Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My 3 word end of season player analysis

Surely Oliver gets a 9.5... pretty hard to fault his season.

Statistically the best ever 2nd year player, and without a doubt our most consistent performer this year averaging 30 disposals a game!

Definitely one of the highlights of the year.

Gawn my real lowlight. Yes he was injured, but gees he has stunk it up in the last few weeks when we really needed him!

Yep a dumb thought, Sylvia was an undisciplined bum that didn't care about his teammates, Petracca is the opposite

And just like Sylvia Petracca shows five minute bursts of greatness followed by nothing.

I hope it doesn't end the same way but I can't help but think it smells similar so far. I hope Trac doesn't end the same way, but I also thought Sylvia became lazy and wasn't lazy early in his career.

I love Petracca but I keep getting this in my head.

Petracca - our new Sylvia...

Pretty tough - Pet is hard at it and generally a great user of the ball, and far more dedicated than Col.

The only similarity could be that CP5 just needs to put in one good preseason then will star consistently.

And of course one big omission from our listed players for 2017

Lumumba -  all about H (again, still)

It's more in output than attitude. Sylvia was skilled but didn't produce regulary. I get the same feeling with Trac. And it worries me. I'm probably bring paranoid but it's a nagging little voice in my noggin.

Nice work although would say Jetta slowed towards the end but I remember him taking the game on with his quick sidestep and running away more than ever . And as you said Great smarts to know where to place himself defend first mentality.

He won't.  Petracca cares.

Petracca was truly gutted when the siren went.

Col would have gone and joked and laughed with Howe and Dunn.

Thanks Joe boy. I always look forward to these posts after each game.  I am wondering if you would consider taking this list above and then doing a prediction for the same time next year for each as to what you think might be scored for players then. e.g. although Brayshaw was a 4 above, I am hoping he'll be an 8.5 next year.  Just asking, no pressure to have a shot at this.

Thanks for the efforts this season.

Actual outcomes is where I'd rather do the evaluating

Missing games through injury or suspension affects the overall score.  Some players average score per game might be different but if a player doesn't play or is not available, he's of no real value.

I don't necessarily mean that as a criticism - it's more of a matter of fact analysis.

Jones - 6.5

Viney - 6

Hogan - 2.5

Salem - 4.5

Watts - 4.5

Petracca - 5.5

Lewis - 7

Trengove - 1

Brayshaw - 2.5

Gawn - 4

Tyson - 5.5

Oliver - 9

Hibberd - 8

Stretch - 1.5

Kent - 1

Frost - 5

Melksham - 5.5

Hannan - 3

Pedersen - 5

Vince - 5

Kennedy-Harris - 1.5

T.McDonald - 6.5

Weideman - 1.5

O.McDonald - 5.5

Hunt - 7

Neal-Bullen - 5.5

Bugg - 3

Spencer - 2

Garlett - 5

Jetta - 6.5

White - 1

Wagner - 2

Harmes - 3.5

For various reasons, the club could have expected a higher return (or in some cases, a much higher return) from Jones,  Viney,  Hogan,  Salem,  Watts,  Brayshaw,  Gawn,  Tyson & Vince.   If that had have happened, we may have even challenged for a top 4 spot.

Any club that wants to contend needs it's best players playing well in a large majority of the games.  And at least 12 - 14 of those 'best' players are needed.  And they have to be good players.

As an aside, the B & F numbers nearly always gives us a clear picture of the value of all the players.  Players that finish outside of at least the top 10-12 are generally not productive enough.

Some of the numbers that I've attached to the players are awfully low but it should be remembered that the score is for the actual outcome of each player for the entire season.

Gawn was brilliant until the injury. Never recovered his form post his return

Think the 3 is unfair for Hogan, he had a much better output than the other 3's, when he played.

I think TMcD year was his career best; still needs to bring his best to most of the games. Still only 24.

Petracca is still a developing player; and I would think calling him underperforming is being harsh.

Bugg was great early, his suspension really cost us. Melksham did do well in his position though.

Melksham did improve his accuracy by foot this season, so there is hope for Tyson.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
