Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Two things from yesterday will haunt me all summer.

1. What attributed to that horrid start yesterday? Players weren't mentally on? If no, why the F%#K not?

2. If yes, what kind of a plan did the coaches come up with all week to allow that friggin club to have 11 scoring shots on us in the first quarter?

I won't go as far back as early in the season to lament cause I'm officially drained right now because  there was an opportunity yesterday regardless of close encounters earlier and we screwed it up good and proper.

I'm not worried at all. Not even a little bit. I was shattered after the second Roos loss cos that was the proof we're on a hiding to nothing this year. I would have preferred to get a final into the kids, but that's negligible.

The big picture here is the core list. We need a KP defender in the off season, and we're getting one. Or at least doing everything we can to get one. Aside from that, the core is well and truly there. Our only pressing concerns in coming years will be replacing Vince, Jones and Jordie who will all age out. Aside from that we can only improve.

It'll fall on deaf ears, but we can't possibly go backwards next year. We were smashed by injury all year. And we were never going to win one in 2017 anyway, so this sad time on demonland would have come at some point in the next few weeks anyway.

All's well folks. We/re looking good.

I'm concerned we are overpaying lever based on the offers being reported.

I'd put tom McDonald, dom Tyson and Christian Salem and jack watts on the trade table. The first two can't kick. And the later two aren't ruthless enough.

We need to put serious work into the mentally fragile minds at the club. If you can't bring basic effort week to week and beat bottom sides we'll go absolutely nowhere.

2017 is officially a failure and we have no one to blame but ourselves

id say yes to tom mcdonald but tyson ia just depth and salem isn't soft

Club will find Sponsorships and trades harder to negotiate than they might have been after this weekend.

Take the players out behind the back shed and give them all the cat-o-9-tails. Goody can have a few as well. Any coach who ignores history deserves a flogging too.

FU MFC. Have a [censored] off season with my best regards.

And playing finals would have made us just that much more of a destination club rather than one of the losers back in the middle of the road.

I like the gist of what you say. Yes, we were slaughtered injury wise but there is so much more work to do, especially with disposal.

Too often this club just does not cut the mustard!  We shot ourselves in both feet.  Everyone knows the deficiencies, now is the time to fix those for once and all.  It has to burn inside their guts everyday until the last round of 2018. This epic fail must mean something finally for this club who are mired with failure!

Off to put my mind on anything but football, don't give a naff about finals and won't watch.

Yep those are givens too. I think the hardest part though is getting the players there in the first place. And we've done that.

Playing group have caused destruction for the future in final round in so many ways.

Feel so sorry for those running the club and developing the brand.

Next year has just  been made so much more difficult.

Absolutely no sympathy with the playing group. It was a truly shameful effort from all of them.

On the one hand, I was happy with 12 wins. Its an improvement.

I was upset by Jesses [censored] run of luck, [censored] .

I was very disappointed that after all our hard work....we lost to Norf, scraped in against the suns when a good win would have seen us make finals and after, that just not turning up to play pies.

The absence of tackling and pressure in the first quarter of that game was classic Dees of old. They just didn't try...didn't care and didn't give a stuff. Was a sad finish for me.

To be in such a position and not give a toss simply undid all our improvement and as such the year was a bust.

Have held out supporting watts for eons and was excited about his improvement last year. His season this year has seen most people now over him. Wish him the best but not really fussed if he leaves.

Gawn had a shocker of a season and we need someone to replace him so he can be dropped for his poor efforts. Vince is finished. Lewis not far behind.

Too many almosts on our list for me like JKH, Trengrove, White ,Kent and Kennedy to name a few.Weid needs a kick up the arse.

Unlike Salem...it would be great to have some players who are just plain consistent like Jetta.

That's my 2 cents. A good season that went bloody bad

See I really don't like the idea of next year being an all or nothing year. Making it this year and breaking that stupid drought whilst getting a final into the guys made logical improvement sense. Then next year we could have looked to the season with renewed vision and perspective. Instead we'll just be chasing the Moby Dick again and dealing with all the crap that comes with it.

