Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This hurts as much as 1976

Totally agree on 1976 ... I'm still annoyed we missed the finals in that year - also because after that season we went back to being a basket-case for the rest of the 70's and into the 80's.

'87 was joyous in comparison.  I don't know why anyone would think otherwise ... we kept winning against the odds before finally being beaten by the Hawks.  And against all odds we made it to the GF in the following season (1988)

I'd like to think that this team will bounce back this time around ... we do have to improve our list though.  Another couple of key backs are needed if T-Mac plays forward (and he should) We also need another KPF or 2.  Hogan is injury prone and there's no one else.

We've got enough midfielders to work with but we've got too many medium-sized players who don't offer enough.

This time last year we were miles off what we are today.
Everyone knows we are a force of the future.
Yes it sucks, but just time to move on and this will only add to the sweetness when success comes.

Happy to show you disloyal [censored] out the door too.

Instead of acting like a petulant child, look at where we've come from and vision the trajectory upwards. We are a couple of good players away from being a finals side. Goodwin will burn this lesson into them over the preseason.

And we say this every year!

Perhaps it's a good year to finish ninth as AFL have a preference for a GWS flag

Next year we remind them of our supplicant approach over the past few years and indicate that we may be forced to follow other clubs and do whatever it takes including taking a more rigorous approach to list management, result manipulation and scientific analysis of chemically enhanced performance and a less stringent approach to record keeping. Oh and we might introduce an umpires academy where outstanding performance is recognised with the rewarding of significant financial assistance.

Except GWS wont win this year as they don't play as a team.

That won't worry the AFL. They need to have all the individuals recognised as winners in Sydney

The AFL will be creaming themselves right now. Essendon, Richmond, West Coast, both NSW clubs (ie. the AFL's two pets on a permanent dripfeed of concessions) and both SA clubs in the finals? It's a wet dream for Gil and his end of year bonus.

Can't wait to see how they manipulate next year's fixture to get Collingwood back in the 8. They finished bottom 6 so I thoroughly expect every concession under the sun.

Agreed. Maybe Goodwin needs to get tougher over summer. Will be interesting to see if Watts and a few others are offered up.

Fair enough being soft for year one. He spent two years under Roosy playing good cop, no issues keeping that facade going another year.

But christ there comes a point when the coach needs to let rip. Our players dumped an almighty excrement all over our club yesterday and if Goodwin has any pride (which I suspect he has in spades) he will not tolerate such behavior for long.

This is the worst feeling I think I may have ever felt. And now I must feel this way for 7 months until we get another shot. Absolutely gut wrenching. If the players feel as heartbroken as the fans we will be better for it. It better drive this group to achieve bigger and better things next year

I've read this sentiment all year.

  • We still came out and lost to Hawthorn after losing to Fremantle.
  • Lost to North Melbourne the week after beating Adelaide in Adelaide.
  • Lost 4 of our next 6 after beating West Coast at Subiaco.
  • Lost again to North Melbourne with our season on the line (and ultimately cost ourselves finals).
  • We fell over the line against perennial losers Collingwood (4 pts), Carlton (8 pts) and Brisbane (13 pts) which most other teams put to the sword. All 3 teams finished in the bottom 6.
  • We regularly lost first quarters by enormous margins and we regularly conceded goals in the dying seconds of quarters after switching off; we missed making finals by under 2 goals

Like a broken record, nothing seems to change. Why will the MFC's latest disaster be any different? Because it's even more gut-wrenching than the countless other fuckups?

Being as sober as possible amid the pain - we tried but we weren't good enough this year.

We had a "we're pretty good now, aren't we?" sort of season. Next year we need a "Get out of our way!" season.

Never once tossed a team aside this year and it ultimately was that which cost us.

No place for old sentiment now, (oh poor Trengove, poor Watts) - it's all purged - with this collective pain. Next year Goodwin needs to make these Dees ruthless winners. And we need to stick by them.

Its just so true

I have challenged  my fellow supporters regarding next season

No body can tell me what is going to change to make this club mentally tougher, ruthless and  winners

All claptrap words and wishes are worthless

We are still making the same  mistakes and exhibiting the mental weakness that we have done over the last 11 years

So excuse me I will wait and see

Off topic perhaps but one of my grandson's basketball teams is playing in the final round of the season.

If they win, they play in the finals next week. If they lose they will be relying on one of the top sides to beat off their challenger.

Does this scenario sound familiar to anyone, is there anything to worry about and should they be sending off the notices about the finals series yet?

Dig a little deeper and you realize how big a failure this season has been.

So many opportunitieswere presented to us and were not taken.

The 1st Quarter disasters are top of the list for me.

Who is preparing the team before game time? It failed time and time again.

Conceeding goals in time on periods happened repeatedly through out the season. Mentally switching off...Why did it happen again and again, once should be enough.

So much work is still needed before this club can be respected by anyone.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
