Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

im so glad goody is making the decisions and not 70% of the fans here.

the amount of stick i've got over the years from mates who go for other teams over watts is finally coming to an end

Great reason to want him gone - he embarrasses you with your friends!    I think you should stick to the reasons you've relied on earlier  DrD- they at least make sense even to those who disagree with your conclusions.

Since JW was drafted and the next big thing.

The only news around Melbourne was JW.

Apart from an 18 month interlude of MN antics.

Since then JW talk has overpowered everything at the club.

What has the club achieved since the Great JW arrived?

Every other player has bust a gut to get a game, he has been gifted games when anyone else would have been dropped.

Nine years is enough. I thought 2016 was a turning point. 2017 set him back 5 years.

Good Bye Jack. You are a very polite man. But you are not the 6'5" KPF we were expecting.

Hilarious! You Brighton bozo's are the biggest clique in Melbourne. Jones too honest for you ol' boy? Beelzebub and Watts - 'til trade do us part! (And even then not really).

This is just an amazing thread. I find the depth and breadth of criticism of Watts fascinating. How is it that some DLers seem to have a level of spitefulness towards Watts (certainly visible in the words that they write) that to me is virtually a hatred of Watts. Not just a dissatisfaction.

Is it only me that wonders what it takes to be the kind of person that does that?

Maybe Oscar Wilde's comment on it contains some level of truth:

Criticism is the only reliable form of autobiography" indicating that it tells us more about the psychology of the critic than the people he or she is criticising.

Hows that for a psychological assessment? Free of charge. I'd suggest some of you particularly spiteful contributors get some help!

Hahahahahahaha.

And, I wonder if the snipers would have so much bravado if they were face to face with him. On their own. Pretty sure I know the answer to that.

The  fact that we are 120 pages of discussion, much of it hysterical and based on little is telling.

About whether  to keep or trade an outside flanker.

It says a lot about us as a supporter group.

Anxious, fearful, neurotic.

This is not how good clubs operate.

We also have 140 pages about trading in an intercept defender

An intercept defender who made the AA squad as a 21 year old and just played in a Grand Final.

How was Watts going at age 21 lol

I'd be thinking that was contingent on the playing group and coaches that he didn't actually choose to surround himself by...

This one has been going a month.

The other has been going for 5 months.

The last 100 pages since the end of August actually.  Anyway, irrelevant how long its been going on, like I said, one about your "outside flanker" and one about an intercept defender.  Both  (threads) as polarising and intriguing as the other

it's not a decision Picket!!!

It's a test of faith similar to Abraham in the Bible.

Similar to putting choo-choo on the cross!!

Completely agree that JW has overpowered everything at the club - I would add the first couple years of Roos as an interlude.

However, your 'investment bias' is coming through with the mention of the '6'5 KPF we were expecting.' I realised a few years ago that that was never going to happen, and a role player was all I was expecting - which is what made 2016 and the first half of this season a realisation.

I do hope that the club gets what it wants out of this decision - whether that be a new fervour of professionalism, a message headed on commitment, or simply an asset to flip into something that helps us on a way to our flag.

I find the political references to the 'trade Watts' and 'retain Watts' camps to be absolutely absurd.

My attitude to this issue stems from a player and list management perspective. It's a rational view, and is not based on 'feelings'.

That said, I have an emotional attachment to this club, and, to the extent that I think the club is exercising poor judgement or making a bad decision, it will have an emotional impact on me as well.

The amount of paint by numbers, binary, inflexible 'logic' that is apparent on this thread is incredible.

Clubs are about people. Some here seem to think this stuff is like playing Madden NFL on X-Box. I expect every successful senior coach will tell them otherwise.

Simply put ....if a player is put up for trade and clubs especially Sydney and Geelong perk up. I would take the player off the table.

It seems as though it is going to happen. On face value I don't like it at all, but I simply have to put out faith into the club and hopefully we look back in 5 years and this might be a turning point.

I would think the fact the coach and captain are putting him on the table at the same time as denigrating his worth means he will not be traded.

That's the last serious input I will have on the matter as it has gone beyond farce.

That and of itself is one thing, that Jack may move on, that he should move on or that he may need to move on  etc.

Its another thing to keep pushing the barrow ( at any opportunity ) and reveal your colours. Some would say they are pure Red and Blue.  Some might say the very same for Jack Watts

Hey beelzebub, the Jones clique you refer to would be the leadership group for which he is the spokesperson

Yeah well just as a gut feel, This decision will come back to bite us BIG TIME!

Exactly. When you read what rival coaches say about Watts in PRAISE it makes one think that Goodwin is letting his personal feelings towards Jack outweigh logic  by offloading a polished, proven finisher.  These coaches that are in charge of teams that make FINALS footy say they would like Jack in their team. A star like Dangerfield  also would like Jack in his team.  Down the slippery slide next season just as we were on the up. Very depressing. Another year wasted.

Paul Roos made the same comments about Lumumba ... I rest my case ... its part of the draft baiting process

Very interesting comments.

After reading the site for just a few weeks there is no doubt we have some long-time posters on here with serious psychological issues. Some think long-tenure is a badge of honor but it might just be a sign of lunacy.

However, on the whole the site is amusing and the vast majority of posters appear to have a source - the newspapers or afl.com.au.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
