Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm actually very upset that jack Watts is I this position - loves the club who failed him - we have a Johnny come lately coaching group who failed us ( supporters ) again this year and are removing one our most loyal talented players who they can't coach well enough to get his best ( Roos says keep him ) and I would rather sack about 40 others including some coaches before Jack - he was in our best in the last game - tucked in Gawns absence and is our best kick into 50 and for goal - I won't what they want for him but it will need to be a massive player to equal our loss - sick of bad decisions - platinum member who has already rejoined for next year bu wish I hadn't . Upset to say the least. George on the outer a comment would be appropriate thanks !

youre talking about 1 game? he has been an average player over his 8 years. He has been inconsistent in his good form but his poor second efforts (and poor first efforts) have been consistent to a point where our expectations of watts are so low

I'm also hearing rumors that it's Nathan Jones who wants Watts out. I wonder how crazy this can get?

Do you think that's based on the whack he gave in the media, or something more substantial?

Several players ?  Who ?

Nathan Jones' comments were along those lines, what other player/s ???

If it was true, then the media criticism would be just the tip of the iceberg you'd think.

Goodwin for Hinkley would have been a nice deal.

You'd think that would have to be the whole leadership group.

Last time i checked we had 5 in there and I'm pretty sure NJ isnt operating alone

From Paul Roos:

You can't always harp on people's weaknesses. That's the problem that certainly existed before I got to Melbourne," he said.

"Every player has got weaknesses. Wattsy responded when you talk about his positiives – he's an elite kick, he's an elite decision maker, he's a very good player.

So... the guy who taught Goodwin how to coach, who rebuilt this club, and extracted the best year out of Watts is telling him not to trade him. Hmm, I know who I'd listen to.

Remind me who brought in Heretier and gave up an inconsistent but supremely talented flanker in Jeremy Howe?

Just saw a report and interview on 7.

No doubt in my mind that he's gone.

It's just a question of what the details are.

Saw that too, his comment about football clubs being "brutal at times" confirmed it for me too....sadly

I don't think Roos anointed Goodwin as his successor because he thought he'd be his clone.  Pretty sure he was after someone that had a clear vision and an idea how to achieve it.

I didn't hear any criticism from Roos in that interview of either Goodwin or the club if they trade Jack.  All his comments were prefaced with if it was him he wouldn't do it, but he's not in a position to know.  He clearly loves Jack, but he also commented on outsiders second guessing clubs when they didn't have all the facts.

Some of the comments in this thread are genuinely unbelievable.

Despite our improvement, we have an undeniable issue with consistency and application. And its been an issue for years. It was an issue when we were improving under Bailey, it was an issue under Roos, and by God it was an issue this year.

The one thing we cannot do is do nothing about this.

But when we try something, we turn on the coach. Threaten petitions. Threaten to not renew memberships. FFS people!!!

If this trade doesnt work, so be it. But at least we tried. And then we can try something else.

I've never bought into the whole melbourne supporters accept mediocrity thing, but by the way so many here are pining over a player who after 8 years is not even a star, let alone a supetstar, maybe there is something to it.

If it's true that 4 clubs are interested then that can drive up the value of his trade value.  Assuming that he is gone,  I hope the club can make the best of the situation.

Clubs have previously gone after players who have played well against them so the Pies could be a player.  Buckley is getting a good return out of Howe and they like to get the ball quickly to the outside ... Port & Geelong the same.

The strange bit is that we're in dire need of some skilled,  speedy,  outside players.  That is one of the next steps in the teams development.

I would have kept him for that reason ... we're right on the cusp of being able to use him properly.  Losing Gawn & Hogan for a lot of the year and with Weideman not coming on,  we had to use Watts in roles that he's not suited for.

Who have Port got that we would be interested in? Pittard?

Watts is a 9th year talented yet flakey flanker who we chose not to play this year  on two seperate occasions due to lack of buy in on required effort and ethic on and off the field. How some can show such hysteria at our want to move him on have obviously forgotten what it felt like missing out in the last round. Any player who is not 100% buying in to do everything necessary on and off the field can get out in my opinion and Watts is the poster boy for it. I am sure what we get (likely a second round pick) people will say is unders but it is right based on his career output and likely output moving forward. The best we can hope for is many clubs decide he is the answer to drive up his value. I will hold to see the overall picture of ins and outs before I hold a view on whether we have improved our list and chance to take the next step and more importantly the ones after it to make it to the last game in September.

Yep this nails it for me, if he is not 100% on board then he needs to move on that goes for any player on the list, for too long we have had a culture of players doing what they wanted, didn’t they once cancel a training session under Bailey, I am backing goody all the way on this decision it sends a clear message 100% effort or the door is that way doesn’t matter who you are, and the petition that is doing the rounds on Facebook is cringeworthy

Can people stop equating 'Watts being traded' to 'The Demons no longer tolerate inconsistency'?

Again, Watts rocked up in 'The Most Important Game in a Decade' - and that isn't an argument to keep him - it is an argument to say that the undertone of 'if we get rid of Watts we will get rid of the problem' is absolute nonsense.

It is another irony that his last act is to be the scapegoat once again for this club when that ire should be reserved for others in the eyes of many supporters.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
