Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sarcasm meter not working mo?

I was joking, showing how even with a sh-t side we were 5 goals up on the Tigers and two players were off early, our replacement ruck and replacement forward. We only lost to them because we ran out of legs as you would expect.

We were 3 and a bit goals up at 3 quarter time, but I guess that's not really your point.

Image result for why not both

shuey just signed a new four year deal so we're next to no shot

if the rumours are true and gaff is available...then we gotta get him

pick 10 - lever
2018 1st rounder + kent - gaff
4th round 2017 - harley balic

and the latter is basically adding a homesick player who showed that at underage level he can get a fair bit of the football (although i don't trust his disposal skills) - wouldn't even think he'd be in our best 25 tbh

B: Jetta - Frost - Lever
HB: Hunt - O Mac - Hibberd
C: Gaff - Jones - Lewis
HF: Petracca - T Mac - Melksham
F: Watts - Hogan - Garlett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/C: Salem - Tyson - Hannan - Vince
Emerg: Brayshaw - Pedersen - Maynard

i am still uncertain as to whether we can play t mac, watts, hogan and pedo in the same forward line, but i definitely want t mac forward of the ball in 2018 - we looked better for mine for his presence forward

watts best form was as a floating forward relieving ruck - he has to get his fitness right to play that role

i have faith that frost can command a spot in the back 7 (where a rotation of lewis, salem, and vince / brayshaw can play that 'floating' defender to accompany the other six)

sigh...gaff and lever really help our side

fingers crossed.........

I gotta say, looking at that back 6 on paper, that looks so much more solid than it did at the start of 2017. I can trust Jetta, Hunt, Hibberd and Lever. They wouldn't lose too many contests. The more football Omac plays, the more I'll be able to trust him. Frost is the one that I hope can also build that trust. But 4 from 6 guys that are brilliant one-on-one/third-man-up gets you close in another tight season I reckon.

It's that forwardline that doesn't do a lot for me and the midfield is still a little shallow. But if Hogan gets a better run of it and TMac kicks as straight as he did this season, then the forwardline is less of a problem. While the natural improvement of Oliver, Viney, Petracca, Salem, Brayshaw, Maynard and Tyson could make our midfield good enough. Adding to the run of Hunt, Frost and Hibberd would also give us more outlets to improve the speed of our ball movement with their line-breaking ability and support run-and-carry.

Surely, they'd laugh at us. Kent won't make it and I've said as much for years.

I think our best chance is to get him in FA next year but there's two big variables at play here.

1) It's still up in the air as to how long the FA compensation rule will be in place so the Eagles might see that as an acceptable strategy or;

2) They let him go now and get what they can in trade with us.

The Eagles are old and slow and to be fair they've probably exceeded their own expectations by winning last nights final. Gaff won't be hanging around through their next rebuild. He'll be at the end of his career by the time the Eagles are next approaching a window.

It comes back to the fact that when players nominate their destination club, they usually land there. Who would've thought pick 14 was sufficient value for Tom Mitchell to Hawthorn?

I think we've got enough moves in us to land Gaff and Lever this year and if we do, look out!

I've never seen the star quality in Kent that many have seen over the years.  He is however the type of player that a lot of clubs would believe they could get the best out of.

We wouldn't get much for him, but there'd be suitors IMHO.

Who ever said Kent had 'star quality'?

You guys are down on Kent. I believe he offers a lot of upside. He always looks dangerous to me. Fitness levels are an obvious concern but I believe he offers the kind of talent Stu Dew delivered.

Many, many people 2014-16.

Last year the media had him earmarked for a breakout season and the Paul Chapman comparisons have been following him since day one.  It's not a knock on anyone who did, he's shown glimpses but has been unable to follow through.

Countless comparisons to Paul Chapman, with a handful of Boomer Harveys and a young Dane Swan.

After watching him last night I would love to have him but you would have to send one of Jetta or Gartlett with a reasonable to WC which is tough one. Kent would be lucky to attract pick 70 ATM.

I hope the only Jetta ever involved in a trade for us, is Lewis Jetta on the wing receiving a rebound pass from his cuz (In red and blue)

Weagles have an issue with their list in that Priddis, Butler, Petrie and Mitchell all retire and Le Cras is 31 Hurn and Kennedy already turned 30. That is 7 high quality players to replace this yaer and next. One of the oldest lists in the game and Gaff leaves next year as a FA. He has more currency this year in a trade and he wants to return home where next year the compensation is based on his contract terms.

Roos always said that if he would consider trading a player out in the last year of his contract rather than go to free agency.

Think we have to wait a year for Gaff, we should fix our defensive issues first and set a target of 14 wins in 2018, then we make a play for Gaff as a FA. Unless this year WC make us an offer we cant refuse but that is highly unlikely.

It does make sense to be patient for one more year and pick him up for nothing as a free agent and hold on to our first rounder in a bumper draft. He would help us make finals next year but not more. By 2019 we'll be serious top 4 or more and he would be real icing on the cake especially for nothing.

I think, if we make a play for him, this will be the crux of our argument. GI've him to us slightly cheaper, or we'll take him for nothing next year (although they will get compo)

They get compo but we give up nothing. I guess the main stinger for us in this argument is they don't know if compo will still be around and also compo is a risky business. You never really know what you are going to get.

Exactly. Provided we offer something reasonable, it may be in there best interests.

However, trading out one of your younger guns when you are losing the likes of Priddis, Mitchell etc may not be.

But if he says he's going to leave next year anyway then they should get on with it. Although if I was them, losing all those players this season I'd probably want him for the transition next year even if he left after that. Also as a RFA they could always match our offer and force us to trade anyway. As in Crows with Dangerfield. I reckon you get around that by offering something they can't match. Crows were lucky Danger went to Cats on quite a low $ contract compared to what he was worth on the open market.

And I suppose our salary cap position will determine how much we can bump the contract offer up as well. There was talk we are working on a long term deal for Maxy to get him off the FA market, and that'll eat up a bit of it.

In the next couple of seasons it shouldn't be a problem but in about 3 years we are going to have to pay top $$ to Clarry and Trac, maybe Brayshaw by then. Plus obviously Jesse and Max will be on big coin now. Plus add in Lever. So we are going to have a pleasant salary cap management issue in a few years. But should be able next year to front end Gaff to solve RTA matching  if necessary.

Gaff is the player I hope Stretch would become - Stretch's year didn't promote that idea though.

I agree that FA in 2018 would be the ideal way to get Gaff but if there's any chance this year then we should be prepared to pay the price.

Definitely must keep our first and second round draft picks. In recent times, we gave up Pick 2 (Josh Kelly) and a later pick (which eventually turned out to be Rory Lobb), for Dom Tyson and Pick 9 (Christian Salem), and then later on, Pick 24 (Matt Crouch) for Bernie Vince.

It's a high risk strategy that we needed to do at that time because we had won just 2 games the previous year and simply had to improve by getting players with some experience into our Club, but now, we need to keep our first and second round picks for ourselves. We are not in the premiership window yet, but it will evolve.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
