Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

says who?

Says me. They are clearly the 2 best talents in this years draft, and aside from the King twins and Rankine from SA, i'd consider Rayner and Davies-Uniacke comparable with the others being bandied about as other potential top 5/10 picks for next year.

But as is well known, the draft is a lottery, the chance of the #1 pick in this years draft or next years draft becoming the best player from their respective drafts is not that great.

Mahoney pretty well eliminating any chance of us trading for another player if I read him correctly, putting to bed any rumours that we are after someone else besides Balic who we knew of.

That is clearly what he said....... but is it a ruse?

Pretty sure he said similar last year after we got Hibberd then up bobbed Lewis...

Not trying to upgrade our pics. Going on what he said we r after Balic and that’s it.

He did mention that the Lever deal was fair for both parties. That I’m not too sure about. To me it just seemed they wanted the Lever deal done ASAP cause we wanted him.

Imo this may be why we gave the cows two fist rounders rather than wait it out.

I heard it differently. When asked about if we'd be involved in more deals the interviewer completed the question by asking if JKH would be on the trade table. This skewed Mahoney's answer but definitely he didn't rule out future involvement this year. If Watts goes soon we'll be into it up to our ears!

I agree, although this year it wouldn't surprise me if Watts and Balic are our last bits of business.  I'd love something else to pop up, but I'd be happy to stick with what we have and go to the draft this time around.

I think Watts will get done tomorrow for pick 29 from Port.

I also think we package up some picks to get lower down the draft order

I'll be interested to see if that's enough, as Mahoney has stated we want an early second rounder, and I don't see that one as early.  Maybe Watts and a 4th round pick for Picks 29 and 33?  Wishful thinking probably, but I don't see us folding for Pick 29 on it's own.

why would we get rid of watts, only to pick up Schache who reportedly has competitive and resilience issues himself. No thanks!

Because Schache has had two years in the system interstate and Watts has been playing in his home town for 9 years. I'm intrigued by the apparent lack of interest in Schache.

We have apparently said we would take 29 for Watts.

Any update now the Lever deal has cost next year's first rounder. Is it still alive.

Because he is 20, 199cms, 96 kgs and was a number 2 draft pick who clearly has talent. Now playing in his home state with good support he has the chance to be a very good footballer. I would love it if that was with us.

Red, you don't have any concerns as to the veracity of the above post?

I'd be quietly backing out the door, while avoiding eye contact if I was doing the interview. Then pretending it never happened.

Unless I'm mistaken this is how it stands at the moment post Lever trade.

Three spots left on primary list: 28, 35, 46 (65,  83 pending further list changes)

Bring Balic in and we only have two however trading Watts out opens it up again.

Say Balic gets traded for 46 and Watts leaves for 30.

We go to the draft with 28, 30, 35. Can't help but feel we'll package those up for an earlier pick. We've said in the past we were done before pulling out a trade that no one was expecting so I'll be watching this space.

28, 30, 35 = 1828 points or the "afl equivalent" of between pick 5 and 6. Considering the supposed weakness of the draft I don't see any teams parting with a top 10 pick for that combo.

Looking at the draft order it's hard trying to see where a good package would come from in a direct swap that isn't somewhat lopsided, but perhaps something like Brisbane's 18 & 42 could work. Guess it all depends on how Taylor views this draft depth or if he has a target in mind that we need to trade up for.

Fremantle had their offer of next years 2nd rounder for Wilson knocked back by GWS.

Personally reckon that should have gotten the deal done, but think Freo now want our pick 28 for Balic to get the Wilson deal done.

Wonder if we can bundle up some picks for Balic and Freo's future 2nd?

If we take two 2nd round picks into 2018 we might be able to (next year) target a club with decent academy players or father sons coming through to get back in the 1st round.

Ugh. That would suck. Balic isn't worth anything like a second rounder.

If true there could be many reasons for emotion.

I don't think it means he couldn't be a good player.

We actually want our players to play with emotion, but yes I know, not cry.

I believe Plugger cried a bit when the pig was released on the ground and then he smashed a Swan players jaw and I think kicked 8.

All the clubs obviously know of this situation with Josh and maybe he was just letting it out, but clearly it has put most clubs off him and dropped his price considerably. For a cheap price I would take him. If he fails he fails. It's not like every selection in the draft  we have taken succeeds. However if he were to succeed it would be a brilliant get.

Not in a straight swap, he isn't.

Just think we might be able to use Freo's desperation to get a bit more out of the deal.

Thanks Red

Not sure if a fragile mind would cope with Jack Vineys temperament. My worry is that he is another of those hulking blokes who never realise just how big and dangerous they could be. A Paul Johnson type maybe?

Latish pick, yeah, why not, but anything where Taylor thinks he can pluck a special, and I would say no thanks.

Ah I see. Yeah.

Feels to me like any of those other Fitzpatrick/McKenna type deals where a club doesn't really want a guy too much, the guy wants out, the club knows they don't have any bargaining power since the kid hasn't done anything. Make it happen for a regulation swap of late picks.

I don't want to be a negative nancy... but I had high hopes for guys like Kennedy. Balic comes with even less to recommend him. Seems a lot to me like it's list clogger. But I spose the club might think he's better than whoever is available at pick 60ish.

In this draft, there's a very good chance he'll be better than most available at pick 23ish.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