Ladies and gentlemen, your new Richmond Footy Club.

Couldn't agree more, Dappa.

I think more will come to realise this in the coming few months when the anger fades a little.  The fact we were in a position to play finals, when you consider we had Hogan and Gawn out for long periods, had Jones and Viney also miss extensive time, had to throw around players in different positions to fill the gaps and also deal with (very silly) suspensions from others, means we had done very, very well to be in the positions we were in.

Doesn't excuse the fact that we should have made it from where we were, but the future still bodes very well.  You'll get smashed for your post, but it doesn't make it any less relevant.

The year in review:

The Melbourne Football Club had a good start to the year.

Unfortunately the players don't really care that much as long as they collect their pay cheques.

So they lost to Fremantle, Richmond and North Melbourne.

Then they got worse in the last few weeks, losing to North again and putting in poor performances against other teams.

The culture at MFC is a loser culture and has been for 53 years.

All players at MFC have been judged by the public and the media to be younger than all other players and inexperienced for 50 years even though that was the composition of all MFC premiership teams in the 1950s-60s.

The usual excuses about youth, injuries, inexperience will now now reemerge.

The here is no excuse now.

The MFC blew it.

Blow this.

I would players and coaches to apologise to supporters!

Often when clubs put in shocking performances they apologise to their fans and supporters.  Has anyone heard an apology from our players/coaches in recent years?

As someone said in another thread, we buy memberships, merchandising, go to games stick with the club thru thick and thin and endure the humiliation directed at us.

Well its time they new we existed and stop taking us for granted.

Hopefully I wasn't confusing but I was agreeing with you. The difference between making it and not can be a real game changer for landing potential free agents.

We have some issues don't we.

unlike other teams this year around this, we never seemed to have a game style that could create consistent football - it always seemed too rushed and hectic.

defensively we are a sieve....too easy for teams to blast through the middle as our positioning and structure often leads gaps.

in attack, we are simply too naive....we don't know how to play against a team when they have an extra man back, and we never give enough options for kicks...it goes too deep too often.

we have plus points, but we've been scratchy since the break and don't deserve to be in the 8.

we need extra Key Defender, another mid, another ruck and a medium forward

Big offseason as I reckon next year is going to be even more of an even keel in the comp. hawks, Pies, North, St Kilda will be better you'd think

To me it is not just that we missed finals that gutts me, it is the way we missed.

Absolutely everything to play for in the final two rounds, both against cellar dwellers whose seasons were well and truly over, yet we failed to crush the Bears, and looked frankly uninterested at the start against the Pies.

The team on the criteria of those two games alone are just mentally soft and lacking in leadership and in pride.  Quite pathetic.

And don't start me on the games v Norf.   .....??????

Jack Watts must go. He is a failed experiment. People say he was "solid" yesterday. Well f&*k "solid". He needed to be outstanding, and the reason he wasn't is because he is an average player who never puts his head over the ball and who looks like he's playing his first nervous game of AFL every time he plays. In his early days I got sick of defending him, then I became sick of keeping my mouth shut about how much he pisses me off. No more. He pisses me off. And he won't get better.

But the biggest issue we have is a very deep, somewhat mysterious but very real and damaging psychology within the club. There is no heart or soul to be found anywhere. When Jim Stynes passed, we lost more than a great footballer and human being. We lost our sense of our history. Tell me who are the past stars of the club who still rally around the players? Garry Lyon is too busy being a media [censored]. David Neitz or David Schwarz? Ever see them around? The list really does go on. So many of the other clubs have benefitted from it's sense of history and worth. But Melbourne to me seems to be a cold and quiet club in this regard. This is just one aspect of a club that perpetually disappoints on the big stages. That makes it's supporters eternally frustrated, nervous,  doubtful and ultimately faithless. To unpack the other reasons why Melbourne are such a mentally weak outfit would take way too long.

I don't say any of this lightly. I have been a supporter all of my 42 years and a member for many, many years now. And today I can honestly say that I've never been more disillusioned by the club and the game in general. I might regret venting like this later, but today the feeling is very real.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
