Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

May not even be any more compo by this time next year.

The time is nigh for tempting Gaff home

there again, afl compo for fa's might be here to stay (but might be different formula)

i doubt they'd just scratch it so there was no compo to former club

I definitely could have missed something but this suggests they should still be looking at a decent pick depending on where they finish.

Think thats old info - you can blame the Vickery fiasco last year. AFL felt the clubs were all being under-handed and manipulating the system.

Any chance we're going to surprise by making a move on Andrew?

I think he becomes a restricted FA next year, so now might be the time for WCE to try to get full value for him if he wants to come home.

Perhaps that's why we hurried the Lever deal through, and are trying to get a decent draft pick for JW.

I caught him hovering around Scarborough beach the other night as families were eating their fish and chips while watching the sunset. Wanted to say hello but he was making some horrible noises and [censored] everywhere.

Pretty sure he'd be at the Saints if the Eagles were to trade him as they'd be looking at a top 10 pick.

However, he'd have to be a very high priority FA if he doesn't extend between now and end of next season and you would think we'd be in with a good chance considering the fish and chips are much nicer in Victoria.

100% on AFL agenda to remove all compensation picks.

Would love for someone to explain to me why the AFL would be getting rid of compo picks.

Can you imagine how decimated Gold Coasts list will be when its good players make it to free agency?

Bloody horrendous.

I think we’ll find out next year when Tom Lynch, as a free agent, rejects a better deal with GC17 (plus $1m ‘marketing money’ per season) to go Collingwood

I just can't get my head around it.

What could possibly be the reason to not compensate clubs for losing their stars? Makes no sense at all to me.

Also makes it much harder for the supposed "basket case" clubs such as the Suns/Lions, and even us of a few years back to remain competitive.

Mind boggling.

Because some clubs put mate-ship and manipulation ahead of honest and fairness. Remove the picks removes the problem.

Free agency without the quid pro quo of players being able to be traded without their say so whilst under contract renders the free agency concept far too one sided

Contract or no contract you cant send them where they dont want to go. Put yourself in their shoes for one second - now think about what you just said.

In US sports is basically the club own the players and can do what they want to better the club's prospects - until the player qualifies and the tables turn.

We are seeing quasi free agency if you are good enough (see Lever who got his cash and club of choice) as well as true free agency.

Clubs are getting their list building strategies compromised by this.

Because it is accepted in the US, the players expect to potentially move at the drop of a hat until they qualify for free agency.

Do we support the club, or the (well compensated) players who can always quit and get a regular job if they really hate the prospect of being traded.

I would prefer genuine power to the clubs so they can execute their strategies with confidence.

It surprises me no one has asked him to build a tank

Maybe that's the problem...Let's be honest the 3rd tall is dead in modern footy (well 2017).

It's all about speed and pressure on the flanks and pockets. Watts doesn't have elite speed but he's not slow, and if he had a tank on a wing.... I would be excited

Most supporters of a club would.

I'm happy with the player having the rights to play where and for whom they want to play for.

Then you can execute your strategies with confidence if you look after your players and treat them with respect.

Andrew Gaff - AA, WC Best and Fairest winner, 4th in Brownlow.  Yeah just like Jack Watts who nearly finished 4th once in MFC B&F but just missed out.

I'd give draftees 3 or 4 year deals and allow them to be traded at will. If you aren't ready for the draft don't go in it. If you are then be prepared to move around a bit whilst you establish yourself.

Maybe throw in a franchise year for a 5th year for a one off 700k payment. After that players become restricted free agents and can move to their club of choice if another club satisfies their original club with draft compensation equal to contract value.

Then once a player has done 6-8 years they are true free agents open to move at will with the only compensation being end of 3rd round picks for clubs who lose more free agents than they sign.

The trade period would be replaced by free agency and restricted free agency in October. Out of contract players like Lever (restricted) and Motlop (unrestricted) would be moving frequently.

Actual trades for contracted players would be open all summer.

I never said they were the same player Fifty 5, All I'm saying is the potential is there.

On that principle we should trade Weid for Josh Kennedy if we just want a better player without developing our own

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
