder and do those "extras" and finally become the player we always hoped he would be...

How else do you fill your time in Adelaide? Certainly no Alberton Polo to attend

I don't want many old Demons near that fish head. None of them had success...

More telling was the chorus of supporters cheers for Jack. Blinded by his 'great guy' status over his years of mediocrity.

Maybe those supporters were thanking Jack for being loyal to the footy club over nine years where he was subject to arguably the most inept administration and leadership in the modern era and a football department that was often divided, under-resourced and incompetent.  And maybe they recognize that perhaps we are the prime reason Jack didn't fully realise his talents with us.

Maybe they were saying thanks for sticking by us when we wanted you to stay despite having offers at much better clubs at greater remuneration.

Maybe they recognize that he didn't make the best of his talent when he was with us but was still clearly best 22 and gave us some great moments and very good games.

Perhaps they are not so childish to vent their disappointment that he failed to live up to the messiah status that was sold to ignorant supporters by a CEO who was desperate to find someone to take the focus off his and the club's failures.

Maybe Jack is a great guy.  Maybe they recognized that he's run his time at this club and were both thanking him for what we've forced him to endure over nine years and wishing him the best for the future.

I don't know if you're one of the ones potting Tex for his comments about Jake Lever leaving but those supporters who are potting Jack at every opportunity to justify the clubs decision to move him on and to vent their own anger at Jack for letting them down make Tex look like a diplomat.

I find your comments ignorant, intolerant, and without any understanding of the complex issues that are clearly being played out very publicly.

We are viewing something that is quite sad and reflects poorly on our Club.  And yet you are dancing on Jack's grave and criticising supporters who aren't.  Go figure.

It found its way on to the list due to a few of your fellow posters flinging it at each other left right and centre.  It really was giving admin the irrits and censoring it definitely blunted the behaviour of it, and required less administrative intervention than banning people.

I do agree that we should be able to [censored] dead horses on here though.

I actually prefer to see demeaning words like 'f l o g' kept on the list but your average expletive permitted - would be nice to see 'spud' added to the list as well.

I'm with you mostly here, except this bit is simply untrue. Nathan Jones' success is the oft-cited example that places some blame at the feet of the individuals who have failed to get the most out of themselves at the MFC.

Some players push their professionalism constantly and others coast or at the very least put in less.

Yep, I recall that too. Was 10th after round 8.

Rnd 9 - did nothing

Rnd 10 - big second half and got >20 possessions

Rnd 12 - QBD

Rnd 13 - 3 goals and dominant forward until injured

Lots of perhaps and maybes.

If you wish to refuse to acknowledge that Watts has only brought one good season out of nine, then you are just another supporter accepting of mediocrity.

Go figure?

I have just risen from a dusty night at the the Bluey. I will tell you this 'Landers....Watts is 100 per cent out the door. Don't be emotional...he is a good bloke..liked by all..but he has been pi=1ss poor with his preparation and is a lazy person off-field. This confirms my own thoughts and the exact thoughts and info I posted here, long before GNF's update yesterday. W

Jack's undoing was the trip to Byron...which I posted about at the time and so many fellow posters dismiswsed this as ' footballers have to  have others interests'....complete crap-ola .. he was doing his own thing, without MFC knowledge or approval. f.....k that. we have god ppl at the club now and good players who are busting their arse to perform. Watts isn't in this category.

In other news..Hogan is still on the darts and still a rude pr!!ck

Weideman is clearly behind so many players from his draft - just google the list, there are too many players to mention. In fact, you need look no further than the MFC. Clayton Oliver was from his draft. Charlie Curnow makes him look like a teenager.

Even though the same latitude has never been extended to Jack Watts (who was unfavourably compared with Nik Nat from day one), I am loathe to do this with Weideman.

Why? Because it lacks a proper appreciation of his development curve and it would be unfair to do so. I think he has enormous potential and I have high hopes for him.

But, as compared with say Charlie Curnow, I have to say his performance thus far has been a bit underwhelming. I'm not slitting my wrists about it though, nor am I putting the slipper into him.

Because I am rational. And fair and reasonable.

If Weideman is getting placed 21st in the B&F in his 9th year I hope we trade him too.

One thing for certain out of all of this is that even after he's traded, I still sense a Jack Watts thread will still be active on the forum discussing his performance. He's not like Howe, or Frawley etc. Melbourne supporters who are fans of JW will still take keen interest in his career.

That's fine, but what about the last four years when none of that has been an issue but Watts continues to not prepare properly and not perform as expected?

Have a feeling Weideman (without Watts) might become even more of a whipping boy next year.

He's certainly got some talent, but has to learn the game at the highest level a little more. I want to see him work on his leading patterns. He misjudges the flight of the ball far too much for my liking.

But he's a young developing tall, who may well have a good future. We measure him harshly against the likes of Jesse, who is a freak given what he's managed in such a short time in the game.

Aaaaaanyway, tangential. Jack has done his dash at the MFC. We should thank him for his services and wish him luck for the next chapter.

MFC have been working/shopping the Watts trade this morning.

MFC have inquired about Zac Jones Plus pick or player in exchange for Watts. Although this was not outright rejected by Sydney, Sydney indicated this was unlikely. Zac is a required player.

Could we try Watts plus a 2nd rounder for Z Jones? Jones has pace and mongrel and would fit in perfectly with our young list IMO

You're not sitting on the fence, you just recognise the complexity of the situation.

It's possible to appreciate Jack's loyalty through terrible times, feel appreciative of the good footy he has played and feel some attachment to him, AND think that if he is consistently still not reaching the standards required of a player of his standing, then he should probably go. The two positions aren't mutually exclusive.

As always though, most people want to see things in black and white.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
