Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So if Watts goes that's another number 1 pic who walks out the door along with god knows how many other top 25 pics over the yrs.

How diff could it have been if we could have developed these players properly.

Goodwin and Co better know what the hell they r doing.

God this footy club makes it hard to continually support them.

If the situation is that we are allowing a player to continue to eke a living out of the club without the appropriate consistent level of application can we afford to keep him on the list?

If the club is trading him to set higher standards then I support it.

I'd like this:

In: Wines, Lever, Menzel (FA)

Out: Watts, Pick 10

Every Melbourne supporter would like that. It's laughable.

After Jones confirmed last week that Watts is one of those players that doesn't sacrifice enough and live football 24/7, I think Pick 29 is right. Clearly he's a 27 year old that is just happy being an AFL player.

Hopefully a couple of clubs get into a bidding war and we do a bit better than that but I think he's a mid to late 2nd rounder now.

I'd then go and get Menzel for nothing and you replace Watts with a like-for-like and bank a pick 29 to get you back into the top 30 of the draft, or use in trades.

One of the darkest periods of the MFC resulted in burning a bucket load of early picks, either through picking he wrong players & definitely poor development/culture, but thats the past!

Current regime need to make tough decisions to improve the list & bring in players who can play the intensity required to not only play but win finals inc a flag. On current form since 2014 they have continued to increase wins & improve our list. If it means Watts going to get Lever its worth it as you need to give something up to get something. Question is can Watts improve anymore vs what improvement Lever can.

@AkumMy brother is friends with a really close friend of Jack. Said that Jack has been told a Port trade is possibly in play.

I know I know, he said she said but was just wondering what a trade to PA would look like.

Your brother might be right.

Yes and no. Watts might go but it has nothing to do with getting Lever.

Wholl kick that winning goal after the siren in the GF now I wonder.

If he goes , and of itself well thats just footy, but it was always supposed to be about betterment.

Some folk will be wringing hands in glee. I think it a tad sad. Hope this club knows what it's doing.

Hehe, what if he kicks the winning goal after the siren in a GF, against us!!!

Oh, the unbearable irony.

What's the bet when he plays against us next season he will be bog.

U could easily see that happening.

The post match discussion should be a treat.

If he does go I wish him nothing but the best, he's endured enough even though some might say from his own doing.

With our team getting better over the last couple of seasons we saw some really good footy from Jack and some splendid efforts.

Like BB stated, that's footy but still sad to see him go.

Reading a lot of differing opinions on here. I have been told this from someone on inside a month or so back, that may help why it has come to this.....

When we had T.Mac up in forward line with Pedo, or Watts, or Hogan, etc. it was a commonly held opinion at selection that the forward line lacked the finals like, locked down pressure. T.Mac was a big culprit. It placed pressure on the others to do the heavy lifting of providing such pressure. This is where Jack was really exposed. McCartney believes that Jack doesn’t have ‘finals mindset’ in the way he goes about his business. He also was a big advocate in NOT bringing  him back for the final game against Collingwood. Hence, from mid year, there were many discussions about Jack, and would he be a liability come finals. This negative talk about him didn’t help that his form had gone down.

From a personal view, he will be a very good player in a very good team. Staying could see him at that elite level. But it’s clear the coaching panel have no confidence in him and this has really got through to him now. The major concern has to be, how he return to the club last pre season. He was content with a good year, previous. That attitude is not that of a great player and It’s time for everyone to part ways.

Lastly, we can’t demand too much in the way of a trade. His an average to good player. If we get a 2nd rounder and a player, that would be a plus in my book. Anything better would highway robbery!

Most of what you say makes a lot of sense. Except imo the part about Watts being a very good player in a very good team. Yes, we all know he can be a great user of the footy. But that alone just does not cut it in modern day footy. – Lets look at two of the most recent "very good sides" .. Western Bulldogs last year & Richmond this year.. What do they both have in common? Effort !!!! Run, manic pressure, tackling, 2nd / 3rd and 4th efforts, contest after contest. No player that does not give 100%, no weak links. That is why Watts would NOT be great for either of these sides. It is the recipe for a successful side and he is not the right ingredient. That's why we need to move him on, and get whatever we can for him.

That a fair point you make. But my opinion is based on the fact that our midfield WILL become elite in the next couple of seasons and the ball going forward will be more frequent and effective. Hence, making its easier for players like him.

We all sat here furious that we missed finals. I'm still furious about it. [censored] Richmond are in the bloody GF!

Anyways, a big part of why we missed out on finals is we got too content, too lazy, we lacked that killer instincts. Yes this is definitely not exclusively the fault of Watts, but gees he is a perfect example of a player who doesn't care enough. He isn't alone, but for 10 years we've struggled to get him to apply himself, and as a senior player now, that sort of not quite right attitude seeps thru the playing group if not handled correctly.

I have always been a Watts supporter and defender, but if we sit here bemoaning our lack of results and our dismal round 23 capitulation, and yet we do nothing to rid the club of those who don't put in enough, then how can we expect to move forward?

As supporters we need to stop feeling personally victimized by players being moved on and accept that sometimes 10 years and 7 coaching regimes fighting to better a player's attitude is long enough.

I don't doubt they will be elite. As is GWS midfield. But for 2 years straight they have lost the prelim to two sides who don't have as much talent .. but what they do have are 22 blokes that give everything for 120min. I don't want one skillful individual who is not prepared to be on the same page as 21 other guys. Agree with me or not.. Watts has been on our list long enough now to know that he just will never bring the required effort to make a grand final – and WIN it!

Can’t disagree with that rationale. You’re on the money here.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
