Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There was a post before about how honest posters were making reasonable points either side.

This is not one of those.

Remember Colin Sylvia? Cale Morton? They were blokes who supposedly were going to show us how bad our culture was by going interstate to ‘real clubs’.

The ones we did let go and went on to thrive were blokes who were given no guarantees and were taken low in the draft (Jeremy Howe and Stef Martin). Jack sadly doesn’t follow their trajectory.

If he leaves, he is a wait and see prospect at best. Do they get round 1 2016 vs. GWS Jack Watts or round 19 vs North Jack Watts?

Come on mate.  I ooze reason.

This is disgusting!!!

Watts didn't set the world on fire but he was very good in some games before his injury and was one of the only players who can remotely hold his head up after the Collingwood game in round 23, if our players could hit a 20m pass he would've had 3-4 goals.

If Goodwin wants to trade him and he doesn't want to go, fine, we resigned him last year!! Treat an honest club servant with respect.

If we think we can trade him then talk him up in public! We have hurt his value with what both our captain and coach have come out and said. He is a valuable player which is why some clubs at the pointy end this year want him.

Im disgusted by our club in this. If you hurt  our reputation in terms of treating players fairly we will get bitten in the long run.

Wattsy could still be good for us next year. We have burnt his trade value and burnt his loyalty and love for the club in public, this is Goodwins first major mistep and he needs to get it together quickly.

The Club expects a player to honour his contract , yet railroads publicly a currently contracted player. I just cannot understand the logic of throwing the Southern Stand at a 4th year player who was not, has not been an AA and getting rid of someone who the selection panel have picked to play for MFC over 160 times.

What happens when Lever wants to go somewhere else, then we will see what loyalty there is.

If they are then they need a good hard look at themselves.

It was "player power" that led to 186.

The inmates do not run the asylum. If they don't like that then they can ask for a trade to the Gold Coast.

Go Goody.

Go Demons.

Good on Jack if he does. The shame would be that it took such an almighty kick in the pants for him to do it.

With all due respect players do run the asylum these days. If you want to keep a good team together you need them to stay for loyalty to the club/team as there will almost always be more money elsewhere. As for him playing better due to the kick in the pants. Surely the kick has been delivered and if he still wants to stay then he can play improved footy for us not our competitor.

Also gave the impression that the market is nowhere near what MFC are looking for in terms of compensation.

You'd love to be a fly on the wall of the club at this time of year wouldn't you? I have genuine curiosity on a few matters, ie:

Is this just some genius, yet high wire ploy to get the best out of Jack, never actually intending to trade him?

How spooked were the club by the allegations Hogan was unhappy with the situation, and was meeting with Freo royalty?

Further from the above, are the club now walking back having faced a near death experience?

How much has the club been talking to Jack behind the scenes?

So many questions!

P.S. Absolutely wouldn't surprise me to hear in the next couple of days that he has recommitted to the club, having had a few emotional sherbets with Goody at the B&F.

Martin and Watts are the same age. One is now a Brownlow & Norm Smith medalist, the other is still being chided over his lack of professionalism. The penny dropped for Martin years ago, how many chances do you think Watts should get before the club has had enough?

You "guarantee" many key players are [censored] off - do you "know" this or is this just conjecture?

Martin has been coddled to the point of living with key football admin staff, having the club stand between him and the media and being fiercely protective of him and helping him to avoid the media at all costs.

Our club throws Jack to the wolves as our scapegoat every time something goes mildly wrong including publicly before this season even started.

If anything you have made my point, if MFC looked after Jack the way RFC looked after Martin maybe pennies would have dropped for him also? He played pretty bloody well in 2016 with Roo’s support and he played some bloody good footy this year also in spite of having a coach choosing him as the target.

I’m not going to betray anyone so you can call bs but I have heard it from a friend of the players that they aren’t happy with how this is being handled. There’s a reason Paul Connors directly aimed some of his statements about Lever’s salary and Watts leaving at Gawn at the function.

It’s obscene to compare Martin and Watts, they are so far apart.

In 9 years when we as a club were very poor Jack finished only twice in the top ten players in the B&F, players like Dean Terlich and Matt Jones polled above him some years...

But let’s compare him to Martin!

Its laughable.

Rubbish. If throwing a contract extension and throwing him up as a pinup boy and marketing tool is akin to throwing him to the wolves, well then every club does this for every player ever! Roos made an effort with positive reinforcement and it's clear that Watts is the catalyst of an unprofessional stench that continues to linger.

To rouse up trouble to get a few more players on his books for a future 5% fee?

What to make of this statement. All players with 24 hour minders become consistent stars? MFC are remiss for not giving Watts a 24 hour minder?

The results of the Martin experiment are only evident with hindsight, which will be the same with the Watts experiment, however it goes.

Some players or all players?

You simply can't compare Martin to Watts, it's fanciful. Martin had a 24/7 minder because otherwise he could have potentially gone down the Ben Cousins path. Jack's problem is he just doesn't get how hard he is expected and required to work. That's it. No minder is gonna fix that. He's got access to some of the best coaches and best facilities in the country. If that's not enough then he doesn't have it within himself to thrive.

Scapegoat, please.

Another quote from the great Ron that I read today;

Quote

Winners never blame anybody. It's only losers who try to blame other people for what went wrong. So never con yourself that your failures and your weaknesses are someone else's fault.

Can't recommend this book enough, the 40th anniversary issue just come out recently I think, pick it up and do yourself a favour.

NO Connors said those things as he knows Gawn agrees with him.

look you can disagree with me, maybe my judgement is clouded because Watts is one of my favourite players who I think is unfairly judged and maybe others judgement is clouded as they think he is not good enough and have always wanted him out.

To me this feels like trading out Junior MacDonald, a decision made for philosophical reasons which will hurt us on field next year. I think it’s a terrible idea. But if it happens and I am wrong I will be first to admit it. I just want what we all want, Demon success.

Also im not comparing Jack to Martin as a player I’m comparing the way their clubs have treated them. I think it’s a fair comparison, but who knows what will happen and yes it’s pure hindsight.

No question he can stay, if a trade that meets the clubs requirement isn't offered he will stay.  The advantage of having a contract, he needs to want to go and we need to compensation required to let him go.  If one or both of that doesn't happen he stays.  I think though it is a long shot that he will stay

I’ve read it. Players are different these days, some need a firm hand others need to be looked after. They’re not all the same and a good coach won’t use a one size fits all approach. I think what has been shown is that Jack responds better to support and his performance reviews being kept out of the media ala Roos, he does not respond well to macho bravado ala Neeld. I hoped Simon would see this and try harder to get the best out of Jack. I have no doubt Longmire or Hinkley will.

all that aside all we have done is hurt his trade value, which if we actually want to trade him is not good management.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
