Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My rage is more inflamed this morning especially about that first quarter. How dare they dish out such a pathetic, insipid effort given what was at stake. There should be some burning ears and sore backsides today. I can't remember demonland and supporters in general being this angry since the days of Neeld. Maybe this will be the lightbulb moment that brings about change.

I'm also still pretty angry. I even dreamt last night about the Adelaide wce game today. How sad is that?

meanwhile the flag out the front is at half mast, my husband lowered it in anticipation of my mood upon returning from the game!

Watching the train wreck unfold with my kids yesterday, the 7-year-old insightfully commented early on, "Daddy, it's unfair, Collingwood have more players on the ground than Melbourne."

What really disappointed me yesterday was our lack of work AND awareness in our defensive transition, that 5 second period immediately after conceding possession to the opposition. We were just poor in this part of the game, especially early.

The Pies continually had a spare man 20-30m ahead of the ball in transition, which then started an inevitable chain of uncontested possessions, as a Dees player, usually defender, left his own man to put pressure on the ball-carrier.

This, together with the general malaise in tackling and pressure, baffling umpiring decisions, bounce of the ball and our players seemingly overawed and anxious, made for a truly [censored] and sickening afternoon.

Go the Crows!!

Not to be glib, nor smarty farty but somewhere much earlier before the game i wrote this ( on another thread ) that this would all be about the first 10 mins ( and that the Filth would bring it )

Why am i not surprised at the result.

Team poorly prepared imho.

As you say. Talk about being MIA. I was wishing hard that the siren could end the first quarter at the 20 minute mark. It was obvious then we were blowing the game and it was lost at quarter time.

What really plssed me off ( though laughed at his gall ) was despite sitting between two inlaws ..both barracking for Pies...i had another text me ( whilst cruising the med ) to thank me for donating to his wine collection. ( Std bet )

Thing was that was just 15 mins into the game lol

Cheeky sod....but they were right.

Not sure if any one watched league teams on Thursday night, but Ben Dixon predicted this would happen and was the only one who tipped the pies. He showed vision of how leaky our defence was against the Lions and said the Pies ball movement will cut through us and our defence will just resemble "Swiss cheese".

Typically, some of the vision was of Max Gawn and how slow he was getting to man up their big men drifting forward.

My question is, how many light bulb moments does one team need?  They can faaark off for mine!  I'm seething with anger at this club.  Another whole pre season and hard work ahead with the usual platitudes to get us members to re- sign.  Stuff them and their lame efforts!

I think we're cooked for this season, and almost want WCE to get up today.

Think I would rather that, than falling over the line and being embarrassed next week.

Hard to disagree.

Might instill true hunger.

Shouldn't fall in like this. What does that teach ?

Don't think I've ever been as nervous about a non-MFC game as I am today. But I think that even if the Crows get up and we make finals, I'll still feel a little hollow.

Our ruck division contribution  has been below average this season. Do we have a plan now that it is to be further weakened by Spencer's likely movement?

Casboult might be handy.

Atrocious first quarter, missed chances in the second and what peeved me most after that was when we got within 8 points 15 minutes into the last we allowed the Pies the next four scoring shots and didn't register a score ourselves until the end.

You would think we had all the momentum at that stage and for no one to step up in the latter part of the game was very disappointing.

T Mac was forward in the second half but how did he end up at full back taking a kick in and hitting Cox lace out?

The coaches have a lot to answer for in terms of the structures yesterday. What the f%#k were they doing all week?

Im just sick of the s**t they keep spinning to us after insipid performances like that.

A club wanting to play finals and contend properly needs more than 5 - 7 players all having high-impact seasons.  Whether it be through form or injury,  that's about the number of players who we've got who played well all season.

A good player will play well in 4 out of 5 games or at least 3 out of 4.  So, it's entirely possible for a club with so few good players to turn in performances such as what we saw yesterday.

Oliver,  Jones,  Hibberd,  T-Mac,  Jetta & maybe Hunt & Lewis have been good this season but those who might have or should have had better seasons haven't performed up to standard for various reasons - Watts,  Salem,  Garlett,  Gawn,  Hogan,  Viney & Tyson)

Injuries are a factor of course but realities are realities.  Our other, younger players are developing so the expectations should be tempered (Petracca,  Brayshaw,  Oscar et al)

And a number of the listed good players that we do have can have off-days on the same day.  That's what happened yesterday.   But there was no excuse for that diabolical first quarter yesterday.  We sat back.

The short answer is that we're just not that good and we need an injection of talent and pace around the ground.  The list is a long way off premiership standard but is still capable of winning 10-12 games.

Stating the obvious? Yes.

But I am told on here we don't have a leaky defence? I am told repeatedly its our naughty midfielders.

The fact that Coll had 7 marks inside 50 during the first quarter and they had tall man grundy and  Cox killing us was oh so predictable given we get smashed by Daniher, ben Brown, Kennedy, Buddy etc.

Our tall backs are terrible.

Really?  Do you really think for one second that success means nothing to this group?  Don't be so ridiculous.

It's fair to analyse where their heads were at from the opening bounce, as we clearly lacked the requisite intensity, but to suggest they don't want success is just plain silly.  Was it down to expectation?  Nerves?  Whatever it was, it needs to be addressed, but what you suggest is totally wrong.

I remember reading on Demonland last year that someone had claimed to have a conversation with one of our players late in the season, and they had said they don't care about making the finals. They felt they had achieved enough out of the season and it wasn't a big deal. IF true, that to me says a lot about the care factor. Finals last year would have been huge for our CLUB. Finals this year would have made a huge impact on our brand and I believe it also adds bargaining power when trying to lure players to the club. And this is all ignoring what it might have actually meant to the individuals who have  continued to show support over many lean years.

At ground level, we didn't want to win as much as Brisbane did in the first half of last week. You could see at the start of the 3rd our intensity was markedly higher. How the actual F can that happen 2 weeks in a row when in a position of opportunity like we were? Would that happen at many other clubs?

Last year, the shoe was on the other foot in that we entered the last round with nothing to play for. And yep, we rolled over for a tidy triple figure flogging...

Whether we like it or not, clubs like Collingwood hold higher expectations of their playing group then the MFC do...

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
