Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is there a disconnect between supporters and the current crop of players.

I do not care about them personally, and could care less about the kind of people they are. If I see a Melbourne player walking down the street, I could not care less.  I dont care who you are or if you're a top bloke or if you volunteer outside of footy .

I would be happy with a team of psychopaths and murderers if they won games and we played finals every season.

Hmmmmm a team of Dustys in motorcycle colours

Would like to se that

A real answer      if the players or coaches knew the answer, the 1st quarter wouldn't have happened

Nerves, choking, expecting another team mate to lift, all of the above

This topic is, in my humble opinion, a joke, there is no disconnect, the players failed on this occasion Why? Who the [censored] knows

If supporters think our players are not trying to win that is a disconnect.

You know they are trying, I think they are trying but if others dont you have to respect their opinions.

Same as when Neeld was in charge, You Satyr just accepted whoever was in charge and took them at their word.

There are Answers to Saturday's debacle and it is paramount they are all exposed and purged from the club once and for all.

Fair point. But you are being a tad rough on Saty. Maybe, he takes the time out of his own day to go straight to the source to get his answers.

Membership is just a revenue source to the club.  That is all we are, and in turn we pay to be entertained.  Like a bad show you get no refund when the entertainment is bad.

Players have been removed from all supporters, this started when the AFL centralized home grounds.  As soon as the game is finished we have no where to go to interact with the players.

Players to their credit are involved in a number of community programs, but engaging members is limited.

I am sure Satyr believes what he is told, that is not always wise.

The MFC repeats its failings far more than any other club within the AFL.

Actions speak louder than words Saty, and for far too long our club has talked the talk but not walked the walk.

I am always out and about doing my thing Satyr. Words get hollow when this club disgraces itself at least once a year.

The players get paid regardless....

So what did you learn Saty? Aside from being disappointed do they feel they know where some answers lie?

I go back to something that I think Mark Neeld said.  There are too many players on our list who are happy just to be playing AFL.  They aren't willing to do the extra work to play finals because their personal goal has already been met.

And his solution to that was to take all the fun out of playing footy and apparently block the goal posts out of each player's mind

Surely some of our players were thinking about the extra 2 weeks they'd have to work. It's their job, they are getting paid either way, they were rewarded with longer holiday time to get away from such scrutiny

I wonder if they understand that performing well in finals is a really good way of getting paid a shiteload of money in your next contract.

I'm only guessing but I'm sure you could look at some of the following

- % growth in membership re-newed

- % growth in newbie/first time members

- % growth in membership upgrades

- % growth in lapsed/missed year members

- database maintenance, email open rates, response rates for functions

- quality of strategies to grow all brackets of memberships

- creation of new membership categories

- $ growth in membership contribution to club profits

Very happy to see club has also recognised the disconnect and the need to increase manpower in this vital area.

My friend knows someone who works at Melbourne and said that people working  at the club have received angry and abusive calls from members regarding the finals booklet in the mail and that there's a real bad vibe around that area of the club and has left workers in tears. Interesting to see the vibe next year.

Oh boo hoo....how tough for them, having to  take complaints. If they don't like it, move on, there are plenty of qualified people who could take up their jobs. Maybe some with a bit of passion. They should have been prepared for a backlash. Idiots

That is exceptionally sad.

It is not their job to be the 'voice' of the club at such a time.  The club should not put them in that position if they have not been trained in crisis management.  This was a crisis for which the whole club seems poorly equipped to deal with.

As to the vibe?  It sounds like the 'Veil of Negativity' that Roos said permeated the whole club has returned with a vengeance.  It certainly has with supporters.

Perhaps the club should have had the coaches and leadership team on the phones!

The 'veil of negativity' is the product of many years of being let down. We are as loyal as they come and we support the club always, but we are negative about the insipid amateur nature of our club at times and its soft underbelly. If we don't demand more and show the frustration, then the club will continue to believe that the mediocrity is acceptable. Its pessimism ...nothing more and we have every right to be pessimistic. Just when we were showing optimism, the players go and get comfortable and shatter the supporters. How else should we feel?

Im still trying to understand the topic of this thread. In some manner it suggests a failure . Of what ?

What IS the ' connect' between these parties supposed to be  ? The players connect to the team, the club.

We connect to the club. Where is the connection to players.

I find the supposition odd to tell you the truth.

Obviously it's different if we had won last week but there's not a lot of players that I feel I have a deep connection with and I think that's projected on how much I think they love the club.

Look at our round 23 team:

From another club: Vince, Lewis, Hibberd, Garlett, Tyson, Melksham even Pedersen

I loved Vince and he embraced the club but now he's kind of done. Pedersen is a fun journeyman who always speaks highly of the club. Hibberd is great to watch but is new. I'm learning to love Melky.

Nagging feeling he might leave: Hogan
Nagging feeling he deeply cares about the club but doesn't care about giving his all on field: Watts
Limited fan/media exposure: ANB, Harmes, Hannan, Salem
Disliked due to playing style: McDonald, T. McDonald, O.
Out of form: Gawn

That leaves me with: Jones, Jetta, Oliver, Brayshaw (limited games), Petracca, Hunt

Jones, Gawn, Watts and Viney are really the heartbeat of the playing group. They are the guys who connect most with fans. If they are out of the team or down on form it's a bit harder to get a strong emotional connection with a lot of the players. Guys like Hogan, Oliver and Petracca I love watching and I hope play for us for a long time and win games and become champions of the club, but we've just had too many young talents slip away.

Make some finals, win some finals, develop stars, lock in consistent players and there will be more love towards and from the players. And for that matter the same thing will occur with the coach.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
