Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The big surprise to me is that we haven't as yet delisted one or both of King and Filipovic.

Richmond showed us there's room for only one genuine ruckman and we already have a ready-made back-up in Pedo and two others - T-Mac and Weid - who could play there if required.

All are infinitely better than anything King has shown to date and Flipper did not endear me as a project player pre-season before injury.

If the club rates one of them long-term, fine keep one. But there's no no excuse to have two back-up dinosaurs on a list that already has the best dinosaur ruckman in the game.

Ruckman notoriously take longer to develop. Those who have played very little football even longer. Flip was recruited less than 12 months ago as a rookie and has not had the opportunity to play one game yet. He has just turned 19 and you think he should be delisted?

WOW!!

Weideman wasn't eligible for F/S as his old man Mark didn't play enough games. And Murray is his grandfather.

Incorrect

He wasn’t eligible for father-son, and if had been, they would’ve snapped him up, plus Murray was the 1958 skipper at the Pies and his grandfather - the story is pretty well known, can’t believe you could get this one so wrong

Kelly, at the Crows, was overlooked as a father-son, as was Stewart ex-GW$, now at the Peptides

I’m disappointed that Kennedy failed to come on - his underage football was electric

Shame about Kennedy, still thought he had something to offer and had improvement left in him, in his senior games last year I thought he held his own and found it odd they didn’t give him a look in this year despite his form in the vfl.

Kennedy - Gone

Spencer - Gone

Kent - said to be gone.

JKH - one year contract renewal just before suspension.

Not sure any of them were in our future plans but they certainly didn't help their cause.

I reckon Trade week has become a blood sport, vultures sitting in the stands waiting for another of our players to fall and gleefully gloating when the axe comes down.

Some on here want 10 to 15 players gone,

I know it's the current trend but how can you sign up for 2 or 3 year contract and then be traded 1 year in?   What's the point of a contract?

We missed the finals by a bee's you know what, you would think that we didn't win a game all year the way some are talking

Any way, tuning out for trade weeks (months)

Suspect this all is part of a phased build to the club.  We have come from being complete rabble only a couple of seasons ago.  We had so much to fix, and there was only so many of the list we could realistically turn over (including available talent to bring in relative to what we needed).

Last year we traded in experience and leadership, and added some talent in a few key spots.  We were so lacking in defence that had to be fixed first.  We were crap around the contest, and this has been addressed.  We were light on on-field leadership and that was addressed.  Next is 4 quarter effort, midfield to forward connections and clean ball movement.

I feel we are now at the point of setting the ‘not negotiables’ for team culture, and filling the holes we have in the list.  Lever will definitely enhance our backline, and may help free up other resources up the field.  We are developing outside runners, but may need to bring some in.  We are light on with small forwards, and may have to do something there.

It seems that the FD have a clear idea of what is not acceptable, and these are being moved out.  We cant do it all at once, and need to make choices that include both the list, and the TEAM.  Interesting, if Jack wants to stay, I imagine he will be clear on what will be required or he will be Caseys Best and Fairest next year.  The focus has therefore shifted from ‘players we need’ to ‘the club we need’.  Quietly, I am very happy with this.  No one player is bigger than the club.

I find it interesting that BenKen was only cut now - is this because they were holding onto him subject on knowing they had something better lined up?

With the ‘pizz-up’ 4 now gone/going and JW under the pump, who is next??

Kennedy gone, excellent. Average player with below average workrate. I'm just thankful we only gave him a two year contract.

Hopefully there are still more delistings to come - there are plenty of suitable candidates.

It still annoys me that people take such great delight in players being delisted. It seems unnecessarily spiteful to me.

It was obvious to everyone that Kennedy would be delisted. You can't play zero games at his age when fully fit and expect to survive. There's no need to dance on his grave.

I am surprised that Kennedy was not in the first list of delistings. Did the club have other plans to assist him get to his club of choice or was he going to be aprt of a trade? I doubt he had much currency. Sounds like he doesn't expect to be picked up by any AFL club, hence his quote he will now get a nose ring.

Filipovic was recruited on advisement from Max Gawn who had been coaching and mentoring him and thought he showed enough to be rookied. Mitch KIng was coming off a knee reco and had an interupted pre season and late start, small steps and needs time.

I was surprised too. Why the gap in announcements particularly when the writing appeared to be on the wall with zero senior games despite no serious injuries?

Delisting makes the player a free agent, so that facilitates a player to get where they want. I seem to recall due to the delisted free agent signing window timings, trading a player for a nothing pick can mean the player can get training with their new club more quickly. So it can be seen as doing your former player and receiving club a favour by trading instead of delisting.

I suspect there had been some luke warm interest in him during the year from another club, but that interest turned cold between the initial delisting announcement and Kennedy's announcement. Or maybe Kennedy was not contactable at the time of the original delistings so they decided to wait to deliver the message in person out of respect prior to making it public?

Why does there need to be a rush to delist players anyway, who knows what certain clubs want players in a trade.

I think there's an element of "do the right thing" by giving players certainty over their future (or lack of future) so they have more time to lobby hard to get another chance elsewhere, or start on the next phase of their life ASAP.

From a selfish club perspective only, sure you'd wait until the last possible moment to delist a player but that means they're in limbo and potentially stressing out longer.

I also think the delist candidates are only likely to attract throw away draft picks, so there's not a loss of genuine trade value.

So Maynard now to A grade rookie

likely get

Lever: Crows for #10 and 1st rd 2018 pick AND Dees get #18 and Lever

Balic for pick 45

Watts to PA for pick 29 ????

Joel Smith upgraded

means picks 18 & 29 & 63 and no rookie spots

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
