Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Freo rep (missed his name, maybe a player manager haha will confirm) saying ballic deal will get done in next 12 -24 hrs for a late pick.

JW deal holding things up

ok... but if that were true you would still expect the number of trades to remain relatively constant across the board in the sense that at any one time there will always be teams at the various evolutionary points.

Still does not really explain the absence of trades this year. Also if you accept that this year is a "shallow" draft you would expect a higher number of trades as teams try to compensate for the lack of talent in the second round etc

I think that's a different point to what you seemed to be making.

However, to answer this point, it may just be the evolution of FA and with the increase in the CBA, players may be happier to stay at their current club. Hence, less trades and movement.

I had thought this too, but I'm not sure the deals are connected and unless we're asking Watts' suitors for two picks (in order to give a later pick to Freo for Balic), Watts' deal shouldn't factor into the hold up.

I think it's more likely that whatever else is brewing is holding up the Balic deal.

In fairness to watts bain said the dees were waiting to see what later picks they had for Ballic.

But expects Ballic to be a Demon within 24hrs

I think some folk need to understand and distinguish between the idea that the JW trade might be delaying things...and JW delaying things.

Its now at that silly stage of dominoes. A lot of clubs Actually on pretty much same page...just different corners. Not expecting much before about 10 tomorrow now....unless a 'balancing' trade falters...or signed off in next 2-3 hours. ( And that's not JW btw )

Fun isn't it lol

some much older lists needing to get some kiddies in..some lists struggling as past picks unable to muster the coin needed to make the trades worth.

A few chooks coming home to roost.  Combine that with some clubs better at trading than others...some clubs trade..some really dont ( much ).

There's , as usual ,  one or three trades holding up everything also.

it's a marketplace...some days better than others

True. Some other reasons perhaps:

Trading future round picks makes things a little quieter the next year. Destination clubs like Hawt and Geel did that last year.

Collingwood are normally busy also but are rethinking their mature recruiting strategy after White, Lynch, Mayne, Wells etc.

20% increase in salary means that players are perhaps more content and extra coin from other clubs is a little less important now.

Fewer decent free agents on the market and big guns like Martin and Kelly signing before hand.

contrary to the collective wisdom on the Jake Lever where the "experts" kept telling everyone that a player beats a speculative draft pick any day of the week.

Only so many Jack Levers !! etc

The wisdom of trading for talentv(known ) as against speculative drafting is surely dependent on your needs, available players, and ability to get them.

The proverb...bird in hand etc often holds up.

There are not that many highly rated academy or father son players so less of pick rorting trades.

Of course,

In 2016 Richmond were the clear overall w'winners' of the trade period, picking up three players who all made important contributions to their premiership run. Runner-up, despite limited activity, must be Melbourne who secured the best player of the trade period, for a late 20s pick. And Jordan Lewis for nothing much.

At this point, we've also got the best player available in the 2017 trade period.

As for the 'value for picks' debate on Lever, we'll never know really, but it is worth considering that of all the picks in the second half of round 1 of any draft in the last five years, the best players are:

Patrick Cripps, Isaac Heeney (Acad), Jake Lever, and, um, Brodie Grundy?

I guess the question is, would you give up two picks in a given range of the draft, if it guaranteed you the best player available in that range?

In fact, it is not even every year that a player of Lever's quality appears in the late first round of the draft.

I'm feeling much more comfortable about the trade now.

It's no wonder as to why the Victorian Government have chosen this week to vote on the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia.

Pick upgrade a definite possibility.

We have 29, Port gives us 31 for Watts...

Points equivalent to pick 13, so no benefit for dealing with WestCoast.

Richmond to use points on Naish, would probably give up 15 for the 2. They also have 17.

Surely this is what we've been working on since the Lever trade...

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
