Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Exactly.

Not only is he the best player traded, he is also the one with the highest ceiling at 21 and doesn't come with a bag of personal off field issues!

I'm confident we will get back into the 1st round of the draft next year, if we strongly believe we need to.

Imagine how North fans (sorry, fan), must feel.

Yep, when Hogan goes to the Dockers we will get back in the first round.

The premiership team has got 3 picks inside our first pick, the Eagles have 5 picks in the first 2 rounds, 2016 years premiers have 2 first round picks and paid peanuts for a pick 2.

We have zero midfield depth, we are banking on a key defender becoming a key forward and a young forward who can't get a kick to improve out of sight also hoping Pederson can play at the same level.  Don't believe the hype we are a mile off

Well that was a waste of two weeks.  Have we improved our list, not sure Lever is a good player but we lose Watts and 2 first round picks, mid second round picks are hit and miss so I'm not overly excited by having 3 this year.  C- for the trade period, A+ for the girls we picked up in the draft, they are actually the type of players our mens side need, couple of forward/Ruck options and some real speed

Interesting we got the best kid in the trade period according to all the experts and another possible good player for 66 and you think we failed. We see it very differently.

I hate this “weak draft” crap.  Do the young fellas in the draft perceive themselves as being “weak”?  They wouldn’t be in the draft at all if they didn’t have footballing talent.  What they and the clubs that draft them do to make the most of that talent is what counts.

I couldn't give a rat's toss bag who gets or doesn't get the credit.

Simpletons worry about the applause.  I'm interested in the result.

Disappointing we weren't able to upgrade some of those 2nd round picks. Multiple clubs have done picks swaps near the end here. Tigers traded pick 15 down to Brisbane for similar 2nd round picks. That should've been our trade right there. Could've gone to draft with a first rounder or passed on the first rounder for a decent player or prospect such as Schache. As it stands we hold multiple second round picks in a weak draft. Not much chance any of the players we pick there will make it.

Disappointing result all up, but good to land Lever.

Maybe the players that Taylor has targeted will still be around in the 2nd round, so we didn't feel the need to upgrade.  Maybe there were no "decent" players that we wanted to target.  Maybe the club doesn't rate Schache as a "prospect".

In a so-called weak draft, we've used our first pick on Lever.  And while we gave up our first rounder next year too, the 2018 draft order hasn't been finalised, and the 2018 trade week is yet to commence.  I don't think we can judge this Lever deal until then, but at this stage it's a clear win for us.

You need to look at what we lose, agree Lever will strengthen our back line, doesn't address O Mac is a mile off, Frost is hit and miss and T Mac is needed up forward.  Our mids are one dimensional with no speed and we lose one of two players that I would consider elite kicks in our side.  I'm sure Hogan will love T Mac kicking the ball to him he is one of the worst field kicks in the AFL, great set shot but cant hit a target.

So tell me how does this trade period improve our list

Very much so, may be this is a flow on from the last 5 games and a club that had covered winning a premiership.  Just don't think we have addressed what we need

sorry BBB but that is surely one of the dumbest things Ive read on this thread. You have NO idea what would have gone on behind the scenes and the work put in , over probably a couple of years , by  many, to get lever to "fall in our laps" . So much negativity about what we paid,  that we did it too quickly that Mahoney is a fool and the club doesnt have any balls. FFS...we just signed one of the up and coming guns of the comp and one of the most important signings we've made for YEARS. . If you think that happens all by itself your living in a cloud.

i just had unrealistic expectations, that much like  last years trade period, and fifa on my xbox, we would jettison ALL deadwood and through rorting various systems - we would have landed 5 guns....ps...what ever happened to the jet midfielder from another vic club...hope @Siren can fill us in on said individual....

Would any other club desired Lever?

Where did he land?

We obtained the best player we could have, ahead of all others .

Completely naive to suggest Lever did all the work

You just mentioned it. Lever will improve our list. JW was an elite kick but so was Strauss. Jack failed on all other KPI's. Tell me what mids were available. Sam Gibson was the only one and he's 31. The club achieved what they set out to do this trade period and got it done early. We don't muck around.

It's a good point you make.  Numerous clubs wanted Lever, but he was obviously impressed by his meetings with the MFC.

Interesting that Cameron wanted to go to Brisbane and is IN contract and Brisbane offer pic19 which the cows said no then at the last min Brisbane up it’s offer to pic 12 and the deal is done.

Lever is OOC and we offer a first and second rounder and the cows say no then instead of waiting we offer two first rounders just to get the deal done and to work on other deals which was only Balic as it turns out.

Not that great in negotiating imo

We got the two players we wanted agree but I reckon what we had to spend to get them and what we got in return for Watts was a fail.  I hoped to be proven wrong but unless Petracca turns into a star next year we will get more of the same

If we make a rise up the ladder then next years first rounder will look close to second rounder anyway.

You are splitting hairs over nothing.  We've got Lever so I'm stoked.

So, are you saying that you should make a lower offer initially, then if the seller refuses, then you have to increase your 2nd offer?

That's what Brisbane did.  That's what we did.

I'm certain the negative posters are now starting to take the pi$$ on this matter now.  Can be the only explanation.

There were far worse deals out there than anything we did.

The Crows gave up two first rounders for a bloke who is 29 at the start of next season.

GC, trying to emulate the Freo of the 90's, coughed up Pick 2 for a bloke who clearly isn't worth it.

The Pies passed on a future second rounder for Sam Murray, a bloke taken late in the rookie draft and hasn't played a game of AFL footy.

Not to mention the Lions coughing up Pick 12 for Charlie Cameron and also needed an exchange of picks to get a bloke who is coming out of retirement.

So before you pot the club and the deals we did, put everything in perspective and realise we did exactly what we wanted to do and did it with minimal fuss.  We also still have 3 picks in the second round this year for Taylor and co. to work more of their magic.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
