Yes, an interesting comment.  He said he knew it was a long year for the team to sustain our brand of football and from round 15 (vs Sydney) inconsistent performances increased (more losses and on average bigger losses).

One wonders why, if he knew it was going to be difficult to sustain the game style for the whole year, he didn't amend aspects of it during the year or when it became obvious at round 15, especially with the level of injuries and a grueling fixture.

I think he knows he missed a trick there somewhere.  He has learnt a lot about himself this year and will be do a fair amount of soul searching.

Was this a case of the opposition working us out and we had no plan B or C?

Were our players cooked after that 4 week horror stretch in the middle of the year?

Injuries to key personnel hence no opportunity to rest more players throughout the year?

Will this current list win us a flag? If no, throw the kitchen sink at Lever, Gaff and anyone they think will get us there.

Seems everyone at the club has a long hard road ahead this summer.

Trade period might tell us a bit about where this journey will go. 

Well that is about time our whole midfield was out, the game vs Carlton a full strength side would of won by 4 goals and not 8 points then we play finals, playing the crows in Darwin with viney, Jones, Tyson, watts, so many players out it was our worst loss, we might of still lost but maybe by 20 odd points, if so we play finals, I think these 2 games shaped our season.

Yes but with a full strength side the win would of been more, remember we only missed out by 2 goals.  round 23 was Collingwood Grand Final just like Queen's birthday that was there 2 grand finals.

From the board to the coaches to the playing group we will all be better off for it.. I do hope so, fk I hope so. I was ok with it but now hearing all the flogs in the office talking about Rich, Crows and those stinking [censored] Dons all playing finals this week I'm not ok with the end of the season.

Terribly Melb finish and it had better make a difference to these guys moving fwd. No more cheap losses. Finals, deep into finals  for this group moving fwd no matter what.

You would hope so, if not, this year's miserable end will have been for nought. From seeing both Jones and Gawn, and now hearing from Goodwin, does seem to have put a rocket under them.

The thing that jumped out to me in what he said mirrored something I've felt for a while, and that's the very real consequences of suspensions and injuries "which made the continuity of our playing list inconsistent". The long-term benefit of playing week in, week out with the same team in the same configuration can't be underestimated. Hopefully next year we can have a more settled side, and everything that goes with it.

I think watching the Bombers and West Coke will really hurt him personally knowing we blew many chances and probably got ahead of ourselves. A wiser man will learn from this and be better for the experience and hopefully Goody will ensure future opportunities are not wasted. Given its his 1st year I will forgive him this time.

Goodwin also stated in an earlier video that the aim is to play finals and have an impact, not sneak in and go out in the first week. That the coaching staff thought we struggled at the end and his earlier statement suggest that he is not content to just make the finals but go deep in the finals.

We weren't good enough this year and that is reflected in our ladder position. Losses to Roos X 2, hawks, freo prove that.

People are kidding themselves beliving we lost a finals spot due to missteps during the early and middle/late part of season. Those misstep cost us a higher ladder postition and consolidation in the eight. We really blew it in the last two rounds as in 2016. The finals spot was there for the taking. F**king weak chokers.

"Linear Improvement" isn't just measured by wins and loses, but in game style development, the implementation of the 18 man defensive zone, individual player development, increased individual flexibility within the squad, team cohesion and increased ability to hit KPIs and key stats. 

We've improved on all levels if we're analysing the team that played under Goody and were in every game up until Round 15 before tiring. Particularly, if you compare it with the team that was coached by Roosy in 2016. Clear improvement outside of merely winning two more games. We dominated most opposition for long passages of play unlike we had, not since the mid 2000s under Daniher.

Upon reflection we had a really exciting season. I thought we'd make finals and in most years, 12 wins and a percentage of over 105 will get you there. Not to be this year though. But I predicted 10 wins in 2016 and 12-13 wins in 2017. Next year I think we'll be capable of 14 or so. Iron out some of those consistencies, strengthen the squad, diversify the game plan and game style, and we're not far off.

We have to keep evolving though as a coaching group and ensure our game style remains ahead of the curve. Given the incremental improvement over the last 4 years, it seems we have the right group to continue our evolution.

Round 15 he says we started to dive sound about right to me it was certainly not long after the bye. 

I don't know if it was mental fatigue, hubris, or injuries catching up. But I think even statistically we started to implode around this time. 

There is something very definite to work on there and should be a main focus for preseason. 

Let's make sure we don't repeat this failure again.

Coincidentally when Viney and Jones went down? When Gawn came back in? Supporters won't want to hear it but we truly were cruelled by injuries this year compared to the run we had in 2016. That doesn't excuse round 23 of course but it does give some reasoning why we were in that position in the first place.
