Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Unleash the Drafts and Trading board.

I am ready for a pile of unsubstantiated rumors and the inevitable 'big fish' that never eventuates.

That's pretty much the only joy we have in September as Dees fans

All well and good to bring up McKay, but I don't rate him and think he will be a bust as well. I was responding to a poster who said he was developing nicely. I don't think anyone thinks McKay is developing nicely.

Curnow and Weideman played the same amount of footy in the two years prior to the draft.

Hipwood played because there is no one else? That makes it more impressive, we gifted Weideman games this year and he didn't produce.

I expect him to show qualities that will make a good AFL player, I have not seen these. Some believe they have but I doubt the same people would be saying they have if he was drafted at pick 66.

For years everyone on here banged on about letting players come through Casey in the right way. In fact if you go back to the preseason best 22 thread most said they wanted Pedo to start and let weid develop at Casey. If he had been forced to play every game would be best more developed, of course, but would that be the best for him?

His work rate, in particular in the Adelaide and saints games was fantastic for a developing tall, as he gets stronger he'll also be able to put the contested marking he's shown at Casey on show. That's what people are seeing, if you can't that's fine.

He should never have returned to the seniors late in the season. I, amongst many other posters made comments along these lines following his VFL game against Box Hill. The fact is he didn't earn his spot and the FD were gifting him games despite all the crap they talk about with players earning games based on form. Same thing happened prior to his debut last year.

It was so good he ended up with 6 and 10 possessions.

I don't enjoy getting stuck into our players, especially young ones who didn't choose to be drafted where they were, but if I have to go through a whole off season reading about Weideman developing nicely.....

I can't help but call a spade a spade. People talk about Weideman developing into a good player as a fait accompli.

It will be a major bonus if he makes it based on what he has shown so far.

Spud??? Weideman gets both hands and on the ball in marking contests at VFL and AFL level when he isn't disadvantaged by the delivery,  just needs the confidence to hold onto them. Building his strength will allow him to provide a better contest when out of position. His work rate is great, and from what I've heard he gets it.

he has no pace or fitness, to be a good key forward today you need athleticism, look at Franklin brown reiwoldt and daniher

Whilst I understand the outrage and wanting to delist left right and centre, if you delist a player under contract you are paying that contract and another in 2018  - thus essentially making pick 111 the highest paid draftee.

below are our out of contract players. Kennedy isn't one of them. OMac isn't either. I think we can all agree that Vince probably will be offered another contract no matter how we feel.

Spencer has been told he'll get another year if he doesn't get an offer he likes elsewhere (Scoop McLure I believe).

I think trade bait might be a better thread title than delisting as it'd be over very quickly

We've traded out and even delisted contracted players before ... for instance, Gysberts,  Martin & Morton were all traded out in the one off-season (whilst under contract) and we paid out Michael Evans as well, in another off-season.

He may never be a Reiwolt or Daniher type. But Kennedy isn't lightning quick and doesn't have massive vertical jump, same with Patton, Lynch, Walker or Hawkins. We need to remember all them bar maybe Reiwolt have struggled at times early in their careers.

Kennedy is pretty quick.. all of those forwards you've mentioned are far quicker than weed

Surely, Vince hangs up the boots? An absolute butcher these days. Not to mention regularly exposed for a lack of pace. He's a liability playing back there and not a smart clearance player in the midfield.

I'd be keeping Stretch and Wagner, while also looking for a trade for Kent.

Vince can stay another year, just needs to be prepared to play some VFL when out of form or when someone younger can take his place. Becomes more of a depth player and can educate at Casey

That list is not up to date.  Go to this thread for all contracts:

I think why people defend him, is that using the logic of needing to come in and dominate from the word go, you'd never have seen Gawn, Hunt, ANB, Pedersen, Hibberd or Jetta ever make it, and that's just from our current list. I acknowledge that he's not there yet, and he may never get to become the player we want him to be, but like so many others I'm not prepared to cast away a guy who coming to us was always going to take time to develop. No one's saying its a fait accompli that he'll make it, just that he has actually shown some signs that he's got a good chance if he continue's developing at the same rate. In fact you raised Hipwood and if you compare their first 10 games their stats are pretty similar, Hipwood had a few more goals but they mainly came from 2 games where he got a couple of cheap over the top ones, Weid has a lot more tackles which shows me he's prepared to be involved in the game even if not yet taking the big marks or kicking the goals you want. Hipwood then came on very nicely this year and that's what I'd hope Weid can start to do next year.

If the conversation is still happening this time next year then I'd be worried, but a tall coming to the end of his second season having spent his draft year virtually out of the game should be looked at in the same light as some others who've taken longer to come on.

To be delisted :

Modern game sucks the way pace is almost everything.

Lumumba (he is still considered on the list)

Trengove - Fantastic bloke and a born leader but as we saw against Roos, his speed is too big an issue.

Hulett - Lovely kick but just not quick enough to impose and does not possess the huge leap to make him a marking threat.

White - As with Hulett.

Kent - West Coast had a real deficiency in small forwards and I'd be amazed if they haven't enquired. On his day he's a real talent. I can imagine we should be able to get WC's second rounder (Pick 29) for him. Or as part of a three-way trade to acquire Freo's Matt Taberner.

Spencer, Filipovic and King - No side can afford to have three dinosaur style ruckman as back-ups and as we saw when Gawn was out, Pedo or T-Mac can do the job to varying degrees if required. Acquiring Taberner would give us a third option in that area as well as give us another forward option. Personally I'd look at delisting two of those three assuming we acquire Taberner or similar.

Upgrades on to the list for Maynard and Smith.

That leaves five spots with two of them rookies - Bull Smith and Keilty are other rookies.

Obviously Lever is one of them and clearly we will need to give them our No.1 pick and maybe it will be necessary to send JKH to Carlton as part of a three-way trade for Gibbs. ie: Adelaide get Gibbs and Blues pick 34. Carlton gets JKH and our pick 10, Dees get Lever.

Not sure if this has already been said but I recall (I think it was RPFC) a wise person talking about the problem with delisting contracted players.  What it does is send a message to the team and the greater football community that MFC does not value or honour its contracts.  This is disaster for club culture as well as player morale.

A few days on from .5% I think a bit more reflection is needed.

For what it is worth and in spite of what is being written I believe that our list is in much better shape than agrieved posters have been saying over the past 3 days.

I would be surprised if we delist more than the 4 mentioned above.

someone said no way will trade Hogan. The Hawks supporters thought that with Franklin only to win 3 premierships. No one would have thought that the crows would become the minor premiers when Dangerfield left. You have trade someone decent to get what you want.

if we got the right offer he would be traded, it would be irresponsible not to consider any trade that benefits the club.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
