Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Someone mentioned in another thread the idea of Col Garland being retained on the coaching panel.  Dunno if they had inside knowledge, but it's just been announced that Col has been appointed as the Player Development Coach of the women's team.  Well done, Col!

I can't see Spencer being offered a 3 year contract anywhere else but I guess stranger things have happened.

He's a depth ruckman at best...

If it can happen to Witts...

About 4 years younger and a few good games AFL level though 'Dappa'...

At 24 he's right in the zone, like him or not they have some development time left with him.

I think with Jake he will be hoping for another year with us and that might see him out.

Not a lot of games but a pretty well paid job that will set him up nicely.

A lot of people confusing end of year delistings, with player trades.

Spencil for example, I can't see any way he would be delisted, but I can see him leaving to seek opportunities elsewhere, or being traded.

Delisted..off-our-listed....

Understand different but think the majority might just view it as who's not here ...later on...for whatever.

Serious question re Hulett .....have you actually seen much of him at VFL ?

Has always looked a good build on the track

It may be so at this point of time that King is below par when comparisons are made to Spencer, yet Spencer won't see daylight (seniors) if Gawn is fully fit. King is seven years younger than Spencer which acts in his favour.Besides Spencer may not want to be a shadow ruckman and that's all he will be. If KIng can overcome his injuries he will be good for the club. I still stick to my statement Spencer to be traded.

I've seen Hulett often.  He's a good mark and a very good kick particularly for goal. I think Biff's assessment of skills is wrong but his assessment is probably right.  I'm doubtful he'll make it but don't think he's delist material yet.

So have I, Hulett is another who hasn't had a clean run at it yet,  and out of necessity had to play as a defender for couple of games

Last week against Coburg he played his role and a good solid game and got kudos from Plapp for doing so

Not sure which bit some supporters don't get, we have the luxury now of allowing players to develop over time

Last week also Casey had no ruckman for 3/4 of the game, so had to throw the Weed in, he didn't disgrace himself so may have given the coaches a bit of food for thought, also Keilty is being built properly as well and can play ruck, defender or forward

For what it is worth we only have to delist 2, Lumumbas spot wasn't filled, I sadly think at this stage one will be Trengove and the other possibly BenKen

Think maybe Col Garland will give it away to concentrate on coaching

Also on that, with young Pat McKenna out long term, they have him working with the Casey coaches on match day to make sure injury doesn't mean a stall in development

We may well do things properly now but that doesn't change the fact that not all players that are signed to a list, stay on that list.

Speculating on who will make it or not is part of being a supporter and is welcome discussion on a forum like this.

I agree with Biff. I don't think there's a future for Hullett at the MFC based on what I've seen of him, regardless of his development.

He doesn't possess anything we're crying out for attribute-wise. He is just a solid foot-soldier.

Hulett looks like a suburban footballer. Could dominate a game due to his superior phsical prowess, but as you say, I don't see anything in his game that translates to AFL level. Another Leigh Williams in my opinion.

Probably good for Spencer . I remember when Jolly was traded ! Very good for Jolly . Two premierships in his career after being moved on in a trade !

Spencer is a free agent...he can go wherever he wants.

He's a RFA. We have the option to match or better any offer he may (will probably) receive. I doubt we would.

No he's not: http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-free-agents-2017-official-list-of-restricted-unrestricted-free-agents-revealed/news-story/25cf1a373d6626218a613c490f03003b

I hope that we can keep him, but I suspect he'll get a better offer from elsewhere.

Yeah, I was wrong. I was thinking of the old rule (the '8 and 10 year business'). There's clubs screaming out for an experienced ruckman, and Spencer is handy around the ground.

Jake will want to try his hand elsewhere I would think, and you can hardly blame him. I wondering if the fact that the Weid was given a short run in the ruck at Casey last week means anything, partic. with King, Tim Smith, Keilty, and Huelett on the ground at the time.

The Weid did some ruck work at TAC level, but needs a solid pre-season or two in the gym for whatever spot he plays.

A couple quick questions Saty if I may;

Why do you say Hullet has had to play as a defender for Casey 'out of necessity'? Have they had holes back there or it is it a Roos-Fitzpatrick style move as a last ditch effort?

And what is it about Benken specifically that makes you think he may be delisted? Something you've picked up on around the boys or just a hunch with non-selection etc?

I'm all for that. I like spencer in the list. It didn't work cos of shocking luck for us, but if we went into next year even with a fully fit gawn, we need a good backup, and spence is low cost. Every club needs someone like him. He'll be on afl lists and oddly... have a full career, even if he doesn't play much footy. A bit like backup qbs in the NFL.

A lack of tall defenders for a couple of weeks at Casey meant Hulett played there, it probably aided his development

BenKen is behind Garlett, JKH, ANB and I think Dion Johnstone in FD thinking

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
