Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Whispering Jack is usually in charge of that. I think he's still trying to come up with a clever name for it. We're in the process of trying to recall our premature creation of a finals board that was created for our members. Too soon?

Whitfield is a lock for the hawks. He's a melbourne boy and will ask for a trade to the hawks in the next month.

It will be interesting to see how they get that done?

They've got no picks to play with. Would have to trade established players.

I would hope we are staying in the frame for Whitfield if he wants a trade back to Vic.

Wouldn't be a bad couple of years for the Hawks, would it.

Motlop is a talent and ultimately if all it costs is salary then I think he is worth bringing in, absolutely

Don't be seduced by talent. Sylvia had talent. Players like Motlop are a cancer in a club. They will let you down when it matters because they don't put in 100% of the time. We have enough problems with players opting when to put effort in.

Effort is 100% not negotiable. That's why players like Kent are doomed. Motlop is the last thing we need.

Would be a damn shame if we failed to land Kelly or Whitfield

A real damn shame.

1) Lever

2) An outside mid.  But the outside mid must be consistent and with high percentage efficiency disposal skills. We swept in and picked up a forward in Hannan who has very good goal sense and came at a bargain price - I wonder if there is a youngish outside mid in VFL or a premier rural league who we can swoop on? There don't seem to be many floating around in the AFL who can't get a game at their own club.

a)Motlop - I oooh and aaah at him on the TV screen - about 3 times a year! No thanks.

      b) Whitfield - definite consideration

What on Earth do the Hawks have to offer?

They must be thinking 1 or 2 of their most experienced players will be looking for a pension cheque, and a final flag with the Giants.

[censored] the Hawks.

We'll get Lever, most likely. We'll lose a few off the list.

We'd be very very very lucky to anyone else other the a FA or Rfa.

We have little currency to trade. Just saying.

All need to lower the eyes ;)

I'm still nervous, only cos I think Collingwood needs a player like Lever even more than us, and they are very keen also.  Hopeful that we get him, but it's not over the line methinks

At last someone is making sense. I am glad I read this post before replying to earlier ones about Motlop. Motlop is the laziest softkok in afl football. Itwould be a disgrace to see him in a Melbourne jumper.

For what it is worth Lever will be the only good player we could recruit. If not then try thr draft.

My ideal (realistic) trade scenario would be as follows:

Trade One:

We send pick 10 & Jack Watts to Carlton for Pick 4 & a 2nd round pick.

Trade Two:

We trade Pick 4 and a 2nd round pick to GWS for Josh Kelly.

Trade Three:

We trade 2018 first round pick to Adelaide for Lever

Trade Four:

We send a 3rd round pick to Collingwood for Mason Cox

2018 team:

B: Jetta        OMac        Lever

HB: Hunt        TMac         Hibberd

C: Tyson      Oliver         Jones

HF: Trac         Hogan       Hannan

F: Cox          Weid          Garlett

R: Gawn      Kelly        Viney

Int: Lewis    Melk     Brayshaw    Salem

Depth: Pedo, Harmes, Bugg, Frost, JKH, ANB, Smith

That team is playing finals.

I like it all until you mentioned Mason Cox

They would have to trade one of Bruest, I Smith and 2nd rounder. Cant see the Hawks getting that done without a third party.

I rate him as a second ruck/tall forward. He's a good mark ad a good set shot.

We lack serious height i the forward line with most of our players about the 195cm mark.

Stats stats stats lies lies lies,  none of them make sense, in the beginning of the year  Champion Data rated  Collingwood the best midfield what a joke, we  averaged over 90 points a game,  Fremantle average 70 where are they moving the ball quickly? to there own goal line to the defensive 50 back to there own goal line back to the defensive 50 and back again to the goal line really quickly, there is only 1 stat that matters on the score board,  the biggest reason we dropped off in the second half of the year was simple, injuries there was a few games there when our whole midfield was out injured, our midfield is not one paced  it is not slow players like Brayshaw are quick,  Viney has a little bit of speed, Oliver is actually quick  when he gets going, its all myth, the media say we are slow and most just take their word for it,  it's more about urgency not speed and thinking quick.

100% agree with this.

I think a couple of things contributed to our poor finish.

1) The 3 x 6 day breaks in  row resulted in a number of injuries to key players as well as young players tiring.

2) The players coming back from injury struggled to get back to their best: Watts, Gawn, Salem, Jones, Viney & even Tyson to a lesser extent.

I still think a hard running outside midfielder is the key to our success moving forward though. Gaff and Whitfield are the two that come to mind. Pick up one of those two along with Lever and we will 100% play finals in 2018.

here's my view.. Stats of themselves are next to useless unless you provide context and pair/unite them with other stats to provide a larger picture with some meaning.

Fortunately for us the wise creators of this game foresaw this need and build such a meaningful construct.

it's called a SCOREBOARD  :D

The reason why we did not make the 8 is we lack the killer punch,  many times when we had the foot on the opposition throat we took it off,  we relaxed and let the opposition kick the last couple of goals example first round, even Queen's  birthday Collingwood kicked the last goal.

I would love Lever but I wouldn't go overboard in getting him if it meant struggling to keep our young players in the future.

I would love for us to have a go at getting Kelly or Whitfield but out of the two I reckon we'd be more likely to get Whitfield.
I'd be more annoyed if we didn't have a crack than not getting them.
We shall see what happens!

Assuming we do end up getting Lever and he is on 700-800k. Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Hibberd  and others if they perform will all be within there rights to ask for more than that and more and if they don't get it to walk. We could be setting a bad precedent which will cost us players in the future. As you can only pay a hand full of players at that rate and I would assume Gawn, Hogan and Jones would already be on that we might end up losing a few if they put the foot down.

keep in mind as we evaluate relative worth  , contracts, $ etc...the whole world of AFL currencies got revalued with the recent CBA.

What was isn't now. As players come up for renewals they new 'worth' will be recognised I'm sure

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
